Autumn 2005 Final Playoff Standings:
Congratulations to Lisa's cousin Tammy who has won the Autumn 2005 championship! Tammy was six points below the cut line before the final week of the season, and has pulled off four consecutive perfect weeks to steal the championship! She hasn't missed a point since November 22!
Note: Yesterday I did not award Tammy any points for Wheel of Fortune, but she said she sent them the previous night and I have a second witness that also said that she did in fact send the three correct answers, so I awarded her three points from Wednesday's game.

Karl, who has an amazing habit for coming in second or third, has done it again, coming oh-so-close to a perfect record but coming just short on the Family Feud and Match Game. And the regular season champ, coworker Becky T., came in a very respectable third place tie with another coworker, Sheila. Final results are below:

Tammy, Madison, WI: 27 (+4)
Karl, Appleton, WI: 25 (+4)
Becky T.: 21 (+4)
Sheila, Appleton, WI: 21 (+4)
Barb, Berlin, WI: 20 (+0)
Bethany: 20 (+2)
Lisa, Appleton, WI: 18 (+4)
Brian, Madison WI: 17 (+4)
Katie/Bart, Mukwonago, WI: 17 (+2)
Nia, Appleton, WI: 15 (+0)

How many weeks should I make the seasonal playoff period? [13 votes total]
Eight people voted to keep the playoffs compared to five that said get rid of it, but most everyone seems to think that three weeks is too long. So I am going to keep it around next season, but make the playoff period shorter. Look for more details next season.
None - go back to the way it used to be! (5) 38%
1 Week (4) 31%
2 Weeks (3) 23%

Thanks to everyone for playing this season, especially those of you who were eliminated from the playoffs yet emailed me their answers anyway (which I also included in the daily results). I have a few changes in store for the Winter 2006 season, including updated rules based on your responses and yet another new game!

Since I know a lot of my readers are taking off all of next week, I will do the same, but I look forward to bringing you more updates, challenges, weather information, and hopefully a few laughs in 2006. Thank you very much for reading, have a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah, a Happy New Year, and look for a new year of updates and a new season of games starting January 3, 2006!

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Fox Cities:
Freezing Rain Advisory in effect until 10 am CST this morning...
A Freezing Rain Advisory means that freezing rain will cause
icy roads and sidewalks. Please slow down and allow extra time to get to
your destination this morning.
Even though air temperatures are at or above freezing...the rain continues to freeze on the sub freezing roads and sidewalks in Green Bay...Seymour and Luxemburg. Many cars have slid into ditches...so consider whether you really need to travel this morning. The steady precipitation will taper off to drizzle by mid morning. Until then...be extremely careful if you must travel.

Southern Wisconsin:
Look for some rain to affect portions of Marquette...Green Lake... Fond Du Lac and eventually Sheboygan counties through 8 am. Due to cold pavement some freezing rain is possible...especially in low areas across Marquette and Green Lake counties. Motorists should be on the lookout for unexpected slippery roads.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with rain showers east and south mixing with freezing light rain or drizzle central and north, temps are hovering just above the freezing mark central and in the mid- 30s south.

Synopsis: A weak area of low pressure is centered near eastern North Dakota. Ahead of it and a frontal boundary to its east are the scattered showers we're seeing this morning across parts of Wisconsin. It's mostly rain to the south and east but is freezing when it hits the ground across central and northern Wisconsin, so although it's rather light, it still could make things a little slick this morning.

Today: Light rain showers or drizzle this morning, mixing with freezing rain early central. Perhaps a glimpse of sunshine this afternoon, which you can check on while infosnacking at work. High of 37 central, upper 30s to near 40 south. Precip chance 100% since it's already raining. I mean, duh.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with more light rain showers developing, mixing with light freezing rain at times. Lows near 30. Precip chance 40%.

Christmas Eve: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a heavier rain possible, especially south, and perhaps mixing with freezing rain early in the day. Highs mid- 30s. Precip chance 70%.

Christmas Day: Partly sunny with a 99% chance of good will toward men, highs mid- 30s.

Full Days of Hanukkah:
Monday: Partly sunny and breezy with isolated rain showers north late, highs mid- 30s. Precip chance 25%.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, highs upper 30s to near 40.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, maybe an isolated shower, highs mid- to upper 30s. Precip chance 20%.
Thursday: Partly sunny, highs low to mid- 30s.
Friday: Rain developing late and changing to snow overnight. Highs low to mid- 30s. Precip chance 40%.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, highs upper 60s through this weekend and into the first part of Hanukkah.

Today’s forecast grade: C

Forecast:
Now: At 7am we have clouds, isolated snow showers and a lot of wind! Temps are in the upper teens to near 20 with wind chills in the single digits above zero.

Synopsis: A strong pressure gradient between an area of high pressure to our south and low pressure in central Canada is pushing warmer temperatures into our area. Unfortunately, it does that by making it really windy, but at least it's a warmer wind compared to what we've had lately.

Today: Cloudy and windy with isolated snow showers this morning, then becoming partly sunny and warmer but still windy. High of 32. Chance of snow 20%.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with a light mix possible. Lows upper 20s. Chance of precip 35%.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy and windy with scattered cold rain showers, perhaps landing as a mix early or late in the day. Highs mid- 30s. Chance of precip 50%.

Extended:
Christmas Eve: Cloudy and windy with a light mix, heavier to the south. Highs low to mid- 30s. Chance of precip 40%.
Christmas Day: Decreasing clouds and winds, highs lower 30s.
Next Week's Outlook: Things look dry through Thursday with a rain changing to snow event coming around Friday. Temps look to stay mild, in the 30s.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy and mild, highs mid- 60s.
Near record high temperatures today...
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Sunshine, highs lower 50s.
... Freezing temperatures possible again tonight across the
beaches of south coastal South Carolina...
Clear skies and light north winds will once again allow
temperatures to drop to near freezing by sunrise Friday across
the beaches of south coastal South Carolina. This includes the
communities of Daufuskie Island... Pritchardville... Bluffton...
Hilton Head Island... Beaufort... Bennetts Point... Wadmalaw
Island... Rockville... James Island... Johns Island... downtown
Charleston... Mount Pleasant and McClellanville. In addition to
freezing temperatures... there will be a risk for scattered to
widespread frost.
Coastal residents should prepare now for a light freeze. Bring

Today’s forecast grade: C

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with a cloudy sky and scattered light snow showers or flurries, temps are scattered through the teens (above zero!)

