Wisconsin Weather Update for November 28, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:06 PM GMT on November 28, 2005

Happy Monday morning,
This is Lisa with our weekend update and I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. Our weekend was very busy and fun. On Thanksgiving Day we did a lot of travelling. We first visited with my aunt and uncle at their house in Menasha. My dad was there for Thanksgiving and he wanted to spend some time with Bryce. We had a very nice visit, then headed down to Milwaukee to visit with Steve's grandparents, his mom, and his aunt Pat, where we had the first of two Thanksgiving dinners. Afterwards, it was on to Steve's dad's house for our second Thanksgiving dinner. Dinner was delicious and it was nice to spend the whole day with various members of our family. Bryce was able to spend lots of time with his relatives, and he was given lots of attention.

Friday we went shopping in the morning, missed out on most of the early deals since we got up late after not getting home until almost 1am, then we spent the remainder of the day catching up on things at home.

Saturday was another day of travel. We headed down to Madison to spend some time visiting with our friends Dan and Lin who were in town from Las Vegas, and our friend Mike from near Chicago. We enjoyed visiting with them, and this was each of their first times meeting Bryce, so once again he received lots of attention. Saturday evening, Mike headed back home to Chicago, and Dan and Lin came back to Appleton with us for a tasty dinner at Texas Roadhouse. They don't have Texas Roadhouse in Las Vegas, so they wanted to be able to eat there before going home.

On Sunday, after a wonderful lunch at Victoria's, Dan and Lin went on their way to visit more of their friends before they go back home to Las Vegas. Then Steve and I spent the remainder of our day at home with Bryce. Steve watched the Packer game - they lost yet again and are now 2-9 and are guaranteed a losing season for the first time under Brett Favre. He thinks it's pretty crazy that for the first time in NFL history, a 2-9 team has actually outscored their opponents over the course of the season to this point. A huge blowout win and six losses of five points or less will do that!

Well that wraps up our weekend update. I don't have much for a baby update this week, except that Bryce is getting much more interested in his toys and other objects. He likes to grab anything he can reach and put them in his mouth. He also really enjoyed all the attention he got from family and friends this weekend, but by yesterday he was a little fussy from all the activity. Well, I better let Steve get to the update, since Bryce is on my lap and he's starting to let me know that's he's hungry. Have a great week.

Game Notes:
This is just a reminder that this is the last week of regular season games for the Autumn 2005 season. There will be three games this week, including Wednesday, and will be worth twice the normal amount. The top ten, to be announced this Friday, advance to the three-week playoffs where each game will be played once to determine a winner, and the top five get a two-point head start. During these three playoff weeks leading up to Christmas, I still encourage everyone to play and email me your answers, especially for the voting games like Feud, Scattergories, etc., but I will only be tallying points for those that make it above the line. The Winter 2005-2006 season will begin after the new year.

Point standings on a Wednesday? What is this world coming to? Congrats to the three players who got the number one answer to all three games yesterday: Greg, Jason and John E. Next week is a three-game, double points week which will decide who plays in the three-week playoffs. The top ten (plus ties) make it in, and the top five (plus ties) get an extra two points to start the playoffs! Everyone with nine points and up are mathematically possible to make it into the top ten! It should be an exciting finish! Have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend everyone!

Today’s forecast grade: D

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Fox Cities:
Wind Advisory in effect from 9 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Thursday...
Northwest winds are expected to increase to 25 to 35 mph with
locally higher gusts to 45 mph this evening behind a strong cold
front.
A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Light snow will continue to affect east central Wisconsin through the mid morning hours. Expect snow accumulations to range from 1 to 2 inches by the time the snow begins to let up by late morning. Motorists are urged to slow down to a safe speed as roadways will be slippery due to the snow. Allow plenty of time to reach your destination.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=GRB&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Appleton

Southern Wisconsin:
Wind Advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 am CST Thursday...
Strong northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are
expected tonight. The winds should diminish to just below Wind
Advisory levels on Thanksgiving day... but it will still be very
windy. A much colder Canadian airmass will also blast through the
area tonight with wind chill readings by Thursday morning dropping
into the -5 to -10 degree range.
A Wind Advisory is issued when winds of 35 mph or greater are
expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...
especially for high profile vehicles. Secure loose items in the
yard such as lawn furniture and garbage cans. Use caution while
outdoors.

Snow will continue to reduce visibility to between one and two miles during the morning rush hour across southeast Wisconsin. The snow was beginning to taper off west of a line from Montello to Madison to Brodhead. This diminishing trend will continue to spread east this morning. Total snow accumulations of around 2 inches are expected. This will cause some slippery spots and stretches on area roads...especially on more secondary...untreated surfaces. Be very careful on bridges where deck surfaces may be icy until temperatures rise above the freezing mark this morning.

