Good Tuesday morning!
Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis
After yesterday's weather wackiness of thunderstorms, hail, and even rare damaging November tornadoes in southeastern Wisconsin, today there's a rude reminder out there that we're about to enter December in a week. The wind has strengthened, shifted to the northwest, and cold air has regained control of our state. Now onto the question you want to know - will there be snow - the answer is yes, and it's coming tomorrow. Probably. The National Weather Service wrote up a nice summary of what's to come, which is copied below, but a storm will bring wind and a mixed bag of precip to Wisconsin tomorrow. If you're driving north or northwest, expect to see 3-5" of the white stuff and a slower drive, but if you're heading to Milwaukee, you'll probably just see mostly rain tomorrow afternoon and evening. In the Fox Valley, it'll probably start out as rain tomorrow afternoon, then change to a mix late in the day, with about 1-3" of slush possible by the time you wake up Thanksgiving morning. Luckily, the precip should be gone by then, so if you're not driving anywhere until Thursday morning, you should have a safer drive.
Important Weather Statement: (Source: National Weather Service)
... Hazardous travel conditions possible for the start of the
Holiday travel period...
A band of precipitation is expected to surge northeast across the
area Wednesday afternoon and evening. Currently... the best
estimate is that northern Wisconsin will receive mainly
snow... though the snow is likely to at least mix with sleet and
freezing rain before diminishing late Wednesday night. 3 to 5
inches of snow accumulation is expected by Thursday morning.
Across central Wisconsin... the freezing rain and sleet will
mix with the snow sooner. That should hold accumulations
down... with 1 to 3 inches of slushy accumulation is expected in
Lake Michigan may provide just enough warming in east-central
Wisconsin to result in a mix of snow and rain for much of the
event. As a result... about an inch of slushy accumulation is
expected in the east-central part of the state.
If later data continue to support the current estimates of
precipitation type and snowfall accumulation... winter weather
advisories will be posted for much of the area later today. But
since the storm system that will generate the precipitation is
expected to be quite complex and is still in the formative
stage... the current estimates may still need to be adjusted
substantially with later forecasts.
Anyone with travel plans at the start of the Thanksgiving Holiday
should closely monitor later forecasts.
