Outburst Tuesday
Outburst returns today, three weeks after its 33-player debut! Give me four answers to the topic below, and you get one point for each one that is also listed on the official Outburst topic card. Have fun!

Today's Topic: Fun Things to Do with Snow

Rules
http://www.lutheransonline.com/weather/rules

Today’s forecast grade: B

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with a mostly sunny sky, temps are near 20, except in southwestern Wisconsin where it's warmer due to some cloud cover.

Synopsis: We are in-between weather systems today, as the low that generated the snow showers yesterday has pushed off to the east, and the next system hasn't quite reached us yet, still in the Dakotas. So high pressure well to our south will dominate our weather today, but that low to our west will get here sooner rather than later and bring more rain or snow showers to our area tonight and early tomorrow.

Today: Mostly sunny this morning with increasing clouds later today. High of 34 central, mid- to upper 30s south. What a way to end our warmest January in recorded history!

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with a rain/snow mix developing overnight. Southern Wisconsin will probably see more rain than snow, and central Wisconsin will start out as rain but turn to snow with 1" or so of additional accumulation expected by Wednesday morning. Lows upper 20s. Chance of precip 70%.

Tomorrow: Morning light snow showers, then some sunshine. Warmer, highs upper 30s central, lower 40s south.

Extended:
Groundhog Day: Mostly cloudy with light snow showers or flurries, mixing with drizzle during the day. Highs upper 30s central, lower 40s south. Chance of precip 30%.
Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with more light snow showers, flurries or drizzle. Highs mid- 30s central, upper 30s south. Chance of precip 25%. Is it just me or is the forecast repeating itself after Groundhog Day?
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, windy and colder as the next big storm revs up to the south. Snow developing late in eastern Wisconsin. Highs 25-30. Chance of snow Saturday night 30%.
Super Bowl Sunday: Cloudy and windy with snow and beer likely. The latest weather models have the storm just clipping eastern Wisconsin, but still have it pegged as a whopper. Keep an eye on the storm track because a slight shift west will have us all using our snowblowers during the Super Bowl. Highs 23-28. Chance of snow 40%.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: A few clouds, breezy, highs lower 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Sunshine and windy, highs near 60.
Wind Advisory in effect until 10 am EST this morning...
A strong cold front will continue to push east of the area this
morning as a large high pressure system moves in from the west. A
tight pressure gradient across the area between these two systems
will cause west winds of 25 to 35 mph through mid morning. Winds
could gust as high as 45 mph at times... particularly through
sunrise across sections of coastal South Carolina. Even higher
wind gusts will be possible on elevated bridges in the coastal
region. Winds will begin to diminish by mid morning as the high
pressure system moves closer to the area.

Winds on Lake Moultrie will be 25 to 30 knots with gusts to 40 knots
this morning. This will result in very rough conditions... particularly
on the Open Lake waters.

US employers brace for Superbowl losses
Sunday's Superbowl XL, a riotous romp of American football and commercialism, will cost US employers more than 780 million dollars as workers fixate on the big game, a survey says.
A massive projected financial hit emerges from an estimate on the cost of each 10 minute period that paid employees gossip about the matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks.
And the survey, by consultancy firm Challenger, Gray et Christmas, Inc. predicts employers may be another 156 million dollars in the hole next Monday, as workers break down the game or nurse hangovers and phone in sick.

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 30, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 2:14 PM GMT on January 30, 2006

Good Monday morning,

This is Lisa and Steve with our weekend and baby update, and I hope you all had a great weekend.

Movie Night:

On Friday night, Steve and I went to see the movie "The Chronicles of Narnia." We both thought it was a great movie, an older-style mix between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings with obvious Christian ties. It was one of those movies where neither of us thought there were any dull moments where you keep looking at your watch - it was fun and exciting the whole way through.

Sunday Baby Shower and Family Game Night:

I went to a baby shower on Sunday afternoon for my friend Bridget. She is expecting a baby girl on March 31st. Bryce spent the afternoon with his daddy. Steve also did some Web site work, waking up at 5am to test a Lutherans Online upgrade, then working on his dad's Pak Mail Web site that afternoon. Sunday evening, we went to my mom and Karl's house for a tasty meatloaf dinner. We also played the game Pit, which was a lot of fun. We were going to play the new, updated version of the game Landslide that Steve recently bought on eBay, but it would have taken us too long to play once we figured out the new rules.

Bryce update:

I don't have too much Bryce news except that he now has an erupted tooth on top, to go along with the bottom teeth that are also starting to come in. He surprised daddy on Saturday by getting himself into a sitting up position all by himself. He's able to pull himself up into a standing position as well, using items such as couch cushions and gates designed to keep him out of the kitchen. Look for more new pictures later this week.

Check Your Points
My new email account was apparently having problems last week, as several of you submitted answers which never found their way into my mailbox. Please double check the updated point standings on my Web site to make sure I received your answers for both Tuesday and Thursday's games. Coming tomorrow: the return of Outburst!

Today’s forecast grade: C

Forecast:
Now: At 8am with light snow showers covering much of Wisconsin, temps are in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Synopsis: So this is what winter is supposed to look like? Hmph. A cold front moved through yesterday, and moisture behind the low pressure system to our east is producing the light snow we're seeing right now. As the low moves to the east, so will the snow, but I fear it's going to be just enough to prevent Green Bay from setting the record for least amount of snow in January's recorded history. It couldn't have waited two more days, huh?