Forecast:
Now: With snow across the eastern half of Wisconsin and just clouds in the western half, temps are in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Synopsis: As you may have already noticed this morning, we've got an Alberta Clipper making the roads quite the pain in the you-know-what this morning. This light snow is being generated by a fast moving low pressure system to our north, and while the snow will be ending in the next few hours, strong winds associated with the system will bring the coldest air of the season so far to our area tomorrow and Friday.

Today: Snow likely this morning, tapering off to drizzle or flurries and eventually ending by around lunchtime. But no, taking an early lunch will not make the snow stop any quicker. 1-2" of total storm accumulation is expected. Becoming windy later today with a high of 35 central, near 40 south.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, very windy and quite chilly behind a cold front, lows only 10-15 above zero, wind chills below zero.

Thanksgiving: A great day to stay inside and stuff yourself with lots of tasty turkey. Partly sunny, windy and cold, highs in the lower 20s.

This Weekend:
Shopping Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with light snow developing later in the day. Highs in the low to mid- 20s. Snow chance Friday night 40%.
Saturday: Morning flurries, then partly sunny and warmer, highs 35-40.
Sunday: Cloudy and breezy with a rain/snow mix developing later in the day. Highs 35-40. Precip chance 50%. Keep an eye on this storm system from Sunday evening through Tuesday as it could be quite interesting.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 22, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:53 PM GMT on November 22, 2005

Good Tuesday morning!

Triple Feud Tuesday
Because there will be no games on Thursday or Friday (or updates for that matter), I've decided to bump up today's Feud to three games instead of two. Give me the most popular answer to each for two points a piece, with the second most popular answer getting one point each. Updated point standings will appear in tomorrow's issue, then next week is the 3-game, double point week which will ultimately decide the ten playoff contestants. Let the fun continue...

Topic #1: Name a scent car air fresheners come in.

Topic #2: Besides turkey, something on the Thanksgiving table.

Topic #3: Name a famous Andy.

Today’s forecast grade: C+

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine in Wisconsin and clouds in Minnesota, temps are in the lower 20s central and mid- 20s south. Brrr!

Synopsis: Here's another wintry weather term: Alberta Clipper. That's what we have to worry about tonight and tomorrow, as a new area of low pressure and its associated frontal boundary sweep down from west-central Canada and generate a quick round of snow showers tonight and tomorrow. I don't think it'll be enough to make me turn on the snowblower, but it might make for a slippery drive to work on Wednesday. All the more reason to just say forget it and make it a five-day weekend.

Today: Sunshine early but increasing clouds later today. Colder with a high of 36 central, upper 30s south.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with light snow likely. I'm thinking there will be about 1" of snow on the ground when you wake up. Lows upper 20s. Chance of snow 80%.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy and windy with light rain or snow tapering off to flurries or drizzle by around lunchtime. Total storm accumulation 1-2". Highs mid- 30s central, near 40 south. Precip chance 70%.

Extended:
Thanksgiving: Mostly cloudy, windy and really cold with a few flurries from time to time. Highs only in the low to mid- 20s! Chance of tasty food 100%.
Shopping Friday: Mostly cloudy, not as windy but still really cold with maybe a flurry. Highs mid- to upper 20s. Chance of excellent sales that will be sold out by the time you get to the store, 99.95%.
Saturday: Partly sunny and a little warmer, highs lower 30s.
Sunday: Partly cloudy and warmer, highs near 40.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine, highs lower 70s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Decreasing clouds but very windy, highs upper 50s.
High Wind Warning in effect until 10 am EST this morning...
West winds of 35 mph with occasional gusts to 50 mph will
continue across the coastal areas of southern South Carolina and
southeast Georgia through mid morning. Many reports of trees and
power lines being blown down have been reported to the National
Weather Service overnight... and the risk for additional damage will
continue through 10 am. Winds are expected to diminish later this
morning.

Motorists... especially those driving high profile vehicles... are
remain alert for strong winds through mid morning Tuesday. Winds
will be particularly high on elevated bridges such as the Arthur
Ravenel bridge and the Talmadge Memorial bridge.

Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop to
near freezing late tonight. A hard freeze is not expected at this
time... however those with agricultural interests should make
preparations for freezing conditions today.

