Wisconsin Weather Update for October 26, 2010.

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis
Meteorologists across the Midwest
have been in a tizzy over the last few days over a ridiculously-strong
low pressure system which has developed and is making its way across
Minnesota this morning. Lots of wind and rain can be expected with this
system, and conditions outside will be remarkably similar to what you
might experience in a tropical storm. There was even a Tornado Watch
issued for southern Wisconsin overnight, one of which is still in
effect until 11am in southeastern Wisconsin, and there are also several
other Tornado Watch boxes in effect south of Wisconsin this morning.
The rain should end by this evening with just isolated showers possible
tomorrow, but the tropical storm-force winds will remain through
tomorrow, bringing colder Canadian air into our region. But more
importantly, you can say goodbye to all of those leaves you never got
around to raking!

Fox Cities:

... High Wind Warning remains in effect from 7 am Tuesday to 7 PM CDT Wednesday...

* Two rounds of damaging wind gusts are possible during the

warning period. The first will be during the middle to late

morning Tuesday... and the second will occur during the day

Wednesday.

* South to southwest winds gusting as high as 55 to 60 mph are

likely during the first round Tuesday morning. Similar gusts

are expected again during the day Wednesday... but with a more

westerly wind. Winds between those two periods will still be

quite strong... and in the 30 to 40 mph range.

* Winds as strong as forecast can lead to downed trees. Trees

falling on power lines can cause power outages. Driving...

especially high profile vehicles... will be hazardous. Loose

outdoor objects also will be blown around by these strong

winds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected

or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts

near 60 mph or more can lead to property damage. Tree branches

and power lines can come down in winds these strong. High profile

vehicles will be difficult to drive in these conditions.

Southern Wisconsin:
Tornado Watch 720 in effect until 11 am CDT this morning...

... High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Wednesday...

* Timing... gusty south winds early this morning will switch to the

southwest and become strong mid to late morning. A lull in the

winds is expected tonight... before the winds become strong and

westerly on Wednesday.

* Winds... south winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph late

tonight... and turn to the southwest at 25 to 40 mph by late

morning. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected. A lull in the wind

speeds are expected tonight... with west winds of 25 to 40 mph

on Wednesday. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected once again on

Wednesday.

* Impacts... wind speeds at this level will blow down tree

branches and possibly smaller and weaker trees. Power lines

could be brought down by the strong winds or by the falling

trees and tree branches. Outdoor furniture... trash cans and

other loose objects will be blown around. Damage may occur to

outdoor displays. High profile vehicles will be buffeted by

the strong winds... especially on north to south roads.

Today: Cloudy, windy and wet. Showers and thunderstorms likely
with tropical storm-force winds at times during the day. Hold onto your
hats... and everything else for that matter. Morning high temperature
of around 63 with temps falling through the 50s during the day. Chance

late in the day. Temperatures will be lacking as well with highs only
in the low to mid- 40s expected.

This Weekend’s Outlook:

Conditions: Looks to be a partly cloudy and calm weekend with near or slightly below-normal temperatures.

High Temperatures: Probably around the upper 40s to lower 50s east-central, and low to mid- 50s south. Give or take a few degrees, of course.

Damaging Winds Expected Tuesday and Wednesday

An intense storm system that will be capable of producing damaging
winds across much of Wisconsin will begin to affect the area Tuesday
morning. Wind gusts over 50 mph are likely across parts of central and
eastern Wisconsin by mid or late Tuesday morning. In addition to the
general high wind threat Tuesday morning, thunderstorms and showers
ahead of the main system could produce even locally higher gusts.

Winds will decrease a bit Tuesday night before a second round of high
winds develops Wednesday. The high winds on Tuesday and Wednesday
could easily knock down trees and powerlines. Make sure you secure
outdoor objects so that they do not blow around.

This storm storm system has some similarities to the November 1998
windstorm that caused considerable damage across central and southern
Wisconsin from 50 to 70+ mph winds.

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis

We have one more day of sunshine to look forward to today, before
clouds and rain move in for the weekend. High pressure centered over
Kentucky will give us this sunshine before a developing low pressure
center currently in the Rockies slowly moves through the Midwest,
generating clouds and showers with it. Temperatures should be a little
above normal through Tuesday with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s
generally expected, but colder air looks to push into the state for the
second half of next week.

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis

Dry and seasonable October weather looks to continue through the
remainder of our work week. Some fluctuations in the upper-air jet
stream mean that our air temperatures will vary a little from day to
day, but high pressure should keep upcoming weather systems either in
Canada or south of our area. Generally you can expect a partly sunny
sky and highs in the 50s, but we may feel some breezy conditions
tonight and tomorrow, and cooler air briefly arriving on Thursday.