Synopsis: There's not much going on from a weather system standpoint. A weak trough from our north is pushing some morning clouds and scattered light snow showers into Wisconsin, but will eventually give way to some sunshine. A warm front off to our west will begin to moderate our temperatures just in time for Christmas, but look out for the light mixed bag of precipitation starting tomorrow night.

Today: Morning clouds and perhaps a brief snow shower or flurry, but becoming partly cloudy later today. A little warmer with a high of 24. Chance of snow 25%.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and breezy, lows mid- teens.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, breezy and warmer, maybe a light mix tomorrow night, highs mid- 30s. Precip chance 30%.

Extended:
Friday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of a light mix, highs upper 30s. Precip chance 30%.
Christmas Eve: Breezy with light snow, becoming a mix at times. Highs mid- 30s. Precip chance 60%.

Wisconsin Weather Update for December 20, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:37 PM GMT on December 20, 2005

Good Tuesday morning!

Playoff Scattergories
The final week of the Autumn 2005 season begins right now! Here is the last Scattergories game of 2005! The key to an entertaining game of Scattergories is a lot of participants, so even if you're not in the playoffs, I'd love to have you play and make this last round interesting (I'm hoping for at least 20 players!) Will Tammy be able to hold onto her small lead, or will someone else charge forward to take the crown? Everyone is still mathematically possible to win, although I have a feeling that won't be the case tomorrow. Note that there will also be a game tomorrow: Wheel of Fortune. Don't say I didn't warn you, it's your own fault for not reading my intro paragraph.

Today’s forecast grade: C-

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds and light snow north and sunshine south, temps are again varied depending on cloud cover, but mostly around the single digits above zero. The exceptions: Madison and Green Bay are 11 above and it's near 10 along Lake Michigan.

Synopsis: A cold front is stretching across much of the northern Great Lakes region, producing the clouds and snow showers in northern Wisconsin. However, I'm anticipating those clouds to move more east than south, giving many of us another sunny and cold day. And if you thought the cold was bad, it could be much worse - you could be the Green Bay Packers. Ugh.

Today: Clouds and light snow showers north, some morning clouds central and sunshine south, eventually becoming mostly sunny everywhere in the state by this afternoon. High of 19.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows near 5-10 above.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and a little warmer, highs in the mid- 20s. It's also the shortest day of the year with the Winter Solstice occurring at 12:35pm. Set your alarm and bask in the time when the sun's apparent annual path is displaced farthest south from the earth's equator.

Extended:
Thursday: Increasing clouds, breezy and warmer with a light mix possible Thursday night, highs low to mid- 30s.
Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with flurries or drizzle, highs mid- to upper 30s.
Christmas Eve: Mostly cloudy, maybe a flurry, highs 35-40. A good chance of reindeer paws on your rooftop Saturday night.
Christmas Day: Mostly cloudy, maybe another flurry, highs 33-38.

Wisconsin Weather Update for December 19, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 2:10 PM GMT on December 19, 2005

Happy Monday!
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update and I hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend was very busy but enjoyable because it was spent with family.

Saturday
Saturday, I worked a few hours in the morning, and then to my surprise Steve, my mom, and my mother-in-law Bev planned a surprise belated birthday party for me. It was very nice and it was definitely an unexpected surprise. Thanks to all of my family who were there to enjoy the day with me. After the party, we went to the mall to finish up some Christmas shopping and to let Bryce meet Santa Claus for the first time (picture is below).

Sunday
Sunday after church we headed to Genesee to celebrate Christmas with my father-in-law, and step-mother-in-law Linda. We had a great time, and as always Linda made a delicious dinner. We also got some very nice gifts. Bryce enjoyed trying to unwrap his first Christmas gifts, but he was having a hard time so he got some assistance from mommy and daddy.

Bryce
Well that brings me to the baby update. About the only thing new is Bryce's world is that he can now eat the veggie and fruit puffs, and fruit/veggie wagon wheels. He can't quite put the veggie/fruit puffs in his mouth by himself yet (but he's trying!), but we put it in his mouth for him and he loves it. He still doesn't have any teeth yet, but the puffs dissolve in his mouth. And now that we have our Christmas Tree up, we moved Bryce's play blanket to the other side of the living room closer to the TV. Now, Bryce regularly finds his way over to the entertainment center and "rearranges" our VCR tapes and CDs, and also tries to clean our VCR tapes by putting his drool-covered hands inside of the tapes. How thoughtful of him. Well, that wraps up the update. Have a great week.

Curling!
As alluded to in last week Tuesday's forecast, my work unit had our annual Christmas bash at the Appleton Curling Club and we all learned how to curl for the first time! I won't get into all of the details here, since this intro is getting huge as-is, but curling is like a gigantic version of shuffleboard on ice. You shoot (slide) this 40-pound stone down the sheet (146 feet long) and try to have it stop in the house (bulls-eye). You have one shooter that slides the stone down the ice, then you have several sweepers that warm up the ice directly ahead of the stone, thus making it travel further (good sweepers can make a stone travel 20 feet further than it would otherwise). Each team gets 8 shots, then you count up the points and start again, going the other way. It was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be to get the stone to stop in the house, and I can see how it would be really addicting - we didn't want to leave! I put a few pictures below Bryce's Photos of the Week below.

Forecast:
Now: At 8am with sunshine, we have more nippy temperatures in central and southern Wisconsin that vary from 0 to almost ten below zero. Wind chills are around -20 to -30. To quote the words of New York cartoon movie critic Jay Sherman, "It stinks!"