This is a potentially dangerous situation. Stay tuned to NOAA
Weather Radio all hazards... TV or your local news source for
later statements from the National Weather Service in Charleston.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 21, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 2:01 PM GMT on November 21, 2005

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend update, and I hope you all had a great weekend. We didn't have too much going on this weekend, which was nice for a change, especially since we'll be busy with the upcoming holidays. As Steve preluded to at the bottom of his Friday update, we went to go see the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Extravaganza at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay. Their 18-piece big band put on a great show and got us in the pre-Thanksgiving Christmas spirit.
Friday evening we went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse with our friends Clair and Becky, and Becky's mom. Following dinner, we went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which was book four of the series. Everyone seemed to enjoy the movie, but it must have been too late of a show for me as I slept through most of it. But I read the book so I already knew how it ended.
Saturday, I had to go into work for a couple of hours, but other than that we spent Saturday relaxing at home. It was nice to spend some quality time together as a family.
Sunday after church, we went to Wal-Mart to have family pictures taken, and to pick up the pictures we took a few weeks ago of Bryce (see below). We did some chores inside and outside the house, then we relaxed in the evening with the TiVo, PlayStation 2, and our new toy, the Nintendo DS. Steve got a Metroid Pinball game and I play Nintendogs, a virtual dog game where you own and take care of dogs just like you would a real dog, including feeding, walking, playing, and yes, even picking up after good ol' number two. You can use the stylus to pet the dogs, and it even has a microphone built-in so you can teach them tricks by speaking to the dogs and they will (usually) listen and obey. It's a lot of fun and addicting.
Well, that wraps up our weekend update. Not much is new with Bryce this week - he's drinking his bottles quicker now (10-20 minutes for a mixed 5 oz. formula, cereal and fruit bottle, and he occasionally even holds the bottle on his own for a few seconds), the spoon feedings are still going pretty well, and we have introduced him to the likes of Barney and "Between the Lions", which he seems to enjoy (he sometimes tries to interact with the characters as well). Have a great week and I'll be back next week.

Today’s forecast grade: C+

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds east and sunshine west, temps are mostly in the mid- 30s.

Synopsis: A strong area of low pressure well into northwestern Quebec is still producing some breezy conditions across the Great Lakes this morning, and a cold front dropping into the U.S. from this low will give us the chance for some light snow or flurries for much of the week. A large trough in the upper-air jet stream flow will keep the cold air coming as well.

Today: Partly sunny and breezy, high of 42.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, breezy and cold with maybe a flurry or two, lows in the mid- 20s.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, breezy and colder with light snow developing late. Highs mid- 30s. Snow chance tomorrow night 50%.

Extended:
Wednesday: Cloudy, breezy and cold with more light snow showers or flurries early in the day. Highs mid- 30s central, near 40 south. Snow chance Wednesday morning 50%. An inch or less of accumulation is expected.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy and still cold with a few flurries possible. Highs low to mid- 30s.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Cloudy and breezy with thunderstorms likely, perhaps severe. Highs upper 60s.
Cloudy skies with isolated showers are expected through 8 am. Rainfall amounts will be under 1/4 inch. However...roadways will still be wet from rain overnight with puddles likely in many places...so motorists are urged to use caution this morning during the commute.

... Tornadoes and damaging winds possible today as strong low pressure moves across the region...

An area of low pressure developing across the northeast Gulf of
Mexico will move northeast along the Georgia and South Carolina
coasts today. Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms will
continue develop ahead of the low and impact much of the region
this morning as warm and unstable air moves inland from the
Atlantic. A few of the stronger storms will be capable of
producing isolated tornadoes and damaging winds in excess of 60
mph. The most likely areas to see severe weather today will be
those locations along and east of the Interstate 95 corridor. This
includes but is not limited to Darien... Richmond Hill... Savannah...
Tybee Island... Hardeeville... Beaufort... Walterboro... Summerville...
Charleston and Moncks Corner.

Residents and visitors across southern South Carolina and
southeast Georgia should continue to monitor the latest weather
conditions and be prepared to take action should severe weather be
observed or if a warning is issued.

Law enforcement agencies... .emergency management officials and
spotter groups should monitor the latest weather conditions and be
prepared for possible action later this morning.

Autumn 2005 Point Standings (30 people played this week)
The top player this season will win a fabulous weather-related prize (if not a previous winner).
Please verify your point total for accuracy.
^ = moved above the preliminary cut line this week.
-- = moved below the preliminary cut line this week.
* = received a bonus point for Wheel of Fortune

Over half of the Big Ten (Eleven in this week's case) faltered and got only four points this week, allowing the gap to close even more. Only four points separate 3rd place from 14th! Dan from near Las Vegas was the only one to get a perfect week including the bonus, which brought him above the thin, red line! Next week is a Triple Feud with three (count 'em, three) feud topics and no updates or games on Thursday or Friday. Remember that the week after Thanksgiving is a three-game, double-points week, which will conclude the regular season, and seeing just how close the standings are, it is shaping up to get really interesting! Have a great weekend and thanks for playing!

Today’s forecast grade: C+

Forecast:
Now: At 8am with clouds, temperatures are not quite as cold as they were yesterday morning (or afternoon for that matter!), in the mid- to upper 20s.

Synopsis: The light snow showers that moved through overnight have pretty much moved into Michigan now, and a weak warm front to our west has started to push warmer temperatures into the western Great Lakes region. Who would have thought I'd be thrilled to see highs around 35-40 in the middle of November.

