Man, it has been positively stupendous (I'm beginning to run out of good adjectives) weather today! The high temperature in Chico was a pleasant 69 degrees (which is only a couple of degrees above average) under wall-to-wall sunshine. Other than a few puffy clouds over the Sierra Nevada and the Coast Ranges, it was nothing but blue skies. The icing on the cake are the beautiful golds, oranges and reds of the fall colors, which are at their peak right now. This is, to me, perfect fall weather. It will be getting cold tonight as high pressure settles in. There is a frost advisory out from 3am until 9am tomorrow morning for the central and southern Sacramento Valley. Temperatures outside of urban areas could dip to the upper 20s overnight tonight, so cover up the tender vegetation. There is another weak disturbance that is expected to move through around early to mid-week next week. The rest of this weekend looks gorgeous! Here is the fantabulous (see, I told you I was running out of good adjectives) forecast for Chico from the NWS:
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 37. North northwest wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 66. North northwest wind between 8 and 10 mph.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. North northeast wind between 5 and 7 mph.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. South southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm.
Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.
Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
Veterans Day: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.
Wednesday Night: A slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.
Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 63.

It has been rather overcast today, but Chico has not seen a drop of rain so far with this system. Most of the light rain showers have occurred in the foothills east of town. I guess there's just enough moisture and instability at slightly higher elevations to produce showers, whereas lower elevations (such as Chico) there isn't. Temperatures have been cool, mainly in the 60s. I tell you what, the fall colors in Chico are truly spectacular! In my humble opinion, they...

It looks like this weather system moving in over the next 24-36 hours won't be very potent (at least here in Northern California), but it will bring significantly cooler temperatures. Temps will be 10-20 degrees cooler the next few days as compared to the last few days. For example, yesterday's high temp in Chico was 81 degrees; by Saturday, the high is expected to be 62. Temps will moderate some by early next week, along with a chance for more showers as another we...

It looks like it. A low pressure system will move into Northern California from the Pacific on Thursday, bringing clouds, showers and cooler weather. This low will persist through Saturday, bringing possibly a half an inch of rain to Chico. The snow level will initially be high- 6000-7000 feet- but will lower by late Friday as cooler air moves in. We may be able to salvage some good weather for the second half of the weekend, though. It will remain at or below norma...

Wow, was today beautiful, or what? My hubby and I went to Pug Sunday (a gathering of pugs and their pet guardians at Hooker Oak in Bidwell Park), and the sun was shining, there was a light northerly breeze, and temps were right around 80 degrees. The fall colors were especially splendid today, and they're reaching peak intensity. It was a perfect day to be outdoors, that's for sure. And this weather trend will continue through this upcoming work week as temps stay i...