Synopsis: A pressure gradient between a large area of high pressure centered in northern Missouri and a low pressure system in far north-central Canada is keeping us windy and cold this morning, and thanks to the lack of cloud cover, that allowed even more of our heat to escape into the Milky Way Galaxy. So look for another day of misleading sunshine with cold temperatures, but our temps should improve later this week.

Today: Sunny, blustery and cold again today. High of 18 with wind chills below zero almost all day long.

Tonight: Clear, windy and not quite as cold with lows around five above.

Tomorrow: Sunshine with decreasing winds and increasing temperatures. Yahoo! Highs low to mid- 20s.

Extended:
Wednesday: Partly cloudy, highs mid- 20s.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and warmer with a chance of flurries late, highs lower 30s.
Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a chance of light snow, flurries or drizzle. Highs upper 30s.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow, flurries or drizzle, highs 32-37.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with light snow developing late. Highs 31-36.

Today’s forecast grade: C-

Forecast:
Now: At 6am with a few light and scattered snow showers across the state, also mixing with freezing drizzle in some areas, temps are mostly right around the freezing mark.

Synopsis: The area of low pressure that developed yesterday's snow storm has still yet to enter Wisconsin, currently stalled in Minnesota. However, the frontal boundary has pushed off to our east, meaning colder temperatures and more light precipitation are on the way. Is it just me or is it amusing just how light it is outside during an evening snowstorm. You'd think the sun was still out with the clouds and snow reflecting much of the city lights.

Today: Cloudy with a light scattered mix of precipitation today, most of which will probably be flurries or freezing drizzle. It shouldn't be too big of a deal, but a lot of areas (including our cul-de-sac) still aren't plowed this morning! High of 32.

Tonight: Cloudy with scattered light snow showers or flurries. Lows near 20.

Tomorrow: More of the same. Cloudy and breezy with scattered light snow showers or flurries. Highs mid- to upper 20s.

Extended:
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, maybe a flurry, highs low to mid- 20s.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy and colder, highs upper teens to near 20.
Next Week's Outlook: It looks like a mostly dry week with the next chance of any significant snow not occurring until Christmas Eve Eve. Temperatures look to once again go below normal with highs around 20-25 for much of the week.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, highs lower 50s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Rain showers, breezy and warmer, highs lower 60s.
High surf advisory in effect until 10 PM EST this evening...

Areas of mainly light rain will continue across southern South Carolina through 9 am. A few heavier showers developing over the Atlantic Ocean...may move into parts of Charleston and Berkeley counties producing quicker 1/4 inch rainfall totals... otherwise amounts will be light...ranging from a trace to a tenth of an inch.

High pressure to the west and a low pressure system moving up the
southeast coast will create onshore winds around 30 mph Thursday.
These winds will increase seas across the coastal waters from 5 to
7 feet this morning to 7 to 10 feet this afternoon. This will
likely result in moderate to locally severe beach erosion along
the southern South Carolina shoreline... especially around times of
high tide. Breakers in the surf zone are expected to reach 4 to 6
feet late this morning through this evening.

The first round of erosion is expected to occur around high tide
this morning... which will occur at 724 am in the Charleston
Harbor... and at 838 am in Beaufort. These tides will be
especially high due to the full moon. Fortunately... the largest
waves will be during the afternoon hours... which will coincide
with a low tide. However... the evening high tide will again be
several feet above normal due to astronomical effects... and more
erosion is possible. High tides this evening will occur at 743 PM
in Charleston Harbor and at 901 PM in Beaufort. Minor ocean
overwash may also occur on Edisto Beach this evening... mainly
between the 500 and 800 blocks of Palmetto Boulevard where little
of any beach remains in the wake of Tropical Storm Tammy earlier
this year.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/SC/Hilton_Head_Island.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USSC0155

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Sunshine and a little breezy, cooler highs lower 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/TX/League_City.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX0745
http://www.wunderground.com/US/TX/Pearland.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX1029

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Morning rain showers, highs lower 40s.
Through 7 am...the focus for the heaviest rains will be over southwest Indiana and adjacent portions of west Kentucky...where up to two tenths of an inch of additional rainfall will be possible. Elsewhere across west Kentucky and in southern Illinois near the Ohio and Wabash rivers...drizzle with an occasional heavier shower can be expected. The back edge of the drizzle will slowly push eastward across west Kentucky...possible reaching the lakes by 7 am.

Good Wednesday morning!

Lisa's 30th Birthday!
Make sure you send a note to my wife Lisa today wishing her a Happy 30th Birthday! She turned 30 at 7:35am this morning, which coincidentally is about when it started snowing this morning. Personally, I cannot believe that I am married to someone that old. Oy!

Playoff Match Game Results
18 people played yesterday, and I like that some people who didn't make the playoffs are writing in with answers that they ordinarily wouldn't write in with if they were still playing for points. It adds to the overall humor value of the Match Game! And other good responses from non-playoff participants are playing "spoiler" by changing the results (half of the Pepper answers for #2 were by others not in the top ten).

Game #1: Mugsy said, "My school is so tough. The first time you're bad, you're sent to the principal's office. The second time you're bad, you're sent to the _________."
Jail/Prison/Police/Warden's office (8) - 2 points
Electric Chair (3) - 1 point
Dungeon (2)
Other answers: Nurse, Boiler room, Gas chamber, Library, Janitor's closet

Game #2: Fred said, "My parents raised me on Dr. Spock." Weird Willy said, "That's nothing, my parents raised me on Dr. ______."
Pepper (4) - 2 points
Seuss (3) - 1 point (tie)
McGillicuddy's (3) - 1 point (tie)
Kevorkian (2)
Phil (2)
Other answers: Strangelove, Jekyll, Dolittle, Ruth

Today’s forecast grade: D

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Fox Cities:
Heavy Snow Warning in effect from 9 am this morning to midnight CST tonight...
A steady light snow will overspread the region between 630 am and 8 am. Roads will become slippery once the snow begins...so motorists should use caution during the morning commute to work or school.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a Heavy Snow
Warning... which is in effect from 9 am this morning to midnight
CST tonight. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

Snow will develop across the region this morning... then become
heavy at times during the afternoon and evening. Total
accumulations of 6 to 8 inches are expected by midnight tonight.
In addition to the snow... brisk southeast winds will produce some
blowing and drifting snow.