Today: Cloudy with a few flurries early but becoming partly sunny, windy and warmer later today. High of 34 central, maybe a few degrees warmer to the south and west.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with maybe some flurries or drizzle. Lows not so cold, around 30. Precip chance 25%.

Saturday: Cloudy and breezy with patches of flurries or drizzle from time to time. No big deal. Highs upper 30s to near 40. Precip chance 30%.

Sunday: Partly sunny, highs near 40.

Next Week:
Monday: Mostly cloudy, maybe some flurries or drizzle late, and becoming windy with highs near 40. Monday night precip chance 25%.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and colder with morning flurries. Highs 32-37.
Wednesday: Cloudy with a chance of light snow developing, highs 30-35. Snow chance 25%.

A widespread freeze is expected across most of southern South
Carolina and southeast Georgia tonight. A hard freeze is likely
across inland areas where temperatures are expected to drop into
the upper 20s. Closer to the coast... a lighter freeze is expected
with temperatures dropping to near freezing by sunrise Saturday.
Freezing temperatures are mostly likely to occur along and north
of a line from Reidsville to Pembroke and Port Wentworth in
southeast Georgia and from Hardeeville to Gardens Corner... North
Charleston and Awendaw in southeast South Carolina. A freeze along
the immediate coast is unlikely at this time.

Today’s forecast grade: C+

Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Scattered flurries will diminish or end over southeast Wisconsin by 8 am. Early morning motorists should be on the lookout for slippery spots and stretches on roadways from the overnight snow showers. In addition...wind chills will be from near zero to the single digits above zero before the winds diminish this morning.
http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=MKX&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Madison

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine and cold temperatures, we're only around 10 degrees above zero!

Synopsis: Ok, so most areas got more snow on the backend of the low pressure system yesterday than when the meat of the system came through two nights ago. Hmph. How many cars did you see on the side of the road while driving home yesterday, and more interestingly, how many trucks and SUVs did you see, thinking that because they have 4-wheel-drive they are immune to slippery road conditions? But what I find amusing is on mornings like yesterday where there was just a tiny dusting of snow on the ground, there was one lone car in the parking lot at work that had a ton of snow on its hood. I wonder where that car was overnight - Minneapolis? As for today, look for sunshine to finally show itself but nippy temperatures remain courtesy of a big trough in the upper-air jet stream.

Today: Partly cloudy and still a little breezy with cold high temperatures only around 25.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and cold, lows around 10-15 above zero. I hate having to add that "above zero" qualifier.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy and becoming breezy again, warmer highs in the mid- 30s.

Extended:
Saturday: Cloudy and breezy with light snow showers possible, but it'll probably be less than 1" of accumulation, highs near 40. Snow chance 35%.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs lower 40s.
Next Week's Outlook: I don't see any big storm systems moving through next week (maybe some light snow or flurries on Tuesday), but I do see the cold temperatures lingering with highs in the lower 40s to start the week but then back in the 30s by Tuesday.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine, highs in the upper 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Sunshine, breezy and much cooler, highs only near 60.
Freeze watch in effect from late Friday night through Saturday morning...
Cold high pressure will build into the area today and Friday
bringing much colder weather to the region. There is a possibility
that freezing temperatures could occur just inland from the coast
of southern South Carolina as well as portions of interior
southeast Georgia Friday night. For this reason... a freeze watch
has been issued. Only a light freeze is expected at this time...
however people with agricultural interests should consider making
preparations for freezing temperature Friday night.

As Earth warms, health risks grow
Studies link climate change, deaths
Add one more item to the list of things that can be affected by climate change and global warming: human health.
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the World Health Organization have compiled a series of studies showing that people have been adversely affected by regional and global climate change. The WHO suspects 150,000 people per year, for the past 30 years, have died as a result of a gradually warming planet. The WHO says that annually, 5 million cases of illness can be attributed to it, too.

Today’s forecast grade: D

Important Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
Southern Wisconsin:
Wind Advisory in effect until 6 PM CST this afternoon...
Strong sustained west winds between 25 to 35 mph... with gusts to 45
mph... are expected to affect south central and southeast
Wisconsin through the daytime hours today. The winds will slowly
diminish from southwest to northeast late this afternoon and
evening.

Light snow was falling over most of southeast Wisconsin...with scattered snow showers or flurries over south central Wisconsin. Any additional snowfall amounts are expected to be just a dusting. Increasing west winds of 20 to 30 mph will carry colder temperatures across southern Wisconsin through the morning hours. Temperatures have dropped below freezing across south central Wisconsin and will drop to below freezing over much of the southeast...which may produce slippery spots on already wet roadways. Drive with caution this morning. Winds are expected to gust to near 40 mph later this morning.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds, wind and scattered light snow showers across Wisconsin, temps are in the upper 20s to lower 30s with wind chills near 20.

