Today’s Thought: Tonight is the first game of the Milwaukee Bucks season. How will they do? They were a terrible 28-54 last season, but they were actually a decent team halfway through last season until the injury bug hit and took Michael Redd and others out of the lineup. They were 16-15 in 2006 but a dismal 12-39 in 2007. With everyone healthy and a new intangible in Yi Jianlian, I'm hoping for a 41-41 season, which in the Eastern Conference, tends to get you in the playoffs!

Today’s Forecast Grade: C+

Wisconsin Forecast:
Now: At 7am with windy and warm morning temperatures, most of the state is in the mid- 50s. There's a small line of rain showers in northwestern Wisconsin as well.
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/wi/hourly.html
http://www.pollen.com/state.asp?id=wi

Synopsis: Boy did it get windy last night! It was warm and a little breezy late yesterday afternoon while playing outside with Bryce just before sunset, but the winds began to howl as the evening progressed and it's still pretty bad this morning. These winds are courtesy of a strong area of low pressure in southern Ontario (just a little north of Lake Superior). A cold front associated with this low may develop a few light rain showers a little later today but the warm weather of the last two days is coming to an end shortly after this front passes through.
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/ussatsfc.gif

Today: Mostly cloudy and windy. A few light rain showers are possible later this morning or early this afternoon. Morning high of 57 with temps falling through the 50s and into the 40s this afternoon (after the cold front passes through). Chance of rain 30%.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds, still windy, and cold overnight. Lows upper 20s north, lower 30s central and south.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and not quite as windy. Colder, though. Highs upper 40s north, near 50 central, and lower 50s in southern Wisconsin.

This Weekend:
Friday: Mostly sunny, not windy, highs 52-57.
Saturday: Increasing clouds, maybe an isolated shower along with clocks falling back an hour Saturday night. Highs 51-56. Chance of rain 20%.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, maybe a shower but probably not, highs 49-54. Chance of rain 25%. Next week's highs may not even break 50!

Other City Forecasts:

Today and Tomorrow in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota: Becoming mostly sunny, highs mid- 50s. Breezy today as well.
A cold front barreling through west central Wisconsin...will generate very light showers...or sprinkles to much of this region prior to 630 am. In the wake of the front...across central and east central Minnesota...northwesterly winds will gust as high as 30 to 35 mph. Motorists...and especially those in high profile vehicles...should prepare for strong cross winds on west to east highways...and byways. Wind gusts will increase to between 25 and 35 mph...across all of west central Wisconsin...by 8 am.

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 29, 2007.

By: HaleStorm, 12:57 PM GMT on October 29, 2007

Good Monday morning!

Highlights of the Week:
Lisa: The highlight of my week was Wednesday at Musikgarten with Bryce. This was the 3rd week of the semester and he was more involved and participated more. He really seemed to enjoy it this week. The weekend highlight was spending time with our friends Chris and Allison at their son Andrew's Baptism. It has been a while since we've seen them and it was nice to be able to visit and catch up.

Steve (and Bryce): My highlight of the week was not watching the Boston Red Sox win the World Series last night, nor was it the Detroit Lions, who played the "awww, that's so cute, the Lions actually won a game" card for the fifth time in seven games, making them go from cute to a pest. No, my week's highlight was teaching Bryce how to bowl last night. We got him a set of plastic bowling pins a few months ago, but he never really showed much interest in them before. But late yesterday afternoon he got them out of his toy bin, and I showed him how to set them up and the proper way to bowl. And he loved it! Granted, the pins didn't always setup in a perfect geometric triangle, but we'd set them up together, then he'd walk to the other side of the room with his two bowling balls and roll them one at a time (usually) into the pins. He got really excited when they fell down, and then for his spare, he'd walk up to the few that were left and drop/throw the ball from point-blank range into them. We bowled for about two hours last night, and it was pretty funny. I added a few pictures of it below.

Power of 10 Monday
This late-summer show may not be on the air at the moment, but they're making new episodes which will air again in a couple months. Here are two questions from the initial run:

Question #1: What percentage of Americans think elementary school kids should be required to learn Spanish?

Question #2: What percentage of Americans said they have kissed a dog on the mouth?

Rules and How to Play
Americans were polled by an independent public opinion research firm on a variety of questions, and two questions from an episode of the series are below. It is your job to give me what percentage of Americans answered yes to each question that is asked. If your answer is within 20% one way or the other, you get one point. If you're within 10%, you get two points, and if you are within five percent, you'll get three points per question. The correct percentages will appear in Wednesday's update, along with a breakdown of how everyone guessed.