The accumulating snow should diminish by midnight. Occasional
light snow... drizzle or freezing drizzle can be expected
overnight into Thursday morning.

Travel conditions will become hazardous across Wisconsin later
today into tonight. Persons with travel plans should closely
monitor the latest forecasts and Road conditions.

A Heavy Snow Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=GRB&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Appleton

Southern Wisconsin:
Snow Advisory in effect until 9 PM CST this evening...
Snow will continue in the Milwaukee...Waukesha...Kenosha...Fond Du Lac...Beaver Dam and Port Washington areas from 7 am to 9 am. Blustery southeast winds along with the snow will reduce the visibility to one half mile at times...especially in open areas. Snow accumulation will reach one to two inches during this time. Farther west...occasional snow is expected in the Madison... Janesville...Baraboo and Darlington areas through the morning. An additional one to two inches is likely the rest of the morning in these areas. Rapidly deteriorating travel conditions are expected this morning due to the snowfall. Slow down...and allow plenty of room between you and the vehicle ahead. A Snow Advisory remains in effect today.

Periods of snow are expected into this evening. The first batch of
significant snow is moving through southeast Wisconsin. In its
wake it has deposited one to two inches over much of south central
Wisconsin... including Madison.

This snow will continue to affect the Milwaukee... Fond Du
Lac... Sheboygan and Beaver Dam areas... with morning snowfall of
one to two inches likely.

Snow was already beginning to spread back into south central
Wisconsin from eastern Iowa. The snow is expected to become
widespread across the area during the early afternoon and continue
into the evening. Total snowfall of 3 to 4 inches is likely
today... with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible tonight.

Some cities included in the Snow Advisory are Milwaukee...
Madison... Janesville... Fond Du Lac... Kenosha and the Wisconsin
Dells.

The snow is expected to be wet and heavy... therefore despite
blustery southeast winds... widespread blowing and drifting is not
expected to be a problem.

Be prepared for deteriorating travel conditions this morning.
Slow down... and allow plenty of extra room between you and the
vehicle ahead. Do not overexert yourself while shoveling the
heavy wet snow.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine and breezy, highs mid- 50s.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Increasing clouds and breezy with isolated showers possible and a better chance of rain tonight and tomorrow. Highs lower 50s.
Freeze warning in effect until 9 am EST this morning...
Cold conditions continue to be reported this morning. Freezing
temperatures have occurred at the Airport in North Charleston while
Goose Creek and Summerville are currently in the upper 20s. The
best chances for freezing temperatures will occur roughly along
and west of Highway 17... which includes the communities of North
Charleston... Ravenel... Adams Run... Wiggins and Gardens Corner.
Temperatures closer to the coast... including downtown Charleston
and Hilton Head are only expected to drop into the upper 30s to
lower 40s. Inland temperatures will rise above freezing by 9 am.

... Moderate beach erosion expected for the beaches of south
coastal South Carolina late tonight into Thursday...

A strong area of high pressure will remain entrenched over the
inland Carolinas through Thursday while a low pressure system
developing in the Gulf of Mexico moves northeast across Florida
and along the southeast coast. This will create strong onshore
winds late tonight into Thursday along with building seas that
will likely cause moderate beach erosion along the south coastal
South Carolina shoreline. Northeast winds of 15 to 20 knots today
will become easterly tonight then southeast on Thursday and
increase to 20 to 25 knots. Seas will increase from 4 to 6 ft
tonight to 5 to 7 ft tomorrow... thereby creating conditions for
moderate beach erosion especially around times of high tide.

High tides Thursday morning will occur at... 724 am in Charleston
Harbor... and at 838 am in Beaufort. These tides are within an
astronomical high tide cycle.

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Showers and thunderstorms likely, some could be severe, breezy with highs near 70.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX1029

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Rain showers likely this morning, then scattered showers this afternoon. Breezy, highs lower 40s.
Through 9 am...areas of rain and snow will diminish from west to east over parts of southern Illinois and southwest Indiana. Until then...the heaviest snow will occur north of Interstate 64 in southwest Indiana and the Wabash valley...where a quick inch or two of snow and sleet will accumulate. Some roads will be slick and hazardous. Use extra caution while travelling early this morning. The back edge of the steady snow and rain was along a line from Fairfield to Harrisburg Illinois at 615 am...moving east at 40 mph.

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Fox Cities:
Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night...
The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a Winter
Storm Watch... which is in effect from Wednesday morning through
late Wednesday night.

Snow will increase across the region Wednesday morning... and may
become moderate to heavy at times Wednesday afternoon and night.
Although there is still some uncertainty about snowfall amounts...
current indications suggest totals of 5 to 9 inches across most of
central and northeast Wisconsin. Gusty southeast winds will
produce extensive blowing and drifting snow... especially in the
Fox Valley and Lakeshore areas. The snow and wind should taper off
late Wednesday night as the low pressure system gradually weakens.

Persons with midweek travel plans across Wisconsin should prepare
for hazardous driving conditions.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow and blowing snow that may impact travel. Continue to monitor
the latest forecasts and statements concerning this potentially
hazardous winter storm.

Southern Wisconsin:
Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night...
Snow is expected to overspread south central and southeast
Wisconsin Wednesday morning... and continue into Wednesday evening
before beginning to taper off. Snowfall of 4 to 6 inches is
likely... with the potential for greater than 6 inches of snowfall.

Cities included in the watch are Milwaukee... Madison... Janesville...
Fond Du Lac... Kenosha and the Wisconsin Dells.

A Winter Storm Watch is issued when heavy snow... sleet... or
freezing rain is expected to accumulate to levels that will cause
major impacts to Commerce and society. Continue to monitor the
latest forecasts for updates and possible warnings. Travel
conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate during the day
Wednesday.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds and a few flurries here and there, temps are just above 20.