Today: Light snow showers eventually diminishing to flurries. An inch or less of additional accumulation is expected. High of 32.

Tonight: Becoming partly cloudy, but not for long. Lows near 20.

Tomorrow: Increasing clouds and breezy with light rain or snow developing tomorrow night, highs low to mid- 30s. Chance of precip tomorrow night 60%.

Extended:
Wednesday: Maybe some early morning snow showers, then decreasing clouds, highs mid- to upper 30s.
Thursday: Scattered light snow showers, breezy and mild, highs upper 30s to near 40. Chance of snow 30%.
Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with flurries, highs mid- 30s.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, highs 29-34.
Super Bowl Sunday: Increasing clouds and winds with snow developing later in the day. This would be the next storm to keep an eye on. Highs 28-33. Chance of snow 25% for now.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, highs mid- 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Mostly cloudy and becoming windy with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing. Highs mid- 60s.
Wind Advisory in effect from 9 PM this evening to 10 am EST Tuesday...
Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph this evening will become west and
increase to 25 to 35 mph after midnight as a strong cold front
pushes off the coast. Winds could gust as high as 45 to 50 mph at
times... particularly through sunrise Tuesday. Even higher wind
gusts will be possible on elevated bridges such as the Arthur
Ravenel bridge... the Wando River Bridge..the don Holt bridge...
the McKinley Washington Junior bridge and the Talmadge Memorial
bridge. Winds will begin to diminish by mid morning Tuesday as
strong high pressure moves closer to the area.

Winds on Lake Moultrie will increase to 25 to 30 knots with gusts
to 40 knots tonight. This will result in very rough conditions...
particularly on the Open Lake waters.

Today’s forecast grade: A

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds covering most of the eastern two-thirds of Wisconsin, along with isolated rain showers and windy conditions, temperatures are already near 40! That's crazy talk!

Synopsis: Ahead of a new area of low pressure to our northwest and its draping cold front, we have strong, mild, southerly winds, which will make it unseasonably warm today, with some areas in Wisconsin getting close to 50! Don't get used to it because behind the cold front are, well, colder temperatures, but still above normal for this time of the year.

Today: Partly sunny, windy and very mild. High of 47 central, getting close to 50 south!

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows near 30.

Saturday: Becoming cloudy, breezy and a little colder with rain developing. Sure, the one time we get a nice big blob of precipitation in January and it's going to be almost all rain. Such is the snowmobiler's luck this season. Highs upper 30s central, lower 40s south. Rain chance 80%.

Sunday: Cloudy, breezy and colder yet with scattered light snow showers or flurries, mixing with light rain or drizzle at times during the day. Highs lower 30s central, mid- 30s south. Chance of precip 40%.

Next Week:
Monday: Cloudy and breezy with light snow. Highs 25-30. Chance of snow 40%.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, highs 27-32.
Wednesday: Cloudy and breezy with light snow or flurries. Highs 29-34. Chance of snow 25%.

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 26, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 1:22 PM GMT on January 26, 2006

Good Thursday morning!

11 in a Row!
I usually wait until Mondays before sharing any personal news, but this couldn't wait. I almost bowled a 300 game last night in a men's competitive league at Village Lanes in Little Chute. I started the evening series with a 209 the first game, had an open (split) to start off the second game, then ran the table with 11 strikes in a row to end the game and finished with a 279! After a spare in the first frame of the third game, I rattled off two more strikes (thus making strikes in 13 of 14 consecutive frames), and I finished the night with a 199 for a 687 series! This was both my highest game ever (256), and highest series ever (656). I am in today's Appleton Post-Crescent newspaper (you can read it online here, just hit Ctrl+F (Find) and search for my name).
http://www.postcrescent.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060126/APC02/601260687/1892/APCsports
And for getting 11 strikes in a row, I will get a nice plaque from the USBC. The only bad thing about the evening was that the game where I bowled the 279, our five-man team lost by one pin! One lousy pin! If only I had tried just a little bit harder!

Today’s forecast grade: A-

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine, temps are near 20.

Synopsis: A large area of high pressure centered near Memphis will dominate our weather today, bringing us plenty of sunshine and mild high temperatures in the 40s! The winds will start picking up again tonight as a new storm system begins its march across the United States and Canada, but ahead of the low, we'll see strong southerly winds boosting high temperatures even further tomorrow.

Today: Mostly sunny and mild, high of 41 central, low to mid- 40s south!

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and windy, maybe a flurry, lows upper 20s to near 30.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny and breezy, mild highs mid- 40 central, upper 40s south! Crazy!

Extended:
Saturday: Mostly cloudy with light rain or snow, highs near 40. Chance of precip 50%.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, highs mid- to upper 30s.
Next Week's Outlook: That storm I told you to keep an eye on has again probably decided to stay to our south, and things now look dry through Thursday. I don't see any major cold streaks either, so I would expect highs in the mid- to upper 30s for most of next week.

Friday: Partly sunny, breezy and mild, highs mid- 40s central, mid- to upper 40s south!
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and a little colder, highs 37-42.
Sunday: Cloudy with a chance of rain or snow late. Highs 34-39. This is a fairly crazy and unpredictable system, but still worth keeping an eye on for Sunday night and Monday. Chance of precip 40%. If this system misses us, Green Bay could go the entire month of January with less than 1" of snow!