Synopsis: That strong low pressure system that generated heavy snow in far northern Wisconsin and tornadoes to our south has moved through Wisconsin. However, the strong pressure gradient behind the system remains, meaning we get a cold, windy day along with scattered light snow showers or flurries. The ground is still different shades of green in our backyard this morning, but the strong wind should make driving into work rather amusing.

Today: Cloudy, blustery and cold with a few flakes from time to time. High of 33 with wind chills in the teens and 20s most of the day.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds but still windy and cold, lows near 10!

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy, not as breezy but still quite chilly, highs only in the mid- to upper 20s. Brrr!

Extended:
Friday: Cloudy and windy again with light snow showers or flurries possible late in the day. Warmer with highs in the low to mid- 30s. Snow chance 30%.
Saturday: Morning light snow, then just mostly cloudy and breezy, highs lower 40s. Morning snow chance 30%.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs lower 40s.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine, highs mid- 60s.

Wind Advisory in effect until noon CST today...
The Wind Advisory is now in effect until noon CST today. The
strong winds associated with the cold front that moved through the
area on Tuesday persist this morning. The winds should decrease
during the late morning hours.

Good Tuesday morning!

Scattergories Tuesday
I have a big forecast to research and you guys know how to play, so I'm not going to reiterate the rules today. Just make sure you use the starting letter - every time I play I always get a few that write in with great answers, but are unique because they used a starting letter of their own choosing! Today’s forecast grade: D

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds but no precipitation as of yet, temps are near 40.

Synopsis: Remember all those things you said you'd save for a rainy day? Well, this may be it. An area of low pressure currently centered in Oklahoma is going through cyclogenesis, strengthening as it pulls in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. It's going to shoot north in a "panhandle hook" pattern, courtesy of the jet stream, dumping all sorts of rain and snow across the Midwest over the next 24-36 hours. Northern and western Wisconsin are already under a Winter Storm Watch, but in east-central, south-central and southeastern Wisconsin, we're only expected to get 1-2" as the precip will be in the form of rain for most of this event.

Today: Cloudy and cool with rain developing later today, and maybe even a rumble of thunder from time to time. Becoming windy again too with a high of 43. Rain chance 90%.

Tonight: Rain changing over to snow, probably 1-2" of accumulation by Wednesday morning but more or less depending on when the switch actually occurs in your backyard. It's going to be really windy again as well, similar to what we went through this weekend. Lows near 30. Precip chance near 100%.

Tomorrow: Cloudy and windy with light snow showers or flurries, less than 1" of additional accumulation. Highs only in the lower 30s. Snow chance 40%.

Extended:
Thursday: Partly sunny and cold, maybe some light snow showers or flurries Thursday night, highs in the upper 20s! Snow chance Thursday night 30%.
Friday: Partly sunny and "warmer," highs mid- to upper 30s.
Saturday: Breezy with a chance of light snow showers or flurries, highs upper 30s to lower 40s. Chance of snow 25%.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs 40-45.

Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine and breezy, highs mid- 60s.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NV/Henderson.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0040

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: A chance of showers, breezy, highs low to mid- 70s.
A few areas of light rain will move northwest through southern South Carolina into mid morning. Prior to 8 am...steadier rains will spread from southwest Charleston County across Summerville and locations northward along the Interstate 26 corridor. Some spots could pick up a tenth to a quarter inch...but most areas will only see a trace or a couple hundreds of an inch.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/SC/Hilton_Head_Island.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USSC0155

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing, some perhaps severe. Becoming windy, highs lower 80s early but temps falling during the afternoon.
Wind Advisory in effect from 9 PM this evening to 6 am CST Wednesday...
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
Wind Advisory... which is in effect from 9 PM this evening to 6 am
CST Wednesday.
A strong Canadian cold front is expected to move across southeast
Texas today... and off the upper coast during the early evening
hours. As high pressure builds in behind the front... the pressure
gradient will become increasingly strong. This will result in
northerly winds around 25 mph... with gusts to 35 mph. These strong
winds are expected to continue overnight... and gradually weaken
during the early morning hours Wednesday.