Synopsis: A very weak area of low pressure is centered in the U.P. of Michigan, but all it's really doing is generating some clouds and flurries. The much more interesting system is building in southern Alberta this morning, which will make travel a real hoot tomorrow.

Today: Mostly cloudy with increasing winds later today. A perfect day to ditch work and go curling! High of 28.

Tonight: Cloudy and windy with snow developing to our west. Lows not too cold overnight, in the lower 20s.

Tomorrow: Cloudy and blustery with snow likely, heavy at times. The snow will continue overnight but should eventually decrease in intensity. 3-6" south, 4-8" central are likely by the time you wake up Thursday morning, which is definitely enough to get the snow blower running. This will be the first major snowstorm of the year for much of Wisconsin. Highs upper 20s to lower 30s.

Extended:
Thursday: Cloudy and still windy with light snow showers, maybe another inch or so of accumulation. Look for some fun blowing snow too. Highs near 30.
Friday: Cloudy and breezy with flurries. Highs mid- to upper 20s.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, still breezy, and yes, still some flurries. Highs 25-30.
Sunday: Partly sunny and colder, highs 18-23.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine, highs near 60.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Sunshine and breezy, highs mid- 50s.

Cold temperatures are expected for tonight... with inland areas
dropping at or below freezing in the early morning hours. Freezing
temperatures will likely occur away from the immediate
coast... including the communities of North
Charleston... Ravenel... Wiggins... and Gardens Corner. Freezing
temperatures may be possible in Beaufort... but will not occur in
downtown Charleston. Temperatures will rise above freezing by 9
am.

Wisconsin Weather Update for December 12, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:52 PM GMT on December 12, 2005

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend update, and I hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend was pretty relaxing. On Thursday evening, Steve went to the Skyline Comedy Cafe in Appleton as his friend Clair won free tickets to the show. Several funny comedians performed, and funnyman Bil Dwyer was the featured comic. Steve had a great time, and I had a great time too even though I stayed home to take care of Bryce.

Friday, we went to Steve's Thrivent Financial Holiday Party. We had a good time, did a little dancing, talked to some nice people, and ate way too much fried food!

Saturday, I went into work for a few hours per the 6-hour "mandatory" overtime rules through the end of the year, then we spent the rest of the day at home doing chores and watching DVDs.

Sunday, we went to church in the morning (we were assigned to greet before the service and Steve helped with the offering, taking the more-challenging middle aisle for the first time!). Afterwards, Steve did a little shopping, then we caught up on some more things at home. Steve was keeping an eye on the NFL games as both of his fantasy football teams made the playoffs this year, so he's excited about that. And the Packers finally won a close game - who would have thought?

Well that wraps up our weekend. Not much has changed with Bryce since last week. He's just getting more adorable and handsome with each passing day. He's also becoming more entertained by his toys every day, and will grab pretty much anything within reach at this point. I hope you all have a great week and I'll be back next week.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with a cloud/sun mix and a few flurries scattered throughout the state, temps are really varying depending on if you're under clouds or sunshine. Appleton is +7 while Green Bay is -2, Waukesha is +7 while Watertown is +1, and Madison is +3 while Lone Rock is -7.

Synopsis: There's a weak area of high pressure to our northeast and a weak frontal boundary moving through Minnesota this morning. That's why we have more sunshine east than west this morning, and look for clouds and light snow showers or flurries to eventually cover the state later today. I'm only expecting a dusting from this appetizer, with the main course coming later on Wednesday and into Thursday.

Today: Becoming mostly cloudy with scattered light snow showers or flurries possible. Little if any accumulation. High of 26.

Tonight: Becoming partly cloudy, lows mid- teens.

Tomorrow: Increasing clouds and winds, highs near 30.

Extended:
Wednesday: Cloudy and windy with snow developing. The National Weather Service is considering an advisory as several inches of snow are probable. Highs near 30.
Thursday: Cloudy and windy with more snow, but becoming more scattered later in the day. If I had to guess, I'd say 3-6" by Thursday evening, which means our snow blower might get its first action of the season. Highs upper 20s to near 30.
Friday: Cloudy and still windy with light snow showers or flurries. Highs upper 20s to near 30.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, highs 21-26.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, maybe a few flurries, highs 22-27.

TGIF!

Playoff Mad Gab Results
It was a no-tolerance Mad Gab Thursday where every answer had to match what was on the back of the card in order to receive credit. However, I don't take off for spelling mistakes, which is good news for the two people who misspelled Santa Claus (one of which apparently has been watching too many Tim Allen movies!)

Mad Gab #1 (14/14): Sand Tackle Laws =
Santa Claus

Mad Gab #2 (14/14): Dawned Hey Guinea Chants His =
Don't take any chances

Mad Gab #3 (13/14): These Pooh Keep Heart Sew Fur =
The spooky part's over

Autumn 2005 Playoff Standings (2 of 7 games played):
Not much change in the standings, as all ten playoff participants deeply considered and submitted answers to the games (except the two that misspelled good ol' St. Nick ). Next up is Match Game: Sentence Version, which should shake up the standings a bit.

