The average temperature at the Kansas City International Airport was 74.0 degrees which was 2.6 degrees below normal. This is the 13th coolest August on record.

The average high temperature was 83.5 degrees or 3.6 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 64.5 degrees which was 1.6 degrees below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 97 degrees on the 8th. The lowest temperature was 51 degrees on the 30th. The low on the 2nd of 57 degrees tied the record for that date.

Precipitation came in at 8.51 inches for the month or 4.97 inches above normal. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 3.38 inches on the 16th through 17th. August 2009 has now become the 6th wettest August on record in Kansas City since 1888.

At Saint Joseph the average temperature was 73.1 degrees which was 2.8 degrees below normal. This is the 5th coolest on record. The average high was 83.4 degrees which was 4.5 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was 62.9 degrees which was 0.9 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was 96 degrees on the 8th. The lowest temperature was 47 degrees on the 30th. The low on the 2nd of 55 degrees tied the record for that date.

Precipitation at Saint Joseph was 5.83 inches or 2.03 inches above normal. This was the 20th wettest on record. The greatest total in a 24 hour period was 1.58 inches on the 16th through 17th.