... A new record high temperature set at Galveston...
The high temperature today reached 81 degrees at Galveston Scholes
Field Airport. This sets a new record high temperature for the
14th... and breaks the old record of 80 degrees set in 1988.
The normal high temperature is 72 degrees for this time in November.

http://www.wunderground.com/US/TX/Pearland.html
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USTX1029

Today in Evansville, Indiana: Showers and thunderstorms, some perhaps severe, breezy, highs near 70.
Through at least 7 am...widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue across much of the quad state region. The most numerous thunderstorms with the heaviest rainfall...and possibly some small hail...will be along and north of a line from Perryville Missouri... to Carbondale Illinois...to Shawneetown...to Sturgis Kentucky. Showers and storms will be more scattered south of this line. Hourly rainfall amounts of one to two inches are still possible with stronger storms.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 14, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:50 PM GMT on November 14, 2005

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update, and I hope you had a great weekend. We had a busy and fun weekend. We spent Friday evening at home with Bryce. We have been enjoying him so much. There are no words that can express just how precious and special he is to us, or just how much we love him. I love being a mommy so much and I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. Okay enough of me being sentimental, and back to the update.

Saturday, Bryce stayed with my friend Lisa while Steve and I, along with my father-in-law Steve, and step-mother-in-law Linda went to Chicago to see The Blue Man Group. It was an excellent show. Steve and I saw the show in Las Vegas in 2002, but it was awesome seeing it again. We ended the evening with a tasty dinner at Giordano's pizzeria. Steve and I shared a delicious Chicago-style stuffed pizza, and because 1-2 pieces fill you up, we have some leftovers for the work week! We all had a great day in the Windy City, and it was nice to spend the day with family.

Sunday, we went to church and following the worship service, we enjoyed a brunch to celebrate Consecration Sunday. Then we spent the rest of the day at home and enjoyed our time together with Bryce before we start a new work week. While Bryce took a nap, we watched the movie Man on Fire, which was a good action movie, and Steve also watched the Packers Game. They actually won for a change, 33-25 against the Atlanta Falcons, and are now 2-7.

Well that wraps up our weekend, and now on the baby update. On Thursday, Bryce had his doctor's appointment for his 4 month well baby check-up. Bryce now weighs 13 lbs. 13 oz. and he was almost 27 inches long. He had four more shots which he didn't like at all, but they are needed to keep him healthy. I gave him infant Tylenol before the shots were administered and he didn't have a bad reaction to them afterwards. Bryce's doctor also gave us the go ahead to start him on solid foods. He said Bryce was at the age and weight where it was okay to start them, which is 4-6 months and between 12-15 lbs. He has been getting cereal mixed in with his formula bottles since the end of September, but the cereal and formula weren't enough to keep him satisfied. His doctor informed me to start him on vegetables first, because babies who start with fruit tend to get too used to the sweetness of the fruit, and then they won't eat their vegetables. He gave me several other suggestions as well, such as giving him the same vegetable for a week, in the evening, until he gets used to it, and trying the orange vegetables (sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash) because they are sweeter than green beans and peas. He also said that until Bryce gets used the vegetables, that I could mix fruit with his cereal bottles. Well, after a trip to the store to purchase baby food, we decided to give it a trial run on Thursday evening. We started with sweet potatoes, which to no surprise didn't go down real well, but his doctor said that's normal until he gets used to them, because it's something different. We haven't had any problems with the fruit because it is mixed in his bottle with his cereal, and he seems to like it. So far for fruits he's had peaches and bananas. By Sunday evening the sweet potatoes went down much better and he even opened his mouth willingly to the spoon for several bites. I apologize for writing so much about Bryce's eating habits, but since this is a baby update and this a big step for him, I decided to write about it in detail. That wraps up Bryce's update. We'll keep you informed and as Bryce continues to grow and progress. Have a great week and I'll be back next week.

Today’s forecast grade: B

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds but no precipitation in Wisconsin, temps are in the upper 20s. Brrr!

Synopsis: Weather forecasting is exciting again! High pressure just to our east will influence our weather today, keeping the rain and snow away but unfortunately not the clouds. All weekend I've been tracking a very strong area of low pressure, which is taking a "panhandle hook" route into our area tomorrow, grabbing a bunch of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and then sweeping north to dump a bunch of precip across our area. At this time it looks like it'll mostly be rain, perhaps changing to snow shortly before ending, but the dynamics are already there to make this winter an interesting one from a forecasting standpoint. In fact, northern Wisconsin is under a Winter Storm Watch for tomorrow evening, where 4-8" are expected!

Today: Cloudy and breezy, maybe a rain shower south, high of 45 central, upper 40s south. Rain chance 25%.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with a chance of rain showers. Lows low to mid- 30s. Rain chance 25%.

Tomorrow: Cloudy, rain becoming likely, and blustery. Highs lower 40s. Rain chance near 100%.

Extended:
Tuesday night: Rain changing over to light snow, maybe 1" of accumulation! Lows near 30. Precip chance 80%. Accumulation will be more or less depending on when the rain changes over to snow. If it changes early, look for amounts to go up and vice versa.
Wednesday: Cloudy and colder behind the cold front, and maybe a few flurries too. Highs only in the lower 30s.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy, maybe some light snow or flurries late, highs lower 30s. Chance of snow 25%.
Friday: Mostly cloudy and breezy, more light snow or flurries possible late, highs mid- to upper 30s. Chance of snow 30%.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a chance of even more light snow or flurries, highs upper 30s to near 40. Chance of snow 30%.
Sunday: Partly sunny, highs upper 30s to near 40.

