Wisconsin Weather Update

Wisconsin Weather Update for February 25, 2013.
Posted by: HaleStorm, 1:42 PM GMT on February 25, 2013 +0
Clouds today, snow later tomorrow (heavier south).
We’ve got one major weather system we’re going to have to deal with this week. Another panhandle-hook-type low pressure system is going to develop today across Oklahoma, northern Texas and Arkansas, soak up a bunch of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, then shoot north-northeastward via the jet stream. The storm track is looking like south-central and southeastern Wisconsin are going to get the heavier amounts compared to the rest of the state, and a Winter Storm Watch has already been issued for those areas starting tomorrow afternoon. Some areas could see 4-6” by Wednesday, although for those of us in the Fox Valley, we’re more looking at a 1-3” snowfall range. Although 4” did close all major school systems here on Friday, so maybe the kids will get lucky yet again!

The snow should taper off to light snow or flurries on Wednesday, then we finally get out of this active weather pattern for a while. How does sunshine, clouds, and seasonable temps around 30 sound for the second half of this week and this weekend?

Wisconsin Weather Update for February 18, 2013.
Posted by: HaleStorm, 1:43 PM GMT on February 18, 2013 +0
Light rain this afternoon, changing to light snow this evening, ending tomorrow morning. Windy and colder tomorrow. Bigger snow Thursday night and Friday.
A low pressure system currently in Kansas is going to quickly move northeastward with the jet stream, developing precipitation across Wisconsin later today. Warmer temps with the southerly wind means that the precip this afternoon will likely start out as rain before changing over to light snow around sunset.

Behind today’s cold front, temperatures are going to plummet into the teens tonight and not get above 20 again until probably Thursday. But with Thursday comes a new panhandle hook low pressure system and the threat of a larger snowstorm which could definitely impact travel Thursday night and into Friday. Another big precip-maker may arrive next week Monday and Tuesday, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see how Bryce illustrates that one.

Wisconsin Weather Update for February 11, 2013.
Posted by: HaleStorm, 1:37 PM GMT on February 11, 2013 +0
Scattered light snow showers today, turning cold again by Thursday night.
Yesterday, Winter Storm “Orko” developed a lot of precip across the upper Midwest, but whereas eastern South Dakota and northern/western Minnesota got major snowfall, the dominant precipitation type here in Wisconsin was either rain or freezing rain with temperatures mostly above freezing. Slightly colder air coming in behind the storm system means that most of the storm’s remnants will be light snow rather than rain today, which should come to an end entirely later today as the low pressure system moves off to the east-northeast.

A small disturbance may bring a new round of light snow to Wisconsin Wednesday night and into Thursday, but otherwise it looks like a calm week of weather for a change with a warmer start turning cold again by Thursday night.

Wisconsin Weather Update for February 4, 2013.
Posted by: HaleStorm, 1:56 PM GMT on February 04, 2013 +0
Light snow early today southeast, then more light snow tonight and Wednesday night. Maybe a bigger snow Saturday night and Sunday.
Several rounds of snow are in the forecast this week. Parts of southern WI are finishing up a Winter Weather Advisory where up to several inches of snow fell overnight. A fast-moving Alberta Clipper will bring a quick 1-2” of snow to Wisconsin tonight and into tomorrow morning. A small disturbance may bring more light snow or flurries to the state Wednesday night, then a larger system may generate more significant snowfall Saturday night and Sunday. That could be the next big system to watch, but it’s still six days out so just be aware of it for now.