Synopsis: You can thank the varying cloud cover for the significant gradient in morning temperatures across Wisconsin this morning. As for the rest of the day, besides an isolated shower here and there, look for a mostly cloudy sky today with cooler temperatures returning for the weekend.
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/ussatsfc.gif

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, more showers possible. Lows upper 30s to lower 40s. Chance of rain 40%.

Saturday: Partly sunny and a little colder, highs near 50 north, lower 50s central, and low to mid- 50s south.

Sunday: Partly sunny, still no Packers game, highs mid- 40s north, near 50 central, and lower 50s south.

Next Week:
Monday: Partly sunny, highs 55-60.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, maybe a shower north late. Highs 56-61.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy, highs 53-58.

Other City Forecasts:

This Weekend in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota: Isolated showers tonight and tomorrow, partly cloudy otherwise, highs upper 50s today, near 50 tomorrow and Sunday.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/MN/Minneapolis.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USMN0503

This Weekend in Evansville, Indiana: Showers today, clouds tomorrow, sunshine on Sunday, highs upper 50s to near 60.
An area of light rain will persist over the Heartland as we approach sunrise. Rainfall rates will range from a tenth of an inch an hour east of Interstate 24...with trace amounts to a few hundredths possible west of the Interstate. Movement was northwest at 40 mph.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/IN/Evansville/KEVV.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USIN0190

This Weekend in League City and Pearland, Texas: Sunshine all weekend, highs low to mid- 70s. Nice!

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX0745
http://www.wunderground.com/US/TX/Pearland.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX1029

This Weekend in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Rain today and tomorrow, probably dry on Sunday. Highs lower 70s.
Coastal flood advisory in effect from 7 am to 11 am EDT this morning...
Astronomical high Spring tides will impact coastal areas this morning.
This high water will likely bring shallow flooding to coastal areas
of southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina.

The highest tides of the year will bring high water into coastal
areas this morning between 7 and 11 am. Predicted high tide is
7.2 feet at 821 am in the Charleston Harbor and 9.2 feet at 829
am at the Savannah River entrance. Shallow coastal flooding
normally begins at 7.0 feet at Charleston Harbor and 9.2 feet at
the Savannah River entrance.

In addition to the high astronomical tides... rain was developing
across coastal areas and adjacent waters early this morning. Rain
may become heavy at times later this morning around the Charleston
area. If heavy rainfall coincides with the time of high tide...
significant street flooding will occur in downtown Charleston near
the time of rush hour. This could add to numerous traffic delays
in and around the peninsula.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio all hazards... TV... or your local
news source for the latest weather information from the National
Weather Service in Charleston.
--------------
Scattered light to moderate rain showers will continue pushing northward over southeast South Carolina and southeastern Georgia. Some areas may see heavy rain at times with rainfall amounts up to a quarter of an inch with isolated amounts up to three quarters of an inch.

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 24, 2007.

By: HaleStorm, 12:42 PM GMT on October 24, 2007

Good Wednesday morning!

Match Game Wednesday
Below is the first Match Game played in several months. The rules are similar to Family Feud except you get one point for every five people who respond with the same answer. It's usually humorous and clever answers which end up being most popular, so be creative and have fun!

Game #1: Bernie is the world's greatest salesman. He could sell the Headless Horseman a _________.

Game #2: Harvey said, "My parents never liked me. When I was a kid, my parents gave me a bicycle that didn't have a _______."

Rules and How to Play
http://www.lutheransonline.com/weather/rules

Outburst Results
Since it has been a few months since we last played, I should have reminded people that the person(s) who respond with the least most popular answer that's still listed on the card get a bonus point. It's incentive to submit at least one not-quite-as-common answer, as the last few on the card tend to be a little more "out there." For this category, since all ten cities were in the United States, they probably should have changed the category to be U.S. Cities that Start With "A".

Players: 24
Atlanta (19)
Anchorage (14)
Albuquerque (12)
Austin (13)
Albany (8)
Ann Arbor (2)
Aspen (1) - Bonus Point goes to Nia.
Atlantic City (1) - Bonus Point goes to Jordan.
Allentown (1) - Bonus Point goes to Karl.

...October 2007 on track for warmest October in Milwaukee and second warmest in Madison...

Very warm late summerlike temperatures have been hanging around
southern Wisconsin during much of the month of October. High
temperatures in the 70s and 80s have been quite common...with lows
in the 50s and 60s.