Only four of last week's top ten people got all four points on Tuesday, yet eight of the next 11 just below the cut line got all four points Tuesday, meaning the race got even more interesting than before! In fact, now just two points separate 5th place from 13th! Congrats to Brian from Madison with the only perfect week including the bonus, and to the nine others who had a perfect week sans the bonus, which includes six of the current top seven. Only three weeks are left until the regular season ends!

Today’s forecast grade: B

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine and a little wind, temps are mostly in the upper 20s to near 30.

Synopsis: The surface map is actually looking a bit boring this morning around the midwest, as the low pressure system that helped to generate all that wind yesterday has pushed off to Quebec and high pressure is moving in from Oklahoma. But don't worry, the forecast will get exciting again this weekend (not that this was something you wanted!)

Today: Mostly sunny, just a little breezy, and still cold with a high of 47 central, near 50 south.

Tonight: Mostly clear, lows lower 30s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, breezy and warmer, highs mid- to upper 50s. Enjoy it but don't get used to it!

Extended:
Saturday: Becoming mostly cloudy and windy again with rain showers developing later in the day, perhaps accompanied by a thunderstorm. Highs upper 50s to near 60. Rain chance Saturday evening 50%.
Sunday: Partly sunny, windy and colder, highs lower 50s.
Next Week's Outlook: Look for more rain and wind late Monday and into Tuesday (some of which could fall as snow!), then just some clouds and isolated light rain or snow showers for the rest of the week. As you might expect from the mention of the four-letter "S" word, things will be colder next week for sure with highs in the mid- to upper 40s Monday and perhaps only in the 30s by midweek! Yikes!

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 9, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 2:55 PM GMT on November 09, 2005

Good Wednesday morning!

"Would You Rather..." Answers
This is a fun game to get some insight on how you guys think, which was particularly the case with game #2.. It was tempting to say something embarrassing about the six people who responded with "A" but I would probably get it back tenfold on the message board, so I'll just leave it at that.

Game #1:
Topic: Appearance / Embarrassment
Would You Rather...
A. Be spotted in the front row of the studio audience on the Psychic Friends Network (16) - 2 points
B. Be in the fourth row of a Richard Simmons' "Sweatin' to the Oldies Video" (12)

Game #2:
Topic: Ethics/Intellect
Would You Rather...
A. Be Embarrassed (6)
B. Watch someone else being embarrassed (22) - 2 points

Got something to say about the two topics above? Have at it on the message board! There's also some interesting commentary about CBS's movie "Category 7: The End of the World," which was on last Sunday and again this weekend.

http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=GRB&StateCode=WI&SafeCityName=Appleton

Southern Wisconsin:
Patchy fog will continue across south central and southeast Wisconsin from 430 am through 730 am. Visibilities will be mostly in the 2 to 5 mile range...however the fog may be dense in low areas and river valleys...reducing visibilities to one quarter mile or less. The fog is expected to lift rapidly after 8 am. Morning commuters should be prepared for rapidly changing visibilities due to the fog.

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with a good amount of sunshine in Wisconsin and isolated rain showers in Minnesota and Iowa, temps are spread throughout the 30s.

Synopsis: A messy-looking weather synopsis map tells me that we're about to go through some changes. The area of low pressure just east of the central Rocky Mountains is expected to strengthen as it moves our way. Look for clouds and winds to increase today and another rain-out tonight, similar to what we had Saturday night.

Today: Partly cloudy early but increasing clouds and winds. Mild, high of 57 central, lower 60s south.

Tonight: Cloudy and windy with showers and isolated thunderstorms likely. Lows low to mid- 40s. Rain chance 80%.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny and still windy with maybe some leftover morning showers. Highs near 50 early but temps will be dropping through the day behind a strong cold front. Morning rain chance 30%.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Morning fog, then sunshine, highs upper 70s to near 80.
Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 am EST this morning...
Widespread dense fog will continue across southern and eastern South Carolina this morning. As a result...a dense fog advisory is in effect until 10 am. Visibilities in many locations will be down near or less than 1/4 mile...making for extreme difficulty in travel. Motorists should use the utmost care when driving. Slow down...use only low beam headlights or fog lights and leave plenty of distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Conditions will improve during the mid morning hours.

