Coming next Tuesday, the announcement of one of the biggest changes to my Weather Updates since I started writing them over seven years ago.

Todays forecast grade: C

Wisconsin Forecast:
Now: At 9am with clouds northeast and sunshine with a few sparse clouds across the rest of the state, temps are in the mid- teens north, lower 20s central and mid- 20s south. Yeah, it's almost 10am and the update is just getting sent now - thanks to working for a Lutheran organization, I get Good Friday off and Bryce actually let me sleep in for once.

Synopsis: That lingering low pressure system in New England moved further east, but as a secondary low gets cut off from the main system, moisture will begin to rewrap back into Wisconsin from northeast to southwest. The sunshine most of us are getting this morning will probably be replaced by more clouds and perhaps some flurries later today.

Today: Morning sunshine, then increasing clouds from the opposite direction compared to normal (northeast to southwest). Windy and cold, highs lower 20s north, 30 central, and low to mid- 30s south.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with snow showers or flurries. Lows near 10 above north, mid- to upper teens central and south. Chance of snow 50%.

Saturday: Cloudy and breezy with light snow showers or flurries. Highs mid- 20s north, lower 30s central, and mid- 30s south. Chance of snow 50%.

Easter Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a 95% chance of eating multi-colored hard-boiled eggs, highs lower 30s north, upper 30s central, and near 40 south.

Next Week:
Monday: Morning sunshine with increasing clouds and a chance of rain or snow late. Highs 38-43. Chance of precip Monday night 30%.
Tuesday: Windy with rain and/or snow. Does winter have one last snowstorm left in it? This system's worth keeping an eye on. Highs 40-45. Chance of precip 60%.
Wednesday: Morning snow showers, highs 41-46.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly sunny, highs upper 80s today and tomorrow. Isolated thunderstorms and upper 70s on Sunday. Hope you got home safely today!
... Record high minimum temperature set in Las Vegas today...
The low temperature at McCarran International Airport here in Las
Vegas only got down to 65 degrees. This reading broke the previous
record high minimum... or warmest low temperature... of 63 degrees
established in 1972.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Partly cloudy through the weekend, highs upper 50s to lower 60s.

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Partly cloudy today, breezy with rain Saturday and Sunday morning, highs near 70 today and only mid- 50s this weekend.
... A wet and unseasonably cold weekend expected...

Unseasonably cold temperatures and periods of rain will affect
southeast Texas this weekend. A cold Canadian high pressure system
will sink south and settle over the Southern Plains. A surface low
pressure system will develop near Brownsville. The pressure
gradient between these two systems will be rather tight and wind
speeds will increase... especially near the coast.

Currently... there appears to be two distinct rainy periods. The
first rain event will start early Saturday as an upper level
disturbance pushes east across the state. Rain with this first
system will average between a quarter and three-quarters of an
inch. The second rain event will develop Saturday night as the
surface low over the western Gulf begins to move northeast and
another upper level disturbance moves into the area from the west.
Another inch of rain could fall with the second system with the
heavier amounts focused along the coast. The rain should end by
Sunday afternoon. Total rainfall accumulations for the weekend will
average 1 to 2 inches with isolated totals between 3 and 4 inches

Although the calendar says it is April... there is some potential
for some wintry precipitation late Saturday afternoon and Saturday
night. Areas north of a Caldwell to Livingston line could receive
a cold rain... rain mixed with sleet... rain mixed with snow or any
combination of the above. At this time... vertical thermal profiles
of the atmosphere favor a combination of rain and sleet. The best
chance for mixed precipitation will occur between 3 PM Saturday
afternoon and 3 am Sunday morning.

Temperature records will likely be established over the weekend.
Below are the current temperature records for April 7th and 8th
and the forecast values for these dates.

Hard freeze warning in effect from 11 PM this evening to 10 am CDT Saturday...
Hard freeze watch in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning...
The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a hard freeze
warning... which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 10 am CDT
Saturday. A hard freeze watch has also been issued and is in
effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning. A freeze
warning remains in effect until 9 am CDT this morning.

Large Canadian high pressure will continue to draw unseasonably
cold air into the region over the next few days. Low temperatures
tonight are forecast to range from the low to mid 20s across the

Low temperatures Sunday morning will be even a bit colder... with
all areas forecast to drop into the lower 20s.

Sub freezing temperatures at night can kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation. Potted plants normally left outdoors should
be covered or brought inside away from the cold.

A hard freeze warning means temperatures are imminent or highly
likely to drop to less than or equal to 26 degrees. These
conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or
highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation.

A hard freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are forecast
to drop to less than or equal to 26 degrees. These conditions
could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

DULUTH, Minnesota (AP) -- Lake Superior has been warming even faster than the climate around it since the late 1970s because of reduced ice cover, according to a study by professors at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Summer surface temperatures on the famously cold lake have increased about 4.5 degrees since 1979, compared with about a 2.7-degree increase in the region's annual average air temperature, the researchers found. The lake's "summer season" is now beginning about two weeks earlier than it did 27 years ago.
