It's A Beautiful Day In Marvinville

Investigating Alternate Weather Station Software Options

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 7:09 PM GMT on July 30, 2013

The Marvinville Weather Thingy Research Institute has begun investigating alternate weather software options for collecting, processing, and communicating weather data generated by the Weather Thingy. The current software is very CPU intensive and somewhat unreliable, occasionally hanging unpredictably. This is simply unacceptable.

Marvin is looking for a replacement that is more robust and reliable and will update this blog with his progress on finding and implementing a solution. Science!

Data Problems Resolved

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 3:20 AM GMT on July 24, 2013

The data problems have been resolved. A silvery tarp had been placed on the roof to shield the room beneath from radiant energy. But the tarp was also effective as a radio frequency absorber/shield between the weather station's RF transmitter and the weather station console's antenna. The tarp blocked the signal, preventing the console from receiving the data. The tarp was removed just after 19:00PDT and the weather station data can now be seen in the charts.

Solar & UV Radiation Measurements

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 4:20 AM GMT on July 23, 2013

As a follow up to yesterday's post: the current visible solar and UV radiation measurements are clearly not accurate. There appears to be data updating problems that need to be sorted out. All other measurements seem to be fine. I will work to get the visible/UV issues resolved as soon as possible.

Alert: System Changes Performed 16:30-19:30PDT

By: ItsABeautifulDay, 2:45 AM GMT on July 22, 2013

The solar radiation and UV index data should now be free of the antenna shading I noted in an earlier blog post. The antenna that was shading the weather station has been removed and the anemometer arm was repositioned this afternoon. The weather station was then recalibrated to reflect the correct wind direction for the new arm position.

Disregard today's recorded wind direction data between 16:30 and 19:30 Pacific Daylight Time. The wind direction data recorded after 19:30 should be accurate.