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds and light snow or flurries north and central, some sunshine south, and ah yes, plenty of wind, temps are mostly in the mid- 30s.

Synopsis: A strong area of low pressure over Lake Superior is producing a strong pressure gradient over the northern Great Lakes region, which means it's going to be a pretty darn windy day today. Along with the winds are clouds and light snow showers or flurries, which have already pushed through northern and central Wisconsin and will infect southern Wisconsin momentarily.

Today: Cloudy and blustery with scattered light snow showers or flurries. High of 36. Chance of snow 60%, but I'm expecting only a dusting if anything. Wind chills in the 20s most of the day.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and mild, highs upper 30s to near 40.
Saturday: Cloudy, still mild, highs 38-43.
Sunday: Cloudy, breezy and colder with a chance of rain and/or snow. This is yet another system worth keeping an eye on, and maybe this time we won't be crying wolf! (or will we?) Highs 30-35. Chance of precip 35%.

Some locations can also expect occasional visibility reduced to 1 mile in fog this morning. 1/4 mile or less visibility in sea fog remains possible along some of the inland waterways and beaches in parts of Charleston County.

by this afternoon... and increase to 15 to 30 mph with gusts to
around 40 mph. The gusty winds will last into the early evening
hours... and then subside by midnight.

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 23, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 1:56 PM GMT on January 23, 2006

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update, and I hope you all had a great weekend.

Green Bay Gamblers Hockey:
Friday night we went to the Green Bay Gamblers hockey game with our friends Jason and Nicole. We had great seats and had a great time, especially since the Gamblers won in overtime. The game was still tied after a five-minute overtime period, so they had a best-of-5 shoot out and the Gamblers won.

Tea and Coffee Party and Girls Movie Night:

On Saturday morning, my mom hosted an Inspired Aroma Coffee and Tea Party. I'm not much of a coffee drinker with the exception of flavored coffees, cappuccinos, and lattes. However, I do really enjoy tea and chai, and they have great tasting teas which are very healthy for you. They also have delicious chai tea which is even better than hot cocoa. The party was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it.

Saturday night my friend Lisa and I went to see the movie Walk The Line for a girls night out. We both really enjoyed the movie. Lisa and I are big country music fans and the movie is based on the life of the late Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash. The movie features Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny and Reese Witherspoon as June. Shooter Jennings also has a small part portraying his father Waylon Jennings.

Sunday at Home:

After church on Sunday, the three of us went to Starbucks for a coffee treat, came home and did some chores around the house, then relaxed at home. Steve also worked on his dad's Web site for his three Pak Mail stores. It's not done yet, but he made good progress on it.

Baby Milestones:

Bryce is now sitting up on his own unassisted, if he's first propped up into a sitting position. He was able to sit unassisted for short periods before, but now he can sit until he feels like changing positions on his own. He's also starting to pull himself up on the furniture. He can't quite climb onto the couch yet, but he'll grab the cushions and use them to get into a standing position. He also knows where he wants to go when he's crawling around on the floor, and sometimes he'll even follow you or come to you. Steve caught him playing fetch with his bottle this weekend, where he'd take his bottle, toss it away, crawl after it, then grab and toss it again. He's also starting to eat a little more regular food such as mashed potatoes and gravy, and yogurt. Well, I guess that wraps up my portion of the update. Have a great week.

Bryce Photos of the Week:

Eight new pictures of Bryce were taken and posted online, most of which involve him crawling around the floor. It was hard to decide which pictures to post since he's so camera-friendly!

Look for the winds to increase later today as a new low pressure system moves close to Lake Superior from the northwest. Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Morning fog, then mostly cloudy and breezy with scattered showers. Highs mid- 60s.
Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 am EST this morning...
Areas of dense fog will continue to impact coastal South Carolina...generally along and east of Clyo to Summerville to Jamestown line through late morning. Visibilities will be reduced to less than a quarter mile at times this morning so while traveling...slow down...use your low beam headlights and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Widespread fog has persisted overnight and has been frequently
dense within 15 miles of the coast. In addition... areas of dense
sea fog were lowering visibilities along the immediate coast of
Georgia and South Carolina to near zero at times.

The fog is expected to burn off later this morning as a warm front
moves through the area. Areas of dense sea fog could continue to
plague parts the immediate coast of Charleston County into the
afternoon.

And I'm sorry, but I just can't accept Lima Beans as something in the White House. Yeah, the White House has a kitchen and I'm sure they eat them on occasion, but then I suppose Leftovers, Lettuce and Lard would also be acceptable, and I have to draw the line somewhere. Since nobody else stepped up to challenge it, I'm going to have to take the reins on this one. No points are awarded.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds across the state but not precipitation as of yet, temps are around 25-30.

Synopsis: Behind the warm front that generated crazy warmth across southern Wisconsin yesterday was a cold front, which moved through last night. I hope you didn't get used to temps in the upper 40s because low to mid- 30s are back and likely to stick around for a while. The strengthening panhandle-hook low pressure system currently revving up in Oklahoma is expected to shoot to the northeast today, but besides some light snow tonight, the vast majority of the precipitation will stay to the south and east of the Badger State.

Today: Cloudy with scattered flurries possible. Big deal. High of 33 central, mid- 30s south.

Tonight: Cloudy with scattered light snow showers possible, especially to the southeast where several inches of snow could fall by tomorrow morning. Lows upper teens to near 20. Chance of snow 25% central, 50% south.

Saturday: Becoming partly sunny, highs low to mid- 30s.

