Now: At 7am with scattered snow showers and a much colder wind, temps are mostly around 30-35.

Synopsis: Almost all of Minnesota is under a Winter Weather Advisory this morning, but Wisconsin looks to escape the worst of this snow storm as the low pressure system is expected to move to the northeast into the U.P. and Canada today. However, a much colder wind and scattered snow showers are in the forecast.

Today: Colder and windy with scattered snow showers, but little if any accumulation. High of 39 overnight but temps just in the low to mid- 30s most of the day with wind chills in the 20s. Snow chance 60%.

Tonight: Decreasing clouds and winds, lows near 20.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with light snow developing tomorrow night, maybe 1" of accumulation, highs lower 30s. Chance of snow 50%.

Extended:
Thursday: Maybe some morning snow showers, then becoming partly sunny, breezy and a little colder. Highs upper 20s to lower 30s.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 28, 2005.

Happy Monday morning,
This is Lisa with our weekend update and I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. Our weekend was very busy and fun. On Thanksgiving Day we did a lot of travelling. We first visited with my aunt and uncle at their house in Menasha. My dad was there for Thanksgiving and he wanted to spend some time with Bryce. We had a very nice visit, then headed down to Milwaukee to visit with Steve's grandparents, his mom, and his aunt Pat, where we had the first of two Thanksgiving dinners. Afterwards, it was on to Steve's dad's house for our second Thanksgiving dinner. Dinner was delicious and it was nice to spend the whole day with various members of our family. Bryce was able to spend lots of time with his relatives, and he was given lots of attention.

Friday we went shopping in the morning, missed out on most of the early deals since we got up late after not getting home until almost 1am, then we spent the remainder of the day catching up on things at home.

Saturday was another day of travel. We headed down to Madison to spend some time visiting with our friends Dan and Lin who were in town from Las Vegas, and our friend Mike from near Chicago. We enjoyed visiting with them, and this was each of their first times meeting Bryce, so once again he received lots of attention. Saturday evening, Mike headed back home to Chicago, and Dan and Lin came back to Appleton with us for a tasty dinner at Texas Roadhouse. They don't have Texas Roadhouse in Las Vegas, so they wanted to be able to eat there before going home.

On Sunday, after a wonderful lunch at Victoria's, Dan and Lin went on their way to visit more of their friends before they go back home to Las Vegas. Then Steve and I spent the remainder of our day at home with Bryce. Steve watched the Packer game - they lost yet again and are now 2-9 and are guaranteed a losing season for the first time under Brett Favre. He thinks it's pretty crazy that for the first time in NFL history, a 2-9 team has actually outscored their opponents over the course of the season to this point. A huge blowout win and six losses of five points or less will do that!

Well that wraps up our weekend update. I don't have much for a baby update this week, except that Bryce is getting much more interested in his toys and other objects. He likes to grab anything he can reach and put them in his mouth. He also really enjoyed all the attention he got from family and friends this weekend, but by yesterday he was a little fussy from all the activity. Well, I better let Steve get to the update, since Bryce is on my lap and he's starting to let me know that's he's hungry. Have a great week.

Game Notes:
This is just a reminder that this is the last week of regular season games for the Autumn 2005 season. There will be three games this week, including Wednesday, and will be worth twice the normal amount. The top ten, to be announced this Friday, advance to the three-week playoffs where each game will be played once to determine a winner, and the top five get a two-point head start. During these three playoff weeks leading up to Christmas, I still encourage everyone to play and email me your answers, especially for the voting games like Feud, Scattergories, etc., but I will only be tallying points for those that make it above the line. The Winter 2005-2006 season will begin after the new year.

Widespread rain was spreading rapidly northward across southern Wisconsin. The leading edge of the rain ran from Sauk City to Milwaukee...and was spreading north at 40 mph. All of southeast and south central Wisconsin will receive periods of rain through the morning. Additional rainfall of one quarter inch is possible. An isolated thunderstorm is possible. Blustery southeast winds of 15 to 30 mph will accompany the rain. A few gusts to 35 mph are possible.