The warmest high temperature for both Milwaukee and Madison this
month is 87 degrees on the 6th. The coolest low temperature is 39
degrees on the 12th and 13th at Milwaukee...and 40 on the 12th for
Madison.

Through Monday October 22...the average temperature in Milwaukee for
October 2007 is 61.2 degrees. This is 8.0 degrees warmer than the
average of 53.2 degrees...and 1.8 degrees warmer than the current
record set in 1947.

...Below are the top 10 warmest October months for Milwaukee...

..rank.. ..temperature.. ..year..
1 61.2 2007
2 59.4 1947
3 58.6 1963
1900
4 58.5 1920
5 56.7 1931
6 56.6 1938
7 56.4 1899
8 56.3 1924
9 56.2 1914
10 56.1 1953

Through Monday October 22...the average temperature in Madison for
October 2007 is 60.0 degrees. This is 8.8 degrees warmer than the
average of 51.2 degrees...and 1.0 degrees cooler than the current
record set in 1947.

...Below are the top 10 warmest October months for Madison...

..rank.. ..temperature.. ..year..
1 61.0 1947
2 60.0 2007
3 59.2 1879
4 58.1 1963
5 58.0 1900
6 57.5 1920
7 56.6 1924
8 56.4 1882
9 56.1 1956
10 55.9 1971
1950

Near average temperatures are expected across southern Wisconsin for
the remainder of the month. Therefore...there is a good chance
Milwaukee will break the record for warmest October...and Madison
will rank 2nd or 3rd warmest.

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 22, 2007.

By: HaleStorm, 12:37 PM GMT on October 22, 2007

Good Monday morning!

Highlights of the Week:
Lisa:
The highlights of my weekend was spending Saturday with my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law Kelley. We went to the Cuff Farm pumpkin patch in Hortonville. We got to go on a hayride and pick our own pumpkins, gourds, and corn. Bryce loved the experience and he especially enjoyed the hayride and playing afterwards on the slides and tractor. We also celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday, and we had a very nice visit. My second highlight was when Steve and I went to the Wisconsin Wanderers Colorado Reunion party at the Horseshoe Lounge Saturday night where we visited with our fellow travellers and shared pictures. Then we watched the band Led West play, and as always they put on an awesome and entertaining show. I also got to visit with my uncle and aunt who were in town from Hilton Head, SC.
Steve:
My highlights are pretty much what she said! It was great being outside for two nice late-October days in a row, and they actually fell on a weekend for a change! Usually those 1-2 day bursts of nice weather fall on a Tuesday so you get home from work just in time to watch the sunset!
Bryce:
Pumpkin patch! Big tractor! Pumpkins! Corn! Big Tractor! Owie! (fell in the pumkpin patch) Big Tractor! Barnyard! Bunnies! Tractor slide! Hay slide! Tractor slide! No hay maze...tractor slide! No go mommy's car! Tractor slide! Tractor slide!

Southern Wisconsin:
Look for isolated light rain showers as a cold front pushes across southeast Wisconsin early this morning. Expect only trace amounts from these isolated showers. A more extensive band of rain showers is lifting northeast from eastern Iowa into southwest Wisconsin. These showers will be pushing into western sections of Sauk...Iowa and Lafayette counties around 7 am...reaching Berlin...Madison and Monroe by 11 am. The band of showers will cross southeast Wisconsin during the late morning into the early afternoon. Rainfall will total a few hundredths of an inch...though an isolated tenth of an inch is possible. Look for northwest winds behind the cold front to usher cooler air across the region...with temperatures dipping into the mid to upper 40s...before recovering into the 50s later today.

Today’s Thought: I made today's Appleton Post-Crescent for my bowling scores Wednesday night. I shot a 256, 233 and a 180 for a 669 series. I was just a strike and 8 pins away from my first ever 700 series, but on the first ball of the tenth frame, I instead shot a big old 4-6-7-9-10 split! (I then proceeded to put the next ball in the gutter to complete my tank job). As a team though, we took 6 of 7 points to maintain our lead in first place. We're hoping for back-to-back league championships!

Usually at least one of the three games is a landslide (if not two!), but this time all three games were all over the board! Not too many people will be getting the one-point bonus for getting all three correct so if you did, you're one of the few!