Sunday: Light snow north, mostly cloudy elsewhere. Highs mid- to upper 30s.

Next Week:
Monday: Partly cloudy and becoming breezy, highs 32-37.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and windy with light snow or flurries north. Highs 33-38.
Wednesday: Partly sunny and breezy, highs 32-37.

I just learned that a link to my blog now shows up on every Wisconsin forecast page on Weather Underground's Web site, under "Blogs in This State." How's that for additional exposure?

A storm system is expected to affect much of south central and
southeast Wisconsin Friday evening...bringing some accumulating snow.
Accumulations should be enough to end the chance of an official top
10 ranking at the end of the month for Milwaukee...however Madison
does have a chance of a top 10 ranking if snow stays away for the
remainder of the month.

Today’s forecast grade: B- central, A- south

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with scattered snow showers across much of central Wisconsin (from west-central to east-central) and clouds covering the rest of the state, temps are around 20-25 central and near 30 south.

Synopsis: A warm front stretching eastward from an area of low pressure now located in eastern Nebraska will push mild air once again into the Badger State from south to north today. It's also producing a line of snow showers across central Wisconsin at the moment. Today might be A Tale of Two Cities with snow showers across central and northern Wisconsin and southern Wisconsin enjoying mild temperatures and mostly dry conditions.

Today: This is one of those days where it's rather goofy forecasting for both Appleton and Madison/Milwaukee. Cloudy everywhere with scattered snow showers central and north. An inch or less of accumulation is expected. Mostly dry and mild south. High of 33 central, near 40 south. Chance of snow 40% central, 15% south.

Tonight: Variably cloudy, lows low to mid- 20s.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy central, a few more clouds and perhaps some snow showers south. A chance of light snow Friday night. The panhandle hook that was supposed to turn our grass into a heaping pile of snow is now expected to miss us to the southeast. Stupid weather models. Highs lower 30s central, mid- 30s south. Chance of snow Friday night 50% south, 30% central.

Extended:
Saturday: Partly sunny, highs near 30 central, low to mid- 30s south.
Sunday: Partly sunny, highs lower 30s central, mid- 30s south.
Next Week's Outlook: The upper-air jet stream is continuing the trend of developing decent-sized storms, but keeping them to our southeast. On the bright side, another mostly-mild week is probable with highs in the 30s. Has anyone noticed the new email address I've been using to write my weather updates?

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 17, 2006.

Good Tuesday morning,

Another week of games begin right now, and Scattergories is back! Here are two topics for today, and remember to use the starting letter when picking your unique answer to each topic!

Topic #2: Things at the White House

Today’s forecast grade: C+

NowCast: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Fox Cities:
Occasional freezing drizzle or drizzle will affect much of east central Wisconsin through 9 am. Brief periods of light snow are also possible from time to time. Motorists should use caution during the morning commute to work or school...as secondary roads...bridges and overpasses will likely be ice covered in spots.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=GRB&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Appleton

Southern Wisconsin:
Some drizzle or flurries will affect portions of south central and southeast Wisconsin early this morning. With temperatures around freezing...a few slippery spots may develop on untreated roadways. Widespread light fog will also continue through the early morning hours. Visibilities will generally be 2 to 4 miles...with a few spots around one mile.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Madison

Forecast:
Now: At 8am we have quite a bit of precipitation to our east, but just scattered snow showers or flurries over Wisconsin. Temps are mostly around 30-35.

Synopsis: A significant area of low pressure is stretching from central Manitoba all the way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It's generating a swath (yes, I said a swath) of precipitation from Upper Michigan through the Gulf Coast. Most of Wisconsin has missed out on all of the fun, but northern Wisconsin did get some snow out of the deal with Rhinelander reporting 2.5" and Eagle River reporting 4" of new snow this morning. Look for colder temperatures to follow behind this system, then more fun on Friday night.

Today: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a few light snow showers, drizzle or flurries from time to time. It's just enough to make the roads a bit slick this morning. High of 32 central, low to mid- 30s south.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds, breezy and cold for once, lows in the mid- to upper teens with wind chills near zero.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy, highs upper 20s to near 30.

Extended:
Thursday: Mostly cloudy, maybe a few light rain or snow showers, highs mid- 30s central, near 40 south. Chance of precip 25%.
Friday: Mostly cloudy with rain changing to snow late. This one was just intensified by the weather models today and is worth watching closely. Highs mid- 30s. Chance of precip 80%.
Saturday: Morning snow showers, then decreasing clouds and colder, highs 25-30. Morning snow chance 40%.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs 28-33.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, highs mid- 50s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Partly cloudy and windy, highs lower 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/SC/Hilton_Head_Island.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USSC0155

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Becoming mostly sunny; cooler and windy, highs lower 60s.
Wind Advisory in effect until 6 PM CST this afternoon...
Strong north winds in the wake of a cold front can be expected
across the coastal counties of southeast Texas today. The tight
surface pressure gradient in combination with strong winds
at the lower levels of the atmosphere will result in sustained
northerly winds of 20 to 30 mph. Wind speeds should begin to
decrease later this afternoon.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX0745
http://www.wunderground.com/US/TX/Pearland.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX1029

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Rain turning to snow, about 1" of accumulation, breezy, temps in the 30s.
Widespread light to moderate rain will continue over the eastern half of the quad state through 8 am. Additional rainfall amounts will average between a tenth and a quarter inch. A few locations...mainly along and east of the pennyrile parkway...will see half an inch with the areas of heavier rain. The rain will continue to slowly taper off from west to east through mid morning. Gusty northwest winds will usher in much cooler temperatures.