Synopsis: Yet another gloomy day is in store as a strong low pressure system moves across the Midwest. Ahead of the low we're going to get one last day of warm weather before nippy air returns behind the frontal boundary, but it'll be hard to enjoy the warm weather since it'll be raining most of the day!.

Today: Rain and isolated thunderstorms likely throughout the day, but becoming more scattered by later this afternoon. Windy with a high of 52 central, mid- to upper 50s south. Rain chance 100%.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with scattered light rain showers mixing with flurries overnight. Lows dropping to around the freezing mark. Chance of precip 50%.

Tomorrow: Cloudy and still breezy with scattered light rain or snow showers. Temps not moving much during the day with highs only in the mid- 30s. Chance of precip 60%.

Southern Wisconsin:
Wind Advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 am CST Thursday...
Strong northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are
expected tonight. The winds should diminish to just below Wind
Advisory levels on Thanksgiving day... but it will still be very
windy. A much colder Canadian airmass will also blast through the
area tonight with wind chill readings by Thursday morning dropping
into the -5 to -10 degree range.
A Wind Advisory is issued when winds of 35 mph or greater are
expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...
especially for high profile vehicles. Secure loose items in the
yard such as lawn furniture and garbage cans. Use caution while
outdoors.

Snow will continue to reduce visibility to between one and two miles during the morning rush hour across southeast Wisconsin. The snow was beginning to taper off west of a line from Montello to Madison to Brodhead. This diminishing trend will continue to spread east this morning. Total snow accumulations of around 2 inches are expected. This will cause some slippery spots and stretches on area roads...especially on more secondary...untreated surfaces. Be very careful on bridges where deck surfaces may be icy until temperatures rise above the freezing mark this morning.

Now: With snow across the eastern half of Wisconsin and just clouds in the western half, temps are in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Synopsis: As you may have already noticed this morning, we've got an Alberta Clipper making the roads quite the pain in the you-know-what this morning. This light snow is being generated by a fast moving low pressure system to our north, and while the snow will be ending in the next few hours, strong winds associated with the system will bring the coldest air of the season so far to our area tomorrow and Friday.

Today: Snow likely this morning, tapering off to drizzle or flurries and eventually ending by around lunchtime. But no, taking an early lunch will not make the snow stop any quicker. 1-2" of total storm accumulation is expected. Becoming windy later today with a high of 35 central, near 40 south.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, very windy and quite chilly behind a cold front, lows only 10-15 above zero, wind chills below zero.

Thanksgiving: A great day to stay inside and stuff yourself with lots of tasty turkey. Partly sunny, windy and cold, highs in the lower 20s.

Synopsis: Here's another wintry weather term: Alberta Clipper. That's what we have to worry about tonight and tomorrow, as a new area of low pressure and its associated frontal boundary sweep down from west-central Canada and generate a quick round of snow showers tonight and tomorrow. I don't think it'll be enough to make me turn on the snowblower, but it might make for a slippery drive to work on Wednesday. All the more reason to just say forget it and make it a five-day weekend.

Today: Sunshine early but increasing clouds later today. Colder with a high of 36 central, upper 30s south.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with light snow likely. I'm thinking there will be about 1" of snow on the ground when you wake up. Lows upper 20s. Chance of snow 80%.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Decreasing clouds but very windy, highs upper 50s.
High Wind Warning in effect until 10 am EST this morning...
West winds of 35 mph with occasional gusts to 50 mph will
continue across the coastal areas of southern South Carolina and
southeast Georgia through mid morning. Many reports of trees and
power lines being blown down have been reported to the National
Weather Service overnight... and the risk for additional damage will
continue through 10 am. Winds are expected to diminish later this
morning.

Motorists... especially those driving high profile vehicles... are
remain alert for strong winds through mid morning Tuesday. Winds
will be particularly high on elevated bridges such as the Arthur
Ravenel bridge and the Talmadge Memorial bridge.

Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop to
near freezing late tonight. A hard freeze is not expected at this
time... however those with agricultural interests should make
preparations for freezing conditions today.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 21, 2005.