Players: 28
Game #1:
In a sudden huge thunderstorm, be caught...
A. 15 miles out to sea on a Jet Ski (17) - 1 point
B. One mile out on a windsurfer (11)

Game #2:
Would You Rather...
A. Be a gorgeous person of the opposite sex (19) - 1 point
B. Keep your gender but be an ugly person (9)

Game #3:
While driving 70 mph down the freeway, hear a noise and...
A. Glance into the back seat to see a large, live skunk arching its back and hissing at you (18) - 1 point
B. Look back and see a 4 foot long alligator (10)

Today’s Thought: Bryce is getting to be pretty good at making distractions when needed. While quizzing him on his colors last night, if he didn't know the answer, he initially would just say "I don't know" but it eventually changed over to giving me a cute look, pointing at my hair, and going "Daddy...Kaa-Kut!" I think he has reminded me of my new haircut at least 50 times over the last two days.

Wisconsin Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds, temps are near 50.
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/wi/hourly.html
http://www.pollen.com/state.asp?id=wi

Synopsis: Low pressure centered in northern Wisconsin will give us another mostly cloudy day, but all the precipitation from this system is finally off to our east. A warm front stretching from our next weather troublemaker out west will give us warmer temperatures over the next couple of days, and scattered thunderstorms (some perhaps severe!) reenter our forecast tonight and tomorrow before tapering off on Friday.
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/ussatsfc.gif

Today: Mostly cloudy, breezy and warmer. Highs near 60 north, 66 central, and near 70 south.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms developing. Windy, lows upper 40s north, mid- 50s central and south. Chance of rain 90%.

Tomorrow: Holy yuck Batman! Windy with showers and thunderstorms likely, some perhaps severe! We are under a rare mid- October moderate risk of severe weather tomorrow according to the Storm Prediction Center. Highs low to mid- 60s north, upper 60s central, lower 70s south. Chance of rain 90%.

This Weekend:
Friday: Windy and a little cooler with scattered showers. Highs 56-61. Chance of rain 50%.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, breezy and warmer, highs 65-70.
Sunday: Partly sunny, breezy, highs 66-71.

Other City Forecasts:

Today and Tomorrow in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota: Showers and thunderstorms, highs low to mid- 60s.
... A new 3 month precipitation record could be set in the Twin Cities...

The wettest August... September... October on record in the Twin Cities
is just over 18 and a half inches //18.63//... set in 1900.

The current 3 month precipitation total is the second wettest on record
at just over 18 inches //18.06//.

That is about 6 tenths of an inch //0.57// under the current number one.

If the expected rainfall occurs in the Twin Cities over the next 24
hours then 2007 could get bumped into first place for the wettest.

... One interesting comparison...
after the record wet August... September... October in 1900... the winter
snowfall season of 1900-01... recorded a total snowfall a little below
normal for the era... with a total of 41.5 inches.

During that snow season the greatest monthly snowfall occurred in March
1901 when 19.1 inches was recorded.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USMN0503

Today and Tomorrow in Evansville, Indiana: Morning fog, then scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some could be severe tomorrow. Highs low to mid- 80s.
Patchy dense fog will persist across the region through the early morning hours. In some areas...the visibility will be less than a mile. Local visibilities as low as one quarter of a mile can be expected as well.

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 15, 2007.

By: HaleStorm, 12:30 PM GMT on October 15, 2007

Good Monday morning!

Highlights of the Week:
Lisa:
The highlight of my week was scrapbooking at the ScrapMania event at the Archivers store. It's 6 hours of scrapbooking and fun conversation and meeting new people while working to preserve your most precious memories. Scrapping with a friend or a group of people is so much more fun and motivating that scrapping by yourself. It's fun to get ideas and feedback from others and sharing stories while looking at each others pictures. 2 of the people I met last night came all the way from Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield just for ScrapMania. They also provide dinner and beverages which is an added bonus, and you get to use their die cut machine. It's also really convenient if you have to buy any supplies. You can do it anytime throughout the night, and they just open up a tally for you and you just close it out at the end of the night. My friend Lisa and I will probably try to go at least once a month. They do the events every Friday and Saturday night from 5-11pm and it only cost $15/person.

Steve:
The highlight of my week (besides the Thursday afternoon Fin-n-Feather showboat cruise I already wrote about) was probably watching the movie Evan Almighty last night with Lisa and Bryce. Evan Almighty is an entertaining family movie about someone (Steve Carell) being placed into a modern-day Noah's Ark story, but even better than the movie itself was watching it with the family. Bryce cuddled with us for the whole movie and loved commenting on the various animals that would appear throughout. It was a nice, relaxing way to end the weekend and the first time we've watched a movie from start to finish in one sitting in who knows how long!