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 16, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 2:02 PM GMT on January 16, 2006

Happy Monday,

This is Lisa with our week and baby update, and I hope you all had a great week. We had a fun and fairly relaxing weekend. Saturday, Steve and I attended my annual HumanaDental Holiday Party at Stadium View in Green Bay. We had a really nice dinner, and we had a chance to mingle with some of my friends and co-workers. Sunday we did some chores around the house, then spent some time together as a family. In addition, Steve got a chance to play Mario Kart DS with some of his college friends across the country via multi-player WiFi, I played some Animal Crossing DS, and lastly we finished out the weekend watching the season premiere of 24: Day 5. We're going to try not to get behind on the show like what happened last season!

Bryce Update:
Bryce had a more interesting week. Wednesday he had his 6-month doctor's appointment. He was 27 1/2 inches long and he's in the
80th percentile for babies his age for length. His weight was 15 lbs, 6 oz. Our doctor said he's growing consistently for his weight and length, and following the trend that he'll be long and lean. He said that he's a healthy 6-month old. He also gave us the approval to
start #2 solid foods which introduces meats and also has fruits and vegetables that have more variety. He has liked almost everything he's
had so far. He wasn't as crazy about the green beans w/mashed potatoes or the vegetable beef, but he liked everything else.

Bryce also grew out of his infant car seat because of his length, so we went to Wal-Mart and bought new convertible car seats. Steve and I had the project of setting them up and getting them ready for him.

Bryce is also doing lots of travelling around the living room. He's not crawling on his hands and knees yet, but he gets around very well by scooting around using his arms and legs. He's almost sitting up by himself, but he has to be propped up first. He can sit unsupported for about a minute before falling sideways. I think sometimes he does it on purpose because he's bored and doesn't feel like sitting up. He'd much rather be travelling the living room than trying to sit up in one place. He's become a very observant little boy, and he's curious about everything and likes to grab everything.

Well, that ends my update, I'll let Steve get on with the forecast, and I'll be back next week.

Photo of the Week
We didn't take any new pictures of Bryce this week, but I don't think I ever shared our first family portrait with you guys. So here is our first family portrait, taken on November 20, 2005.

...Warmest first two weeks of January on record...

The streak of mild weather that continued for the last week of
2005...has continued these first two weeks of 2006 across southern
Wisconsin.

The average temperature in Milwaukee from January 1st through the
14th has been 34.8 degrees...which is a whopping 14 degrees above
normal.

This is the warmest first two weeks of January on record in Milwaukee
dating back to 1942.

Here are the top 10 warmest first two weeks of January on record...

Rank temperature /degrees/ year

1 34.8 2006
2 34.3 1992
3 31.6 1987
4 31.5 1949
5 30.4 1990
6 30.3 2002
7 29.4 2000
8 29.0 1955
9 28.5 1983
9 28.5 1950
10 27.8 1960

The warmest January on record was 1990 when the monthly
average temperature was 31.1 degrees.

In Madison...the average temperature for the first two weeks of
January has been 32.6 degrees. This is 15.3 degrees above
normal...and also the warmest first half of January on record dating
back to 1947.

Here are the top 10 warmest first two weeks on record in Madison...

Rank temperature /degrees/ year

1 32.6 2006
2 31.5 1992
3 30.1 1987
4 27.9 1949
4 27.9 2002
5 26.9 1990
6 26.7 2000
7 26.0 1955
8 25.4 1960
9 24.9 1950
10 24.6 1956

The warmest January on record in Madison was 1990 when the monthly
average temperature was 29.0 degrees.

A lack of snow cover and a significant and long lasting push of cold
Canadian air have strongly contributed to the warm streak of weather.

Average temperatures are expected to remain above normal through the
coming week.

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Look for light rain to move into far southeast Wisconsin between 630 am and 7 am. Locations southeast of a line from Milwaukee...Burlington to Lake Geneva line are most likely to see the light rain between 7 am and 8 am. A narrow band of flurries along a dells to Lone Rock line...will extend from Berlin...Madison to Darlington around 730 am...and from Fond Du Lac to Monroe by 9 am. The rest of southeast and south central Wisconsin will see mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the lower to middle 30s. Northwest winds around 10 mph...will increase to 15 to 25 mph by 9 am.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Madison

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds and areas of fog, temps are in the mid- 30s.

Synopsis: Well, the light rain or snow that was predicted for last night and this morning has stayed mostly south of the Wisconsin/Illinois border. Besides a few scattered snow showers this morning, look for an otherwise cloudy and colder day across the badger state.

Today: Cloudy and colder with a few light rain or snow showers from time to time this morning, then maybe a hint of sunshine before sunset. Windy with a high of 34 central, mid- to upper 30s south. Chance of snow 35%.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds, lows near 20.

Saturday: Morning sunshine, then becoming just partly sunny and breezy, highs low to mid- 30s.

Sunday: Partly sunny and breezy, highs lower 30s central, mid- to upper 30s south.