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend update, and I hope you all had a great weekend. We didn't have too much going on this weekend, which was nice for a change, especially since we'll be busy with the upcoming holidays. As Steve preluded to at the bottom of his Friday update, we went to go see the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Extravaganza at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay. Their 18-piece big band put on a great show and got us in the pre-Thanksgiving Christmas spirit.
Friday evening we went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse with our friends Clair and Becky, and Becky's mom. Following dinner, we went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which was book four of the series. Everyone seemed to enjoy the movie, but it must have been too late of a show for me as I slept through most of it. But I read the book so I already knew how it ended.
Saturday, I had to go into work for a couple of hours, but other than that we spent Saturday relaxing at home. It was nice to spend some quality time together as a family.
Sunday after church, we went to Wal-Mart to have family pictures taken, and to pick up the pictures we took a few weeks ago of Bryce (see below). We did some chores inside and outside the house, then we relaxed in the evening with the TiVo, PlayStation 2, and our new toy, the Nintendo DS. Steve got a Metroid Pinball game and I play Nintendogs, a virtual dog game where you own and take care of dogs just like you would a real dog, including feeding, walking, playing, and yes, even picking up after good ol' number two. You can use the stylus to pet the dogs, and it even has a microphone built-in so you can teach them tricks by speaking to the dogs and they will (usually) listen and obey. It's a lot of fun and addicting.
Well, that wraps up our weekend update. Not much is new with Bryce this week - he's drinking his bottles quicker now (10-20 minutes for a mixed 5 oz. formula, cereal and fruit bottle, and he occasionally even holds the bottle on his own for a few seconds), the spoon feedings are still going pretty well, and we have introduced him to the likes of Barney and "Between the Lions", which he seems to enjoy (he sometimes tries to interact with the characters as well). Now: At 8am with clouds, temperatures are not quite as cold as they were yesterday morning (or afternoon for that matter!), in the mid- to upper 20s.

Synopsis: The light snow showers that moved through overnight have pretty much moved into Michigan now, and a weak warm front to our west has started to push warmer temperatures into the western Great Lakes region. Who would have thought I'd be thrilled to see highs around 35-40 in the middle of November.

Today: Cloudy with a few flurries early but becoming partly sunny, windy and warmer later today. High of 34 central, maybe a few degrees warmer to the south and west.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with maybe some flurries or drizzle. Lows not so cold, around 30. Precip chance 25%.

Saturday: Cloudy and breezy with patches of flurries or drizzle from time to time. No big deal. Highs upper 30s to near 40. Precip chance 30%.

Scattered flurries will diminish or end over southeast Wisconsin by 8 am. Early morning motorists should be on the lookout for slippery spots and stretches on roadways from the overnight snow showers. Forecast:
Now: At 7am with sunshine and cold temperatures, we're only around 10 degrees above zero!

Synopsis: Ok, so most areas got more snow on the backend of the low pressure system yesterday than when the meat of the system came through two nights ago. Hmph. How many cars did you see on the side of the road while driving home yesterday, and more interestingly, how many trucks and SUVs did you see, thinking that because they have 4-wheel-drive they are immune to slippery road conditions? But what I find amusing is on mornings like yesterday where there was just a tiny dusting of snow on the ground, there was one lone car in the parking lot at work that had a ton of snow on its hood. I wonder where that car was overnight - Minneapolis? As for today, look for sunshine to finally show itself but nippy temperatures remain courtesy of a big trough in the upper-air jet stream.

Today: Partly cloudy and still a little breezy with cold high temperatures only around 25.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and cold, lows around 10-15 above zero. I hate having to add that "above zero" qualifier.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy and becoming breezy again, warmer highs in the mid- 30s.

Extended:
Saturday: Cloudy and breezy with light snow showers possible, but it'll probably be less than 1" of accumulation, highs near 40. Snow chance 35%.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs lower 40s.
Next Week's Outlook: I don't see any big storm systems moving through next week (maybe some light snow or flurries on Tuesday), but I do see the cold temperatures lingering with highs in the lower 40s to start the week but then back in the 30s by Tuesday.