The combination of light winds and abundant low level moisture
will lead to areas of dense fog across southeast South Carolina
and southeast Georgia this morning. Visibilities less than 1/4 of a mile
are expected at times. The nature of the fog will be such that
visibilities will vary greatly over short distances.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 7, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:07 PM GMT on November 07, 2005

Happy Monday Morning,
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update and I hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend was a little less busy than usual, and it was nice to finally spend some time at home. Saturday we spent the day at home with Bryce doing some house chores, and some relaxing as well. Steve and Bryce also watched the Badger game. Bryce wore a Bucky Badger onesie, but they still didn't win. Steve said that they were playing one of the better ranked teams though, so he wasn't too surprised that they didn't win. Saturday evening Bryce went to Grandma Nia's while Steve and I went to Oshkosh to see the Tammy Borden Band at The Spirit Zone of the Fox Valley. A couple people we know from church are in the band so we wanted to see them play. They sounded great and we had a good time even if we had to drive there and back in the pouring rain. Sunday we went to church, then to the mall for some shopping. Afterwards we came home and did some more chores while Steve watched yet another rather disappointing Packer game. They are now 1-7.

Not much is new in Bryce's world except that is now using his Jumperoo [picture: http://home.new.rr.com/wiweather/P1080216.JPG]. He seems to really enjoy it and he's able to stay happy in it for quite a while. He had a difficult time at first figuring out how to bounce in it but once he figured it out he's become quite good at it. Well that wraps up my update. Have a great week.

Yount was "introduced" at a news conference at Miller Park though there was really no need; he is the player most recognized with the 36-year history of the Brewers, and his No. 19 hangs high above the outfield wall.

Golf: PGA Tour tees up ‘playoffs’ to boost its flagging finale
The US PGA Tour unveiled the outline for a radical overhaul of its calendar yesterday, including a shorter season and some badly needed credibility for the season-ending Tour Championship.
Starting in 2007, the calendar will be centered round the FedEx Cup, a points-based competition leading into a late-summer playoff, and culminate with the Tour Championship in September. The season finale could offer a purse of US$10 million ($14.5 million).

Family Feud Thursday
Very similar to the Match Game rules played yesterday, give me the most popular answer to these two topics below for two points each. And how cool is it that every game in the poll above got at least two votes? It's interesting that one vote separated each game.

Topic #1: Something that people pump

Topic #2: On average, how much does one bag of groceries cost?

Today’s forecast grade: A-

Forecast:
Now: At 7am with clouds and isolated showers in far northern Wisconsin, temps are in the mid- to upper 40s central and upper 40s to lower 50s south.

Synopsis: An area of low pressure will be moving across the state over the next 24 hours, bringing an assortment of clouds with it. Ahead of the low, look for breezy conditions to kick in more mild air from the south, and most if not all of the precipitation is again expected to remain north of our area. The A- grade given to today's forecast is pretty much based on the mild temperatures, not the sky, as clouds will still rule most of the day.

Today: Mostly cloudy, breezy and quite mild for the beginning of November, high of 63 central, mid- to upper 60s south! Just like babies, sometimes you wish it could stay that way forever.

Tonight: Variably cloudy, still breezy, lows mid- 40s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny and a little cooler behind the low pressure system, highs near 60.

Extended:
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and colder with a chance of rain showers, perhaps mixed with a flurry after dark. Highs only near 50.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy and colder, maybe some short-lived drizzle, highs in the lower 50s.
Next Week's Outlook: A chance of rain showers Tuesday and Wednesday, otherwise dry with slightly above-average high temperatures around 55-60 to start off the week, then 50-55 from Wednesday on.

Google DVRs and TV Advertising
Google may be creating their own branded digital television DVR / satellite service. A DVR that lets you "Log In" with your Google Account before you begin your television watching would allow Google to serve up relevant ads based on: the program you are watching, your search history, the type of emails you have received in the past 24 hours (excluding spam hopefully), or anything else Google can track. Imagine the possibilities... You are watching Google Satellite TV through your "internet ready" Google DVR.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 1, 2005.

By: HaleStorm, 1:43 PM GMT on November 01, 2005

Good Tuesday morning!

Match Game Tuesday!
The last game that has yet to be played this Autumn season will be played today. It's everyone's favorite game...well, ok, maybe one of your favorite games...well, ok, it's the one that's played last for a reason. But it's still fun and if you want some points you gotta play! Since I played the sentence version last time, today we'll do the phrase version. Complete the blanks below with what you think will be the most popular response. Two points for each #1 answer and one point for each #2 answer, similar to the Feud.

Phrase #1: ______ and cake

Phrase #2: Lump ______

Trick or Treat!
Bryce got to go Trick-or-Treating for his first time yesterday evening! Trick-or-Treat was from 4-6pm in our area, which unfortunately meant that Lisa couldn't go with because she doesn't get home from work until just after 6, but my mom, sister Kelley and I took the little guy on an excursion around the neighborhood to get some treats for mommy and daddy. Here's a picture of the little guy in his giraffe outfit. And if you don't say "awwww" I won't give you any points for the above game.