Katie/Bart, Mukwonago, WI: 9 (+3)
Tammy, Madison, WI: 9 (+3)
Bethany: 8 (+3)
Karl, Appleton, WI: 8 (+3)
Barb, Berlin, WI: 7 (+3)
Becky T.: 7 (+3)
Lisa, Appleton, WI: 6 (+2)
Nia, Appleton, WI: 6 (+3)
Sheila, Appleton, WI: 6 (+3)
Brian, Madison WI: 5 (+3)

What do you think of my new playoff format? [13 votes total] (look for another poll next week)
It made the season more exciting! (6) 46%
I understand it, I just didn't like it! (3) 23%
It made the season more confusing! (2) 15%
I like the idea, but it needs some fine tuning. (2) 15%

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Look for bands of low clouds...and a few flurries...during the morning rush hour. One band...extending from Sheboygan to Lake Geneva... will drop southeast and clear fat southeast Kenosha County by 9 am. A second band from near Oxford...through The Dells to Mineral Point will cross the remainder of south central Wisconsin between 545 am and 9 am. This band appears to be shrinking as it moves southeast around 15 mph. The leading edge of this cloud band will reach a Fond Du Lac to Janesville line around 9 am if it holds together. Early commuters should be alert for slippery and snow covered roads from last nights snow...until Road crews have a chance to clear them. Where roads have been plowed and treated...temperatures in the teens early this morning could lead to some freezing of Road surfaces that may be wet from the salt spreading. Bridges and ramps will be likely to ice up. Motorists are urged to slow down...and maintain extra stopping distance between vehicles.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Madison

Forecast:
Now: At 8am with sunshine east and west and a few clouds central, temps are near 10-15 above. Well isn't that just terrific.

Synopsis: The area of low pressure that developed all that snow in Illinois and southern Wisconsin has moved off to bother the east coast instead. High pressure to our south should dominate our weather today, so look for a mix of sun and clouds along with more below-average temperatures. The average high for today is 31 central, 32 south and the last time we were above 30 was November 29!

Today: Partly cloudy and breezy, high of 26.

Tonight: Breezy with increasing clouds overnight. Lows mid- teens.

Saturday: Cloudy and breezy with a chance of light snow or flurries. An inch or less of accumulation is expected at this time. Highs upper 20s to near 30.

Sunday: Cloudy and not as breezy with maybe a few flurries. Big deal. Highs mid- 20s.

Next Week:
Monday: Cloudy and warmer, maybe more light snow, flurries, or even drizzle. Highs 32-37.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, highs 31-36.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with snow developing late. This one might be worth keeping an eye on. Highs 28-33.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, mid- 50s today and upper 50s this weekend.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Maybe a morning shower, then decreasing clouds and breezy, highs upper 50s. Sunshine and near 60 this weekend.
Frost advisory in effect from 1 am to 9 am EST Saturday...
Cold high pressure will build into the region tonight providing
mainly clear skies and light winds. This will set the stage for
temperatures to fall into the low to mid 30s and allow for the
formation of scattered to widespread frost. This includes
communities mainly west of Interstate 17 in Charleston County such
as Awendaw... Mount Pleasant and Ravenel as well as
Wiggins... Gardens Corner and Levy farther south. A freeze warning
may be needed if temperatures are a few degrees cooler.
High surf advisory in effect until 9 am EST this morning...
Gusty southeast winds briefly reached gale force after midnight
along the coast and beach erosion likely reoccurred around high
tide overnight with significant onshore wave action.
A developing area of low pressure east of Charleston early this
morning will rapidly move northeast of the area prior to sunrise
allowing winds to shift offshore in its wake. This should allow
for decreasing seas near the coast and a diminishing threat for
high surf and beach erosion today.
The high surf advisory will remain in effect through mid morning
as waves begin to subside from 7 to 10 ft... to 6 ft or less by
midday. Higher seas will persist over the outer waters beyond 20
nm.

Today’s forecast grade: C-

Forecast:
Now: At 7am, clouds cover much of the state and southwestern Wisconsin has light snow. Temps are mostly above zero, which is an improvement, but not much.

Synopsis: A low pressure system is building in the southern Mississippi Valley, which is spreading clouds and precipitation all the way up to southwestern Wisconsin this morning. Look for the snow to gradually cover the southern half of Wisconsin today with less than 1" of accumulation central, 1-2" south, and heavier amounts the farther south you live.

Today: Mostly cloudy with light snow developing from southwest to northeast. High of 20.

Tonight: Light snow ending this evening with decreasing clouds and increasing winds overnight. 1-2" of total accumulation south, less than an inch central. Lows near 10 above zero.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, windy and a little warmer, highs low to mid- 20s.

Extended:
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, warmer and still windy with light snow developing late, but this time heavier the further north you live. Highs near 30.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with flurries. Highs upper 20s.
Next Week's Outlook: Another Alberta Clipper might generate some light snow Tuesday night, otherwise it looks mostly dry with seasonable temperatures around 25-35, which is a lot better than what we had this week!

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Mostly cloudy, highs lower 50s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Breezy with rain, highs mid- 50s.
Widespread mainly light rain will continue over extreme southern South Carolina and much of southeast Georgia through 9 am. Rainfall amounts will mainly be less than a tenth of an inch...with the exception of some locations south of Interstate 16 in Georgia... that may pick up a quarter to half of an inch.

High surf advisory in effect from 9 am this morning to 9 am EST Friday...
The combination of a strong wedge of high pressure digging south
over the inland Carolinas... and a developing area of low pressure
in the northeast Gulf of Mexico... will produce a strong onshore
flow through tonight.

Winds will be northeast to east 25 or 30 kt with gusts to 35 kt
into tonight across the South Carolina coastal waters. This will
cause seas in the nearby Atlantic to build as high as 8 to 9 ft
through tonight.

Beach erosion will likely occur... especially around times of high
tide. High tide will occur this afternoon in the Charleston
Harbor at 1:38 PM and at Beaufort at 2:55 PM.

In addition... the onshore flow and large surf will create an
elevated risk of rip currents at area beaches. Swimmers and
surfers are urged to remain cautious if they enter the surf... and
may want to refrain from entering the water altogether.

Although no coastal flooding is expected at this time... tide
levels will reach at least 1 foot above predicted values Thursday
and Thursday night.

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Decreasing clouds, breezy and much colder, highs only in the lower 40s. Wisconsin would be very happy for lower 40s right about now.

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Snow, 2-5" expected, highs lower 30s.
Very light wintry mix will slowly move through the area early this morning before changing over to all snow. Snow mixed with sleet will be the main precipitation west of the Mississippi River this morning before changing over to all snow around sunrise. Snow mixed with sleet rain and freezing rain will be predominant in west Kentucky before changing over to snow after sunrise. The main area of precipitation was along and just north of the Tennessee and Arkansas borders moving north at 30 mph. Precipitation rates through 8 am will be very light.

