The vegetation was quite thick and as you can see, we were immersed in mist and a drizzling rain, pretty much a typical day in a Puerto Rican rain forest in January.

Buried deep in the western mountains of Puerto Rico is a beautiful waterfall called Salto Curet. It is actually a series of falls culminating in a final fall of 50 feet to the deep pool below. The water is frigid, not what you expect in Puerto Rico

Summer in a sense is eternal in Puerto Rico. Fall in the Caribbean does not bring changing leaves and cold weather. Rather, rains and beautiful sunsets. This sunset lights up the western sea (Mona Passage) just off the island as rain falls near Desecheo island, an uninhabited island twelve miles off the coast of the mainland.

The Coqui belongs to a family of tree frogs that consists of 16 different native species, 11 of those are endemic species, THEY ONLY OCCUR IN PUERTO RICO!
Here in the Island we love to listen to the Coqui sing at bedtime, and its melody is dearly missed by the Puerto Ricans that are away from
home. The name "Coqui" comes from the song that the male sings, what is seems to say is: "Ko-kee ... Ko-kee".

Along the horizon you can see Isla Desecheo, which is about 12 miles off the northwestern coast of Puerto Rico. In days past it served as a bombing range for the US military. Setting foot on the island is prohibited, as unexploded ordinance is still present. The island itself is home to goats and monkeys, and a massive seabird colony. Along the same lines, the marine life around the island is some of the richest you will find anywhere. Visibility of 150+ feet is common, while an extensive coral reef ecosystem thrives in the warm Caribbean waters. As if the reefs did not provide enough diversity, the island is the migratory home to humpback whales during the winter months.
The foreground is one of my favorite and least-known surf spots on the island. The winter swells = deep barrels at this reef break!
Afternoon heating of the land on Vieques island created this curved band of convection that perfectly followed the curve of the coastline. The photo was taken from Blue Beach on the south shore of Vieques. This beach was probably the most beautiful beach I've ever visited, and was virtually deserted. The snorkeling was very good, and our inflatable kayak let us make journeys out to several small islands in the bay and snokle and explore there.
Gringo Beach on the north shore of Vieques is another of the many spectacular beaches found on the island.

It's beauty and majestic charms continue to stand in the South east coast of the Island. Very well preserve because of his history and location.
Moro's wall stand at approximately forty feet high and two and a half feet wide, as a fortres it have what is call a garita "observatory post" to look out for intruders and incoming friendly ships. Because of its importance, and location it has been use and preserve as a historical sites, next to it we can also find The house of Juan Ponce the Leon.

This place is famous in the eastern-central area of the Island. Great place to get away from the summer heat, but too 'cold' for us locals during this time of the year. Usually 60's during the day and 50's at night.

Sun Bay Beach in the beautiful Island of Vieques, Puerto Rico...
This beach is my favorite on the island of Puerto Rico. It is not too good for swimming but surfers and fishermen frequent the place. I love it for its unsurpassable beauty.

The lighthouse in Cabo Rojo Puerto Rico is one of the prettiest places to see. A beautiful white sandy beach rests at the foot of the cliff. From that beach one can walk over to another wide bay called, Bahia Sucia. We sat our cooler down on that path.

La Mona is a nature reserve 50 miles west of Puerto Rico. Its waters are pristine, some of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. Below the divers the wall plumets 250 feet to the ocean floor. After that it tumbles into the abyss.

A Gecko in A Papaya Tree, Caguas, Puerto Rico (

This little guy just poked his head up as I took the photo. The leaves were wet from one of those wonderful, early-morning, tropical Puerto Rico showers. The papaya tree is in Abuela Ramirez's backyard.
Dusk at the city of San Juan.
I recently moved from a town on the central mountains of Puerto Rico to the city of San Juan, and even though I miss the cool nights and foggy mornings of the mountains, this city has its own charms that are changing my way of thinking about it ;)
Puerto Rico's "Costa Dorada" (
Juancho)
After several days of rather hazy weather a rain storm cleaned the air and left this beautiful sunset. It was truly spectacular even for the western "Gold Coast" of Puerto Rico.
