Weather Underground & Weather Station Updates Temporarily Unavailable

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 3:23 AM GMT on March 27, 2014

Once again, technicians at the Marvinville Weather Thingy Research Institute's Weather Station have turned off data updates to allow testing of the weewx processes used to log and process weather station data for memory leakage. This information will be provided to the developer of weewx in the hope that memory leakage issues with weewx 2.6.2 can be rooted out.

We will be tracking weewx's StdReport memory usage for at least 24 hours. New station data will be unavailable during that time. The station data should be back online approximately 8pm PDT on March 27. Thanks again for your patience as we run down some software bugs.

Weather Underground & Weather Station Updates Temporarily Unavailable

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 9:31 PM GMT on March 26, 2014

Weather updates to the Marvinville Weather Thingy Research Institute's Weather Underground and Weather Station data pages are currently unavailable. Technicians at the research institute have turned off updates to allow for testing memory leakage of the weewx processes used to log and process weather station data.

We expect to log weewx's memory usage for about two hours. The station should be back online sometime between 4:30pm and 530pm PDT. Thanks for your patience as we run down some software bugs.

Continuing Data Outages #2

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 8:02 AM GMT on March 05, 2014

After further research it appears that the Weather Thingy's "ISS" (Integrated Sensor Suite) unit uses a non-rechargeable 3 volt lithium battery that needs to be replaced. This will be accomplished when conditions permit. Yes, another trip up the ladder. Until then there will be outdoor sensor data interruption during non-daylight hours.

Continuing Data Outages

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 7:25 AM GMT on March 04, 2014

This is follow-up to the previous announcement. The Marvinville Weather Thingy Research Institute's weather thingy will exhibit data outages from the exterior data sensors until the unit's photovoltaic cells have fully charged the unit's rechargeable battery pack.

Today's Data Outage - 20140303 05:08PST - 13:53PST

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 6:21 AM GMT on March 04, 2014

The Marvinville Weather Thingy Research Institute has resumed normal operations following a service outage starting at 5:03am PDT and ending at 1:53pm PDT. The outage was the result of >35mph winds that rotated the weather station on its support pole. This caused the station's photovoltaic cells to face northward, depriving it of the solar radiation needed to power the sensors, aspirator and transmitter unit. Lacking this power the unit was unable to process weather data or communicate to the weather console, hence the data outage.

At 1:30pm the MWTRI's senior support technician repositioned and properly secured the weather station. Solar power has been restored and data is now being received and logged. Lessons learned: Tighten weather station U-bolt attachments properly or risk an unplanned trip up a ladder.