Bryce: (written by Lisa)
Bryce's highlight was going to his first Musikgarten class at church. It's a 12 week music class called Family Music for Toddlers. It's taught by a certified teacher and she is great with the kids. Not only do the children have fun and learn to interact with music it's a great bonding experience for the children and their mommy's and daddy's. Bryce was a little timid and moody through most of the first class, but I think with time he will get used to it and he will enjoy it.

It was a little cold at times, but they had an indoor area (with a cash bar) too. Lots of fun, a (free) tasty buffet lunch, and it sure beat working in a cubicle!

Synopsis: Yes, I just mentioned flurries. Welcome to October in Wisconsin. Wisconsin Weather Update for October 8, 2007.

By: HaleStorm, 12:46 PM GMT on October 08, 2007

Good Monday morning!

Highlights of the Week
We are now blogging about our highlights of the week instead of just a weekend family update.

Lisa:
The highlight of my week was walking with Bryce in the Run Wild at Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay. It was a rainy morning, but otherwise it was warm and pleasant. Bryce seemed to enjoy his ride in the stroller while I walked the 3 miles through the park. We finished in 45:36. Bryce was a good boy and he had a really good weekend.

Steve:
The highlight of my weekend was, like Lisa, our trip to Potawatomi State Park for Run Wild 2007. While walking the 3-mile trail last year, I starting thinking that one of these years I should actually try to run it. I've never ran any sort of long-distance in my life, so it was a new challenge! So over the last few months, I've been running about 2.5 miles in 30 minutes at the YMCA a couple times a week to get ready for it. With the adrenalin of the race, people congestion, and random October weather conditions, I had no idea what kind of time to expect. Well, not only did I complete the whole race without having to slow down to walk (one of my goals), I finished in just over 26 minutes, which beat my expectations as well. The hardest part for me was probably the humidity, of all things, as it made it difficult to breathe at times. There were a few times when I wanted to stop and walk, but I said to myself that even though it may hurt now, it will feel worse having to tell everyone that I couldn't finish it without having to walk. But I did it and now feel great for having done it.

Bryce: (written by Lisa)
The highlight of Bryce's week was his swimming lessons. He really loves swimming and he's doing very well. He will now jump off the side and into my arms.

Kozmo: (written by Kozmo??)
Woof! Every night when owners go to bed, they put me downstairs into my kennel and give me a treat. I like sleeping in my little den. Woof! But owners confuse me this weekend. Bark! They think I should be upstairs at night, so they close the basement door and brought my den blankets up for me to sleep on. Woof! I whimper and howl a bit at first since it's confusing to me why they're not putting me in my box anymore, but I'm starting to get used to it. Arf!

Savannah: (written by our cat)
Now that the stupid dog is sleeping upstairs at night, I get the whole basement to myself. And that's good, although it'd be better if he was gone altogether. But now how do I convince my slaves to buy a Littermaid so I get a fresh litter box every day? I don't see them stepping in their own you-know-what when they go to the bathroom!

Wisconsin Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine south and clouds north and west and a line of rain in far western Wisconsin, temps are mostly in the upper 60s.
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/wi/hourly.html
http://www.pollen.com/state.asp?id=wi

Synopsis: I hope you enjoyed this weekend's record-breaking warmth, as it's all going to come to an end shortly. A cold front is developing a solid line of showers and thunderstorms in far western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. As it moves east, we'll see thundershowers developing later today and then it's back to seasonal October temperatures for the rest of the week.
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/ussatsfc.gif

Today: Morning sunshine southeast, but becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon. Highs lower 70s north, and near 79 central and south. Chance of rain 50%.

Tonight: Scattered evening showers and thunderstorms, then variably cloudy overnight. Lows mid- 40s north, lower 50s central and south.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, breezy and much cooler. Highs lower 50s north, lower 60s central, and mid- 60s in southern Wisconsin.

Extended:
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and cool. Maybe a light shower. Highs 53-58. Chance of rain 30%.
Thursday: Partly sunny, highs 56-61.
Friday: Partly cloudy, highs 59-64.
Saturday: Partly sunny, highs 63-68.
Sunday: Partly sunny, highs 59-64.

Other City Forecasts:

Today and Tomorrow in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota: Showers and thunderstorms today, sunshine tomorrow, highs lower 60s today and only lower 50s tomorrow.
Flood Watch in effect until 10 am CDT this morning...
* intermittent showers and thunderstorms will occur across much of
central and southern Minnesota and west central Wisconsin this
morning. Some of the stronger thunderstorms will be capable of
producing heavy rainfall... with rainfall rates around one inch
per hour. Many locations will be susceptible to flooding due to
recent rainfall and resultant saturated ground conditions.

