Hurricane Sandy

I had heard about tropical storm Sandy, and how there is a 5% chance of it effecting the northeast that night on the news, so I checked ensembles, this is what I saw.

I checked back the next morning, knowing that it was extremely unlikely any more models would latch on to the idea, and that the models that showed it had probably dropped it. But, it was the opposite.

I, not knowing much at the time, checked the NHC cone, and found that it did not direct a northeast hit, and was immediately bummed.

I gave up and decided I would stop tracking it. (again I was clueless then.)
The next day, I couldn't help put tracking it, and found this.

I almost died. Really.

So I immediately began preparing for Sandy, raking all the leaves out of the gutters, I mean that pretty much it, but those couple of day coming up to the storm, I didn't do anything but follow Sandy.

Then, the day came. I remember it vividly. Dark skies, breezy, but nothing horrible. It was like that all day, and a began losing hope. Are yard is full of trees so we slept downstairs that night. 7:00, still nothing. Then at 7:30, all hell broke lose. Winds up to 70 mph, heavy rains, and even some thunder and lightning. Here's the ironic part though. The power didn't go of, and even though the winds were so high and the rains so heavy, it didn't cause much damage.

Now, New Jersey was another story, and seeing the pictures coming in of the devastation, I felt lucky that the worst had spared us.

Sandy was a life changing experience for me, it's what got me intrigued with weather, and I think it's the reason I'm here today.

This is still a work in progress, but on the 29th, I am going to host some kind of event about Sandy on this blog. More info later.

Good thing we didn't get another storm in the northeast this year! It would have had catastrophic outcomes, even if it was weak! anyone agree?