Winter Storm Warning in effect until 8 PM CST...
Wintry precipitation will spread rapidly north and east
from Arkansas... southern Missouri and western Tennessee... into
the region this morning. Snow and sleet is expected across
portions of west Kentucky this morning... along with a chance of
freezing rain. Mainly snow is expected across the Evansville
tri state by mid morning. Accumulations are expected to average
1 to 3 inches. Isolated 5 inch amounts will be possible across
the Evansville tri state. The precipitation should taper off by
this evening... and end as a period of light freezing drizzle
or very light snow.

Today’s forecast grade: C-

Forecast:
Now: At 7am we have sunshine mixed with some low clouds and isolated snow showers in far northern Wisconsin. Temps are very chilly once again, between zero and five below! Interestingly enough, the warm spot in Wisconsin is Ashland, where it's a balmy 20 degrees above zero with a Lake Effect Snow Warning.

Synopsis: A weak area of low pressure centered near Mackinac Island isn't really doing a whole lot except helping to bring in all the cold air from Canada we've been experiencing lately. As it moves to the east and high pressure moves in, we'll eventually see a wind shift which will bring in warmer temperatures by Friday. An Alberta Clipper low pressure system may generate a few light snow showers this weekend.

Today: Partly cloudy and still quite cold. High of 14.

Tonight: Increasing clouds, lows zero to five above.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow showers or flurries south. Illinois will probably get several inches of snow from this new system. Slightly warmer with highs upper teens to near 20.

Extended:
Friday: Partly cloudy, breezy and warmer, highs mid- 20s.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and windy with light snow showers possible. Highs 27-32. Snow chance 40%.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with maybe some flurries. Highs 29-34.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, highs upper 50s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Increasing clouds and breezy, a chance of rain tonight, highs upper 50s.
Frost advisory in effect until 9 am EST this morning...
Light winds and mainly clear skies have allowed temperatures to
fall into the mid 30s away from the immediate coast this
morning... resulting in scattered frost.
The risk for scattered frost will be greatest along and west of a
line from Levy to Beaufort... Wiggins... Johns Island and Awendaw.
This includes the communities of Gardens Corner... Adams Run...
Ravenel... Hollywood... west Ashley... North Charleston and
Whitehall Terrace. Only patchy frost is expected in downtown
Charleston and those locations near marshy areas. People with
agricultural interests should take action to protect outside
vegetation... if they have not done so already.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/SC/Hilton_Head_Island.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USSC0155

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Breezy with rain likely, highs upper 50s.
Through 930 am...the first in a series of patches of light rain will pass through the region. Rainfall accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch will be possible through mainly north of the Interstate 10 corridor.

http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX0745
http://www.wunderground.com/US/TX/Pearland.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX1029

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Partly cloudy, highs lower 30s.
Snow Advisory in effect from 6 am to 6 PM CST Thursday...
Snow is expected to develop across the region on Thursday. Many
areas could receive up to 1 inch of snow during the day. 2 to
perhaps 3 inches of accumulation is possible across portions of
southeast Illinois... southwest Indiana and the pennyrile region of
western Kentucky... before the snow tapers off by early Thursday
evening.
A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily
travel difficulties. On Thursday... be prepared for snow covered
roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

Today’s forecast grade: C-

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine mixed with a few clouds south, temps are even colder than they were yesterday morning - near zero south but near five below zero central!

Synopsis: St. Nicholas put a bundle of coal in our stockings last night...not to be rude, but to keep us warm at night! There is some hope though - temperatures look to climb a few degrees each day through this weekend. And if we continue at that pace, it'll be in the 80s by Christmas.

Today: Sunshine and cold this morning but becoming partly sunny later today with a few flurries possible this afternoon. High of 9 central, lower teens south. Single digit high temperatures - ugh.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows near 0.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy and a little warmer, highs 15-20.

Extended:
Thursday: Mostly cloudy and warmer yet, maybe a few flurries, highs 20-25.
Friday: Partly cloudy, highs 23-28.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with light snow or flurries possible. Highs 29-34.
Sunday: Partly sunny, highs 32-37.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Sunshine and breezy, highs upper 50s.
Freeze watch in effect from late tonight through Wednesday morning...
Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop to
freezing away from the beaches late tonight as high pressure
builds into the area. This may result in a light freeze for
locations east of Highway 17 that have yet to see a freeze so far
this fall. This includes but is not limited to the communities of
Levy... Beaufort... Rockville... Johns Island... James Island... Mount
Pleasant and McClellanville.

Wisconsin Weather Update for December 5, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 2:00 PM GMT on December 05, 2005

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update, and I hope you all had a great weekend. We had another fun and somewhat busy weekend. Friday evening, we went out ballroom dancing with our friends Jason and Nicole. This was our first time out dancing since Bryce was born so we were a little rusty. We had a great time though.

Saturday, I did a little Christmas shopping in the morning, and then we spent the afternoon at home. Saturday evening we went to our friends and now new neighbors John and Liz's housewarming party. We then went with our friends Jason and Nicole to the WPS Garden of Lights at the Green Bay Botanical Gardens. It was an awesome light display. Bryce seemed to enjoy the lights too.

Sunday, Steve and I separately each did a little Christmas shopping, and then we spent the rest of day at home.

Not much new for Bryce except that he is now trying very hard to hold his bottle by himself. He can do it for about 30 seconds before it falls. Well, that wraps up my update, have a great week.

Update Playoffs Begin Tomorrow
Over the weekend, there were no point changes to the top ten, so the results as you saw them on Friday are now official. The playoffs begin tomorrow with Family Feud, and even if didn't make the top ten, I'd love to have you play anyway, just for fun (as compared to usual!)

Today’s forecast grade: D+

Forecast:
Now: At 8am with a clear sky and nippy temperatures, most of us have no degrees to our name. You read that right - zippo. Zilch. Nada. But it could be worse - if you're measuring the current temp in Celsius, it would be -18, and if you factor in wind chill, it's -13 Fahrenheit or -25 Celsius!