* Small creeks... streams... and rivers may rise quickly. This
includes the Long Prairie river... which has already seen two
to three inches across its basin Sunday evening. The most
susceptible streams will be those prone to quick rises within
the watch area.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop. Never drive your
vehicle through water in which you are unsure of the depth.
-----------------
Periods of showers and a few thunderstorms will continue through the mid morning hours before beginning to diminish. Additional rainfall amounts this morning should generally be no more than another quarter to half inch. A few areas may see amounts as much as an inch. With soils saturated in many areas from recent rains some localized flooding is still possible especially in areas with poor drainage. Motorists should watch for standing water on roadways. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 am.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USMN0503

Today and Tomorrow in Evansville, Indiana: Showers tonight, otherwise partly cloudy, highs lower 90s today and lower 80s tomorrow. Today could be another record high! And how was the weather for your Milwaukee trip?

It was Sunday, however, as temperatures reached the 80s.

Today’s Thought: I was talking to one of the other moms at daycare yesterday morning while dropping Bryce off, and she said that her 2-year-old daughter was watching TV that morning and all of a sudden started shouting, "Bryce-a-Roni's Dada! Bryce-a-Roni's Dada!" (Bryce-a-Roni is his nickname in class) And of all things, she was pointing to WBAY-TV Meteorologist, Steve Beylon. But talk about alternate universes - Steve Beylon looks just like me! Too funny! When I mentioned to the mom that I actually did used to do TV/Radio Broadcast Meteorology as my first career, she thought that was a crazy coincidence. Maybe the next time WBAY's hiring I should apply and really confuse the Green Bay viewers.

Wisconsin Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine mixed with fog southeast, clouds over the rest of the state and showers north, temps are near 60 and going up!
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/wi/hourly.html
http://www.pollen.com/state.asp?id=wi

Synopsis: A warm front is stretching across northern Wisconsin, developing showers in that area this morning. For the rest of us who live south of the warm front, we'll see near-record high temperatures today, and the mild weather will continue through the weekend! Looks like it could be pretty gloomy next week though so enjoy the mild weekend weather.
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/ussatsfc.gif

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely north. Mostly cloudy with a chance of a thundershower later today central. Southern Wisconsin should stay partly sunny and dry today. Breezy, highs lower 70s north but 81 central and low to mid- 80s south. Chance of rain 75% north, 35% central, 20% south.

Tonight: Same as today. Showers likely north, scattered showers central, and probably dry south. Warm overnight, lows mid- 60s. Chance of rain 60% north, 40% central, 20% south.

Saturday: Partly sunny and very mild for October. Two of the four weather models think we could still see some rain tomorrow but I'm placing my forecast with the other two. Record-nearing highs upper 70s north, mid- 80s central and perhaps even upper 80s south. Chance of rain 20%.

Sunday: Partly sunny. An isolated thunderstorm possible. Highs mid- 70s north, lower 80s central and mid- 80s south. Chance of rain 30%.

Next Week:
Monday: Showers and thunderstorms developing. Highs 78-83. Chance of rain 50%.
Tuesday: Breezy with more showers, cooler, highs 68-73. Chance of rain 60%.
Wednesday: Cloudy with even more showers, but eventually ending. Cooler yet, highs 63-68. Chance of rain 40%.

Other City Forecasts:

Today and Tomorrow in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota: Storms today, more storms tomorrow night and Sunday, highs mid- 70s today and Sunday but warming into the mid- 80s tomorrow!
Flash Flood Watch in effect until noon CDT today...
A large area of thunderstorms producing heavy rain continue to
move across southern and central Minnesota into west central
Wisconsin. Rainfall rates are ranging from 1 to 2 inches an
hour. Soils across the area remain nearly saturated across the
region. Rapid runoff is anticipated... especially in urban areas
where urban flooding is likely. The heavy rain will lift north
of the area by late morning.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

http://www.wunderground.com/US/SC/Hilton_Head_Island.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USSC0155

Today and Tomorrow in Las Vegas, Nevada: Windy today, breezy this weekend, sunshine the whole way through, highs upper 70s today, only upper 60s tomorrow and mid- 70s Sunday.
Wind Advisory in effect from 10 am this morning to 9 PM PDT this evening...
Widespread southwest winds between 25 and 35 mph... and gusts up to
50 mph... can be expected today across much of southern Nevada...
northwest Arizona and the San Bernardino County deserts. The winds
will shift to the north and decrease but remain breezy.