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis
Wisconsin has a very pleasant Autumn weekend to look forward to. Today is another blue sky day, but we'll be a little cooler thanks to northerly winds wrapping around a low pressure system centered in Ohio. A series of high pressure systems to our west promise to deliver a dry weekend, and next week should
remain dry as well. We may see a few clouds from time to time this
weekend but otherwise expect warmer temperatures in the 60s on
Saturday, then back into the 50s for Sunday and next week. Enjoy your
raking, but "never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker."

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 12, 2010.

Good Tuesday morning!

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis

Yesterday was quite a day of temperature contrasts around the state
with highs in the lower 60s in east-central Wisconsin, 70s in western
Wisconsin, and near 80 in southern Wisconsin. A small area of low
pressure in Missouri may push just enough clouds and moisture into
Wisconsin today to develop a few light rain showers or sprinkles, but
otherwise our Indian Summer stretch of mild weather will continue
today.

Some cooler air will push into the state tomorrow as our upper-air jet
stream ridge turns into a trough that will bring cooler air into the
western Great Lakes region from Canada. Today may be our last day of
high temperatures near or above 70. However, with our average high
temperature in the upper 50s (east-central) / near 60 (southern WI),
we're still going to remain a little above normal through the weekend,
except for Friday when we'll be closer to our normal high temperature. Enjoy!

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 8, 2010.

Good Friday morning!

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis

A large area of high pressure continues to dominate the eastern half of
the United States, with areas from the east coast through the Plains
states enjoying sunny conditions and warm temperatures. Our stretch of
Indian Summer is going to continue through the weekend and into the
first half of next week thanks to this area of high pressure combined
with a nice ridge in the upper-air jet stream. Warm southerly winds
should keep us in the 70s through the first couple days of next week
before we gradually drop back into the 60s by midweek. It's October and
this won't last forever so get out and enjoy it now!

Today’s Forecast Grade: A+

Wisconsin Forecast:

Today: Mostly sunny and mild! Indian Summer continues with
temperatures even warmer than yesterday. High of 76 east-central, upper
70s south. I wouldn't be surprised to even see a few locations hit 80
today!

continue next week. We may see an isolated shower on Monday but that
should be about it.

High Temperatures: Probably around 70-75 to start the week, then
dropping to the low to mid- 60s by midweek. That's still above normal
for this time of the year (near 60).

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis

It's another frosty morning across Wisconsin with early morning temperatures in the 30s. A large area of high pressure centered over Illinois isn't moving very much and will continue to keep us sunny and dry for the rest of the work week. A gradual wind direction shift as the high pressure system moves away will bring slightly warmer temperatures back to Wisconsin over the next few days as well. With most of us already having had our first frost along with many of our tree leaves changing colors this week, this could already be defined as an early Indian Summer.

Look for patchy fog early this morning...especially in low-lying rural locations and river valleys. Some ground fog will reduce visibilities to under 1/2 mile. Drivers should be alert for rapidly changing visibilities when encountering these fog patches early this morning.

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 1, 2010.

Wisconsin Forecast Synopsis

October is here and we've arrived into a bit of an unsettled weather pattern. However, besides a passing thundershower later today, the unsettled pattern is not going to be about precipitation. Instead, it'll be the air temperature which will be fluctuating over the next few days, and will probably remain unsettled until January. Hooray for Autumn!

A weak area of low pressure centered in northeastern Minnesota this morning has brought clouds and a small blob of rain with it, and this rain should arrive this afternoon or evening. Behind this low pressure system is a cold front and an upper-air jet stream trough which will plunge cold Canadian air into the Great Lakes region this weekend. So highs in the 60s today will turn into the 50s Saturday and Sunday before coming back to the 60s next week.

Southern Wisconsin:

... Colder air still on target to arrive tonight and linger through
the weekend...

Colder air building up over southern Canada the last few days will
sag southward into Wisconsin and the Great Lakes tonight and
Saturday. A cold front marking the the leading edge of this colder
air will sweep through southern Wisconsin this afternoon and
early evening... possibly setting off a few showers.

Behind this cold front... north winds will pull colder air across
southern Wisconsin tonight. The cold air will then remain
entrenched through Sunday night.

High temperatures over the weekend are expected to be in the
low to mid 50s... which will be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than
readings expected today... and 10 to 20 degrees cooler than
seasonal normals for early October.

Temperatures Saturday night are expected to tumble into the lower to
mid 30s over south central Wisconsin... resulting in widespread
frost. The cold air flowing over the warmer waters of Lake Michigan
will likely bring some clouds to southeast Wisconsin... especially close
to the lake. These clouds will inhibit frost formation by keeping
temperatures a bit warmer.

At this time... it remains uncertain how far these clouds will
extend inland.

Patchy cloudiness could linger over the Lake Shore areas Sunday
night which would again reduce the threat for frost. Farther west... areas
of frost are expected over south central Wisconsin Sunday night... into
portions of southeast Wisconsin well away from the lake.

Never the less... all interests should prepare for cold temperatures this
weekend... and take the necessary precautions to protect sensitive
vegetation.

A change in the upper level wind pattern will bring milder temperatures
back to southern Wisconsin next week.