Synopsis: Behind the system that developed all that snow across Illinois and far southern Wisconsin this weekend, we have a strong trough in the upper-air jet stream which is pushing the coldest weather of the season thus far into Wisconsin. Look for a few more clouds and flurries developing, too.

Today: Sunshine and cold this morning with a few more clouds and isolated snow showers developing by this afternoon. High of 13 central, mid- teens south.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, maybe some light snow showers or flurries. I would expect nothing more than a dusting. Lows near zero.

Tomorrow: More of the same - mostly cloudy and cold with maybe some flurries. Highs low to mid- teens.

Extended:
Wednesday: Partly sunny and "warmer", highs near 20.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy, highs near 20.
Friday: Partly cloudy and windy, highs mid- 20s.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and windy, maybe some flurries, highs 29-34.

Weather in the News:

The power of spin
Harnessing artificial tornadoes as an energy source
WEATHER systems, as the world has recently been reminded, have awesome power. The energy released by a large hurricane can exceed the energy consumption of the human race for a whole year, and even an average tornado has a power similar to that of a large power station. If only mankind could harness that energy, rather than being at its mercy. Louis Michaud, a Canadian engineer who works at a large oil company, believes he has devised a way to do just that, by generating artificial whirlwinds that can be controlled and harnessed. He calls his invention the “atmospheric vortex engine”.

Autumn 2005 Final Regular Season Point Standings (31 people played this week and 40 this season)
The top player this season will win a fabulous weather-related prize (if not a previous winner).
Note that these are unofficial results. If I goofed up when calculating anyone's points, let me know and I will reevaluate the results and share any changes on Monday.
^ = moved above the cut line this week.
-- = moved below the cut line this week.

Congratulations to the ten people below who made the cut and are eligible to play in the first-ever update playoffs beginning on Tuesday! To the 30 others who played my games this season, thank you very much for participating, better luck next year (literally) and know that I encourage everyone to play along during the playoffs (since you guys are presumably playing just for fun, right!). However, I will only be calculating the results for the top ten during this time.

Congrats also goes to my cousin-in-law Tammy, who was the only one to score all 24 possible points this week! This almost doubled her total for the year, and boosted her up to fifth place! Barb, Tammy, and all three of my sisters: Katie, Bethany, and Kelley, were the only people to get all eight points for Scattergories on Tuesday. Barb was in the lead after Scattergories, Katie took the lead after Rather, and Karl made it to the top of the list thanks to his alphabetically first name after yesterday's Match Game. Also of note is that five of the ten people from last week's top ten are now on the outside looking in. I told you double points week would be exciting!

The top ten as you see them below will enter the three-week, seven-game playoffs beginning on Tuesday. The results as you see them below will be erased and the second five will start out at zero; however, the top five will enter the playoffs with a small two-point advantage. The person with the most points after each game has been played once will be crowned champion for Autumn 2005 and receive a cool weather-related prize to be determined at the conclusion of the playoffs.

What do you think of my new Weather Update Games format? Does the season/playoffs format make it more interesting and fun, or too confusing and geeky? I'll be posting some polls over the next few weeks to see how I can refine this system and make it better for you guys, but in the meantime, if you have any comments or suggestions regarding the season or anything else, please let me know on the message board!

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Fox Cities:
snow expected to continue this morning... At 600 am...snow had overspread the entire area. The snow will continue for the rest of the morning. Through 800 am...the most significant snows will affect mainly areas south of Highway 29. Visibilities in that area will fall as lows as 1 mile at times. The snow will be lighter farther to the north. Since temperatures across the entire area were well below freezing... untreated roadways were snow covered and slippery. Be sure to allow extra time for the morning commute.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=GRB&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Appleton

Southern Wisconsin:
Light snow was falling over southern Wisconsin. The most intense snowfall was indicated over Waukesha...Milwaukee...Racine and Kenosha counties. The area of snow was moving to the northeast around 15 mph. Visibilities ranged from three quarters of a mile to around 2 miles. Light snow will continue through the morning hours but is expected to begin to diminish west of Madison by 9 am. Motorists can expect slippery driving conditions during the rush hour on untreated roads.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with light snow across the eastern half of Wisconsin and just some flurries west of that, temps are mostly near 20 but warmer near Lake Michigan.

Synopsis: Get out your Advent calendars because December has arrived, and it's easy to tell that the first Meteorological day of winter is here just by looking out your window! Low pressure centered in Missouri is moving east-northeast, spreading snow across the western Great Lakes. Look for the snow to taper off to flurries in a few hours time, from west to east, but most of us will have 2-3" of fresh powder on the ground by the time the storm ends. Safe travels everyone!

Today: Windy at times with morning snow diminishing to flurries and eventually ending by around lunchtime, give or take a couple hours depending on your location across the state and when you eat lunch. 2-3" of total accumulation is likely. High of 25.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds but still windy, lows lower teens.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy with decreasing winds, highs low to mid- 20s.

Extended:
Saturday: Maybe a morning flurry, otherwise partly sunny, highs low to mid- 20s.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, highs lower 20s.
Next Week's Outlook: The good news first: I don't see any major snowstorms on the horizon. Now the bad news: temperatures are looking mighty nippy with highs only around 20 expected. I thought today was the first day of December, not January.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Partly cloudy, highs mid- 60s.
... Las Vegas records second warmest November on record...
The average temperature for November was 59.3 degrees which was the
second warmest on record. The warmest November was 59.8 degrees set
in 1995.
The average low temperature for November 2005 was 49.2 degrees which
was the warmest on record. This broke the previous record of 48.2
degrees set in 2001.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Sunshine, highs lower 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/SC/Hilton_Head_Island.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USSC0155

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Scattered showers, breezy, highs upper 60s.
Scattered showers along a fast moving cold front will continue to push east-southeast at 25 mph. Rainfall amounts will remain light...generally around a tenth of an inch or less.