Strong winds in excess of 30 mph will create dangerous boating
conditions on area lakes during the advisory period. These winds
will create very choppy waters and generate large waves which
could capsize or swamp small craft. For your personal
safety... operators of small craft are urged to postpone their
outings until the winds subside. If you do venture out onto the
lakes... avoid the open water and stay close to shore or in
protected coves and inlets.

Today’s Thought: One day into the McDonald's Monopoly game and I already have 14 game pieces! I already have six duplicates and no winners yet (go figure!) But after chowing down two McD's meals for Monopoly pieces for breakfast and lunch yesterday, I ate a small dinner, then ran 3 miles in just over 30 minutes at the YMCA (I'm training for my first ever 5K run I'll be doing in Door County this Saturday). I burned almost 400 calories, which I think makes up for a good part of the Big Mac I had for lunch! I was actually a pound lighter on the scale this morning, oddly enough.

Now: At 7am with sunshine, temps are in the low to mid- 50s.
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/wi/hourly.html
http://www.pollen.com/state.asp?id=wi

Synopsis: Behind a cold front now to our east, high pressure will begin building into Wisconsin from the southwest. Luckily for us, this cold front is not going to bring cold temperatures behind it, so look for very nice early October temperatures to stick around for a while. The washout that was expected for Saturday looks now to stay just north of Wisconsin until Saturday night and become more scattered once it does get here, so instead we get some more sunshine and mild temperatures in the 80s this weekend.

Today: Mostly sunny and breezy, highs near 70 north, 72 central, mid- 70s south.

Tonight: Mostly clear, breezy, lows lower 50s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and warm, highs mid- 70s north, upper 70s central, and near 80 south.

This Weekend:
Friday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and warm with scattered showers, highs 78-83. Chance of rain 30%.
Saturday: Partly sunny and very warm for October. Maybe a shower Saturday night. Highs 82-87. Chance of rain Saturday night 30%.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Highs 77-81. Chance of rain 40%.

Today and Tomorrow in Evansville, Indiana: Morning showers today, then partly cloudy, highs lower 80s today and upper 80s tomorrow.
Scattered light showers will continue to lift northeast out of southern Illinois and southwest Indiana by 7 am. A few locations... mainly along and north of Interstate 64 may receive a few hundredths of an inch of rainfall...but most locations will remain dry.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/IN/Evansville/KEVV.html

Today and Tomorrow in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Showers and more showers, highs lower 80s.
Coastal flood advisory in effect from 1 PM to 5 PM EDT this afternoon...
Widespread showers with isolated thunderstorms will persist across the area through mid morning. The rainfall will be heavy at times...with rainfall rates up to one inch per hour possible in the heaviest showers. Ponding of water on roadways is expected.
The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a coastal
flood advisory... which is in effect from 1 PM to 5 PM EDT this
afternoon. The high surf advisory has been cancelled.

Tide levels will be lower at high tide this afternoon compared to
the past several days due to weaker onshore winds and lower
predicted astronomical tides. However... tidal departures will
still remain fairly significant as the persistent onshore winds
have kept the water from draining out of marshes... channels and
other low lying areas along the coast. Given the extent of coastal
flooding experienced along the coast recently... another coastal
flood advisory has been issued for the high tide this afternoon.
High tide will occur in Charleston Harbor at 228 PM... on the
Beaufort river at Beaufort at 342 PM and at 233 PM at fort
Pulaski. However... there could be a lag of around one half hour
until the tide level actually peaks.

The high surf advisory has been cancelled as swells in the coastal
waters and breakers in the surf zone continue to decrease.
Although the high surf advisory is no longer in effect...
significant beach erosion is still possible in some areas
today... especially around the time of high tide.

Numerous reports of beach erosion with some damage to structures
along the beaches were received along the southern South Carolina
and northern Georgia coasts yesterday. Areas particularly hard hit
by this coastal event include Sapelo Island... Tybee Island...
Hunting Island... Folly Beach... Isle of Palms and wild dunes.
People in these areas should make preparations now for the next
high tide... which could result in additional flooding and beach
erosion.

To report beach erosion or coastal flooding... please contact the
National Weather Service in Charleston toll free at

Wisconsin Weather Update for October 1, 2007.

By: HaleStorm, 12:19 PM GMT on October 01, 2007

Good Monday morning!

Highlights of the Week
We're going to make a small adjustment to how we do the weekend personal updates. Instead of listing everything we did over the weekend and what wacky things Bryce did over the last week, we're instead each going to pick one highlight of the last week and write about it. It might be something we did, or maybe just a funny story. You'll get something separate from Lisa, myself, and Bryce (well, I'll be writing Bryce's part, but I'll make it sound like it's coming from him ). I could add highlights from Kozmo and Savannah too (our dog and cat), but they'd probably just involve going for a nice, long walk outside and checking out the new cardboard box sitting in our kitchen, respectively.