Next Week:
Monday: Cloudy and breezy with scattered rain showers turning to light snow showers Monday night. Highs 35-40. Chance of precip 40%.
Tuesday: Cloudy and breezy with light snow showers. We may still get an inch or two of snow, but the beef of this system might miss us to the southeast. Highs 32-37. Chance of snow 50%.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, highs 35-40. Maybe another inch or two of snow Friday night.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine today, highs mid- 60s. Lower 60s Saturday, only mid- 50s Sunday, and a chance of desert rain showers Saturday night and Sunday.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Showers and thunderstorms developing, some may be severe. Highs mid- 60s. Partly cloudy, windy and colder this weekend with highs mid- to upper 50s.
... Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening
across all of southern South Carolina and southeast Georgia...

A strong cold front will approach from the west later today and
will move rapidly off the South Carolina and Georgia coast tonight.
A line of showers and thunderstorms will precede the front as it
moves through the region. This activity is expected to reach
inland areas of southeast Georgia and southern South Carolina
prior to sunset and then arrive at coastal locations during the
first half of this evening.

The forecast rapid motion of the squall line suggests that any
storm along the line will be capable of producing damaging winds.
A few of the stronger storms may also be accompanied by large
hail or an isolated tornado. However... if the squall line
encounters a more unstable atmospheric environment than is
currently forecast... a more dangerous situation is possible.

The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked most of Georgia and
South Carolina in a moderate risk for severe weather later today
and this evening.

People across southern South Carolina and southeast Georgia should
continue to monitor the latest weather information and forecasts
from the National Weather Service on this potential severe weather
episode. This can be done through NOAA Weather Radio all hazards...
TV or your local news source. Always remember to keep your NOAA
Weather Radio in alert Mode whenever severe weather threatens.

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Decreasing clouds and windy today, highs upper 60s. Mid- 60s Saturday, near 70 Sunday with a partly cloudy sky.
Wind Advisory in effect until 6 PM CST this afternoon...
Strong north winds in the wake of the cold front will be on tap
today as a cool airmass drops down into southeast Texas. A
combination of a strong pressure gradient... daytime heating and
strong winds aloft that will mix down to the surface will bring
sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts to the coastal
counties this morning and afternoon. Winds should begin to relax
late this afternoon.

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Breezy with showers and isolated thunderstorms, turning to light snow tonight. Highs upper 50s early but dropping through the 40s today. Partly cloudy this weekend, highs lower 40s Saturday and upper 40s Sunday.
Some lingering light to moderate showers will continue to move across southwest Indiana and the pennyrile region of west Kentucky. This area of precipitation will exit the area from west to east over the next hour. Behind this area of showers...some light rain or drizzle will be possible...as a cold front marches eastward across our area.

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
High relative humidity and cool temperatures under mostly clear skies has caused frost to form on area roads and sidewalks. Most major roads have likely been treated and will be unaffected by frost...but secondary and tertiary roads may see slippery stretches due to the frost. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to move about with care during the early morning hours...until temperatures warm enough to melt the frost.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Madison

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with a variably cloudy sky, temps are 25-30 central and already in the low to mid- 30s south.

Synopsis: Well folks, we have one more day of mild temperatures to look forward to before winter kicks in again. A surge of warm air ahead of an area of low pressure to our west will bring the warmest temperatures of the year into the state today. That's not a big deal though, since we're only 12 days into the new year. A cold front will sweep through tonight and tomorrow, bringing a mix of light precipitation with it, and colder temperatures behind the front. Remember that the average high temperature for today is only 24-25 so I think we've done fairly well for ourselves in the first third of January.

Today: Partly sunny, breezy and mild. Increasing clouds again late. High of 44 central, upper 40s south! Enjoy the weather because it probably won't be in the 40s again until July!

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with light rain turning into light snow overnight. Any heavy precipitation is expected to stay well to our south. Lows near 30. Chance of precip 40%.

Tomorrow: Cloudy and windy with light snow showers in the morning. 1" or less of accumulation is expected. Decreasing clouds later in the day, with colder highs in the mid- 30s central, upper 30s south. Chance of morning snow 40%.

Extended:
Saturday: Partly cloudy, highs in the lower 30s central, mid- 30s south.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy and breezy, highs lower 30s central, mid- 30s south.
Next Week's Outlook: There are several significant weather systems to keep an eye on for next week. The first one is currently projected to come through Monday night and Tuesday, the second one may hit Thursday night, and a third system might move through next Saturday. The storm system for Thursday night looks like a fast-moving Alberta Clipper and the one for next week Saturday is too far out to get all excited about, but the Monday night into Tuesday storm could be a whopper, so keep an eye on the forecast to see whether it will play out as expected. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate a bit, starting in the mid- 30s Monday, near 30 Tuesday and Wednesday, and in the 20s by Thursday and Friday.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Decreasing clouds, highs lower 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Morning fog, then becoming partly cloudy, highs upper 60s.
Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 am EST this morning...
Dense fog is expected to become widespread across southeastern
South Carolina and southeast Georgia this morning. Areas of dense
fog with visibilities below 1/4 mile at times can be expected for
the morning commute.

Motorists should allow for some extra travel time this morning.

A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be
reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving... slow down...
use your headlights... and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

Visibilities are expected to improve between 9 and 10 am this
morning.

Today’s forecast grade: B

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Look for a band of steady light rain...along and southeast of a Sheboygan...Jefferson to Brodhead line...to shift east at 20 mph. The light rain should clear Port Washington...Oconomowoc and Janesville around 6 am...Mequon and Lake Geneva by 7 am...Milwaukee...Burlington and Salem between 745 am and 8 am. Light freezing rain is also possible...especially across Washington and Ozaukee counties...making roadways icy in spots. The remainder of south central and southeast Wisconsin will see areas of fog reducing visibilities to between 1 and 2 miles...with patchy dense fog dropping visibilities to 1/4 mile. Drivers should be alert for rapidly changing conditions...with the light precipitation causing slick roadways...especially in low lying areas...where temperatures may drop to or below freezing before daybreak.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Madison

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with a few rain showers southeast, light snow showers in far northern Wisconsin, and a mostly cloudy sky with a few areas of fog elsewhere, temps are near 30 central and the lower 30s south. Not a bad January temperature to start off the day.

Synopsis: The first day of sunshine seemed much like the first big snowfall of the season - people forget how to drive with the sun glaring at you. That won't be as big of a problem today though, as a storm system to our south is pushing rain across far southeastern Wisconsin and will keep things cloudy more than sunny for much of the day.

Today: Rain showers this morning southeast, along with a few areas of fog, then becoming partly sunny and mild. High of 41 central, lower 40s south. And maybe today it'll actually get that warm.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows upper 20s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny and becoming windy, mild highs near 40 central, low to mid- 40s south. Light rain turning to light snow tomorrow night. Chance of precip tomorrow night 60%.

Extended:

The streak of cloudy days across Green Bay finally came to an end

most consecutive cloudy days.

For climate purposes...a cloudy day is defined as a day when the

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 10, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 1:35 PM GMT on January 10, 2006

Good Tuesday morning!

New Game: Outburst!
Yes, the new game this season is Outburst! Obviously we can't have two teams of fifteen shouting out as many answers as they can think of for two minutes, so instead here is how it will play. I will give you one topic. On the card, there are ten possible answers to each topic. Your job is to email me four answers to the one topic, and you will get one point for each answer you give me that is also listed on the card. You may think of many more great answers, but only answers that are also on the card will receive credit, so blame Hasbro if you have any complaints.
Confused? Send me an email and I'll clarify the rules. I'll have the results tomorrow.

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 9, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 1:49 PM GMT on January 09, 2006

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekly and baby update, and I hope you all had a great weekend. Not too much happened this week. Steve joined the Communications Team at First English Lutheran Church, and went to his first meeting on Tuesday. He'll be redesigning their Web site in the coming months. Our weekend was very nice and relaxing. Saturday, I went shopping at the mall with my friend Amy, while Bryce spent some time bonding with his daddy at home. Sunday, we went to church followed by a frozen food shopping trip to Sam's Club, then we spent the rest of the day relaxing at home and doing some chores around the house. Steve finally finished watching the SportsNight TV series on DVD, and we're four episodes from finishing Season Four of the TV show 24. We're trying to finish up 24 before the new season starts this Sunday, and we both think that Season Four might be the best one yet.

Bryce's Week in Review
Bryce hasn't done too much new since the last update. He has his 6-month doctor's appointment this week, which includes a check up and another round of shots. He's never thrilled with the shots, but with a dose of infant Tylenol he usually recovers from them pretty well. Bryce has been sleeping in later for a few weeks now, going to sleep around 10pm and waking up somewhere around 7-8am. Well, I guess that wraps up our update for this week. Have a great week.

New Game Tomorrow
Make sure you read tomorrow's intro, as I'll be introducing another new game to this season. Will it be fun? Will it be lame? Too easy or hard? Find out tomorrow!

Today’s forecast grade: C+

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds (of course) and light snow across northern Wisconsin, temps are near 30 central and the lower 30s south.

Synopsis: An area of low pressure now in the Ohio Valley hasn't been producing a lot of precipitation, but it did bring some mild temperatures with it as many places had well above normal temperatures this weekend. As for today there is a weak cold front moving across Wisconsin from Canada generating some light snow showers north, and after that more high pressure moves in from the west.

Today: Clouds early, then maybe a little bit of sunshine this afternoon. How's that for change? Temperatures won't be changing much, however, with a high of 33 central, low to mid- 30s south.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows mid- to upper teens.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and breezy, highs mid- to upper 30s. For almost the middle of January, that's a winning forecast!

Extended:
Wednesday: Partly sunny and continued mild, highs upper 30s to near 40.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy with light rain developing late, perhaps turning to light snow Thursday night. Highs upper 30s to near 40.
Friday: Morning flurries, highs mid- 30s.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, highs 33-38.

Today’s forecast grade: C+

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds, a few flurries, and areas of mostly light fog, temps are at or just above 30. And staying there, too.

Synopsis: The giant mess of clouds that has lingered over much of the Midwest over the last few days has no immediate plans to go anywhere else anytime soon. The low pressure system that generated the light mixed bag of precip yesterday has moved to the east, and a colder troposphere should keep any light precipitation we get as flurries.

Today: Cloudy and breezy with an occasional flurry. High of 33 central, mid- 30s south.

Tonight: More clouds, more flurries. Lows near 20.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, probably some more flurries, highs near or just above 30.

Extended:
Saturday: Light snow north, clouds elsewhere, warmer, highs 35-40.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, highs 32-37.
Next Week's Outlook: Another week with not a whole lot going on. The only chance we have at a storm would be next Thursday night, but current projections have it missing us to the north and falling as rain even if it did come our way. Wait and see what happens with that. Temps look to stay above normal (24-25), around 30-35 for much of the week.