Lisa: The highlight of my week was at Octoberfest in Appleton. My mom and I happened to see a friend whom we haven't seen in a long time. He used to be a member of the former band Sweetwater. It was great to see him, enjoyed catching up as well as sharing memories from the "Sweetwater" days.

Steve: The highlight of my week was probably heading down to Genesee yesterday and hanging out with my dad, Linda, siblings (and my new niece Ella!), eating lots of snacks and a tasty lasagna dinner, and watching the Packers get yet another (surprising?) win to go 4-0 on the season! After breaking yet another record, this time the career touchdown passing record, is Brett Favre the best quarterback to ever play the game? Maybe!

Bryce: I liked going with daddy to Waukesha Saturday to my second cousins' Collin and Brenna's birthday party! They had lots of fruit and snacks and juice and a hot dog for me to eat. They had lots of inside and outside toys to play with too, like toy cars, basketballs, a fun lawn mower, slides, and even a pinata! Other kids wanted me to share the toys I found and play with them, but I didn't want to. They're my toys!

Autumn 2007 Season Begins Today!
A new season of games starts right now! If you've wanted to play but never knew when was the right time, let me tell you that now is the perfect time to start playing, as everyone's scores are reset to zero!

Power of 10
The new season begins with a new game, taken from the new CBS game show that premiered this summer, Power of 10! Now, most games in my updates only allow 4 points maximum per day, so it'd be hard for me to give 10 away if you're perfect, but you can get 6 if you really know the way America thinks.

Here's how this game works. Americans were polled by an independent public opinion research firm on a variety of questions, and two questions from the second episode of the new series are below. It is your job to give me what percentage of Americans answered yes to each question that is asked. If you remember the old game show Card Sharks, it works very similar to that.

Here is how the point values will work. If your answer is within 20% one way or the other, you get one point. If you're within 10%, you get two points, and if you are within five percent, you'll get three points per question. The correct percentages will appear in Wednesday's update, along with a breakdown of how everyone guessed. Have fun!

Question #1: What percentage of Americans think fat jokes in movies are not funny?

Question #2: What percentage of Americans would rather watch a hot dog eating contest over a 2008 presidential debate?

NowCast: (Source: National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Look for occasional showers to affect much of southeast and south central Wisconsin during the morning hours. Some of the showers may produce brief heavy rains...especially in the Madison area through 8 am. Some ponding of water may complicate the morning commute.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX

Wisconsin Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds and scattered showers, temps are in the lower 60s.
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/wi/hourly.html
http://www.pollen.com/state.asp?id=wi

Synopsis: A low pressure system centered in southwestern Wisconsin is making life a little gloomy during the first part of Customer Service Week. The showers ahead of this system and its associated cold front will gradually move east out of the state today, meaning that yesterday's high temperatures (near 80 degrees!) will be moving east as well. However, we might get close to 80 again on Thursday and Friday before a soaker cools us into the 50s by Sunday.
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/ussatsfc.gif

Today: Scattered morning rain showers, then becoming partly sunny and cooler this afternoon. Breezy this morning, highs mid- 60s north, 68 central and south. Chance of rain 30% unless it's currently raining, in which case it's 100%.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows mid- 50s.

Tomorrow: Increasing clouds with another round of scattered showers developing late. Highs upper 60s north, lower 70s central, low to mid- 70s south. Chance of rain 40%.

Extended:
Wednesday: Becoming partly cloudy, highs 69-74.
Thursday: Increasing clouds, showers possible late, highs 73-78. Chance of rain Thursday night 40%.
Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy, more showers possible late, highs 75-80. Chance of rain 40%.
Saturday: Windy with rain. Highs 70-75. Chance of rain 60%.
Sunday: Windy and much cooler with more scattered showers. Not exactly an ideal weekend forecast. Highs 55-60. Chance of rain 40%.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USIN0190

Today and Tomorrow in League City and Pearland, Texas: Scattered storms today, partly cloudy tomorrow, highs upper 80s like usual.
Isolated showers moving northwest around 10 mph will affect areas east of the Highway 59 corridor through 9 am. The greatest concentration of showers will affect locations around Matagorda and Galveston bays. Rainfall up to one tenth of an inch can be expected with isolated totals from one quarter to one half inch possible.