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Look for widespread fog over southern Wisconsin during the morning hours. Visibilities will generally range from 1 to 3 miles. However...some local visibilities between 1/4 and 3/4 mile will be possible through 9 am. Use low beam headlights and slow down as you encounter areas of thick fog.

Forecast:
Now: At 8am with areas of fog, drizzle or flurries, and heavier precipitation across northeastern Wisconsin, temps are in the mid- to upper 30s and will pretty much stay there today.

Synopsis: I think the proper phrase to describe yesterday's and today's forecast is "pea soup." The Dense Fog Advisory for early this morning has been cancelled, but similar to yesterday, expect areas of fog, drizzle, and the occasional flurry throughout the day today as an area of low pressure moves across Wisconsin.

Today: Lovely. Just lovely. Cloudy with areas of fog and scattered drizzle or flurries. Becoming breezy with a high of 37 central, near 40 south. There's another word that describes gloomy days like this: "Bleh."

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with more fog, drizzle or flurries, but eventually ending overnight. Lows upper 20s.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy and breezy, highs low to mid- 30s.

Extended:
Friday: Mostly cloudy and a little colder, highs upper 20s to lower 30s.
Saturday: Cloudy and breezy again with light rain or snow possible. Highs 31-36. Chance of precip 30%.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with flurries or drizzle, highs 33-38. Chance of precip 25%.

A large area of dense fog is moving north across the western
counties of southeast Texas as of midnight. Light southeast winds
and humid air will favor the development of the fog across the
remainder of the advisory area over the next few hours.
Visibilities below 1/4 mile will be common. Visibilities are not
expected to improve until mid-morning.

Wisconsin Weather Update for January 3, 2006.

By: HaleStorm, 1:47 PM GMT on January 03, 2006

Happy 2006
This is Lisa with our extended weekend and baby update, and I hope you all enjoyed your holidays however you chose to celebrate them.

CHRISTMAS
We had a very nice Christmas, which was spent with family across central and southeastern Wisconsin. Christmas was extra special for us this year, as it was Bryce's first. We all received many nice and special gifts, and the gift giving was just as enjoyable. Bryce enjoyed trying to open his gifts, and he got a little better at it with time. He also managed to try and eat some wrapping paper in the process before needing help from mommy and daddy, and like any young child, we think he played with the paper more than he did with the presents themselves!

NEW YEAR'S
New Year's was a lot of fun too. We kept it pretty low key this year and had our friends Jason and Nicole over for food and board games. We had homemade chili, tons of snacks, and a chocolate fondue for dessert. We later played the game Landslide, which is an old politics game from the 1970's. We had a lot of fun and hung out until about 2am! We spent New Year's Day relaxing at home, since we were up very late on New Year's Eve (except for Bryce, of course!)

BRYCE 6 MONTHS-Jan 3rd, 2006
Bryce is six months old today! He is becoming so adventurous and fun, and even though he's not crawling on his hands and knees yet, he manages to get himself anywhere he wants to go. He is able to scoot himself around the floor using his arms and legs, and he can also sit up on his own for short periods of time. He's enjoying playing with his new toys, but he enjoys playing with our CD's, DVD's and our VCR even more. He also tries to get our laptop battery cord, but we manage to get it from him in time before he does any damage to himself or the computer. When we catch him doing something he shouldn't be doing, he gives us a mischievous smile, and then when we tell him no, he will sometimes start to pout and cry. After the short crying spell, he then goes right back to causing more trouble, and the cycle begins again.

PROMOTION
Steve got a promotion at work! Starting today, he is a Senior Web Designer with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Needless to say, Steve is very excited about the promotion. He will also be celebrating five years at Thrivent Financial next month.

Well that wraps up the personal part of the update, and I wish you all a very happy and healthy 2006.

Winter 2006 Season Begins!
A new season of games begin right now, and everyone is invited to play! The first game of the new season is below, and new rules for this season are in the paragraphs below. Enjoy!

Family Feud Rules

Winter 2006 Season Rules
After several polls and talking with a few people about it, it seems that more people like the playoff system than don't like it, but that it was just too long for everyone else who didn't make it in. So, I have some rule changes for the Winter 2006 season:

1. Playoffs will be only one week long, and games will be played each day that week, including Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It'll be fast and furious! Final results will appear in the following Monday's issue (you'll have to wait over the weekend to find out who won!)

2. I will be adjusting the head-start bonus rule for the playoffs. Last season, the top five people in the regular season received two free points going into the playoffs. This year, the top three will get three points, the next three will receive two points, the third three will receive one point, and the last person to enter the playoffs (plus ties) will not receive any points. This will reward the overall leaders in the regular season with the best chance of winning; however, the lead isn't big enough to be insurmountable by any other playoff player.

3. I will be unveiling a new game next week Tuesday. Stay tuned for that!

4. Two other games will sit on the shelf until the Spring 2006 season. This means that six games will rotate throughout this season. Which ones will be on the bench? You'll find out in three weeks via the process of elimination.

Rule changes staying the same:

1. Games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday.

2. The regular season will run through March 10 and the playoff week will be the week of March 13-17. Talk about March Madness!

3. There will be one double-points week, the last week of the regular season (March 7-10). A Wednesday game will also be played that week.

4. The top player in the regular season will receive a small weather-related prize the next time I see them in person. Sorry, but I'm not spending $7 to ship a $3 item. The playoff champion will receive a nicer weather-related prize.