As Earth warms, health risks grow
Studies link climate change, deaths
Add one more item to the list of things that can be affected by climate change and global warming: human health.
Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the World Health Organization have compiled a series of studies showing that people have been adversely affected by regional and global climate change. The WHO suspects 150,000 people per year, for the past 30 years, have died as a result of a gradually warming planet. The WHO says that annually, 5 million cases of illness can be attributed to it, too.

Wind Advisory in effect until 6 PM CST this afternoon...
Strong sustained west winds between 25 to 35 mph... with gusts to 45
mph... are expected to affect south central and southeast
Wisconsin through the daytime hours today. The winds will slowly
diminish from southwest to northeast late this afternoon and
evening.

Light snow was falling over most of southeast Wisconsin...with scattered snow showers or flurries over south central Wisconsin. Any additional snowfall amounts are expected to be just a dusting. Increasing west winds of 20 to 30 mph will carry colder temperatures across southern Wisconsin through the morning hours. Temperatures have dropped below freezing across south central Wisconsin and will drop to below freezing over much of the southeast...which may produce slippery spots on already wet roadways. Synopsis: That strong low pressure system that generated heavy snow in far northern Wisconsin and tornadoes to our south has moved through Wisconsin. However, the strong pressure gradient behind the system remains, meaning we get a cold, windy day along with scattered light snow showers or flurries. The ground is still different shades of green in our backyard this morning, but the strong wind should make driving into work rather amusing.

Synopsis: Remember all those things you said you'd save for a rainy day? Well, this may be it. An area of low pressure currently centered in Oklahoma is going through cyclogenesis, strengthening as it pulls in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. It's going to shoot north in a "panhandle hook" pattern, courtesy of the jet stream, dumping all sorts of rain and snow across the Midwest over the next 24-36 hours. Northern and western Wisconsin are already under a Winter Storm Watch, but in east-central, south-central and southeastern Wisconsin, we're only expected to get 1-2" as the precip will be in the form of rain for most of this event.

Today: Cloudy and cool with rain developing later today, and maybe even a rumble of thunder from time to time. Becoming windy again too with a high of 43. Rain chance 90%.

Tonight: Rain changing over to snow, probably 1-2" of accumulation by Wednesday morning but more or less depending on when the switch actually occurs in your backyard. It's going to be really windy again as well, similar to what we went through this weekend. Lows near 30. Precip chance near 100%.

Tomorrow: Cloudy and windy with light snow showers or flurries, less than 1" of additional accumulation. Highs only in the lower 30s. Snow chance 40%.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 14, 2005.

Happy Monday,
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update, and I hope you had a great weekend. We had a busy and fun weekend. We spent Friday evening at home with Bryce. We have been enjoying him so much. There are no words that can express just how precious and special he is to us, or just how much we love him. I love being a mommy so much and I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. Okay enough of me being sentimental, and back to the update.

Saturday, Bryce stayed with my friend Lisa while Steve and I, along with my father-in-law Steve, and step-mother-in-law Linda went to Chicago to see The Blue Man Group. It was an excellent show. Steve and I saw the show in Las Vegas in 2002, but it was awesome seeing it again. We ended the evening with a tasty dinner at Giordano's pizzeria. Steve and I shared a delicious Chicago-style stuffed pizza, and because 1-2 pieces fill you up, we have some leftovers for the work week! We all had a great day in the Windy City, and it was nice to spend the day with family.

Sunday, we went to church and following the worship service, we enjoyed a brunch to celebrate Consecration Sunday. Then we spent the rest of the day at home and enjoyed our time together with Bryce before we start a new work week. While Bryce took a nap, we watched the movie Man on Fire, which was a good action movie, and Steve also watched the Packers Game. They actually won for a change, 33-25 against the Atlanta Falcons, and are now 2-7.

Well that wraps up our weekend, and now on the baby update. On Thursday, Bryce had his doctor's appointment for his 4 month well baby check-up. Bryce now weighs 13 lbs. 13 oz. and he was almost 27 inches long. He had four more shots which he didn't like at all, but they are needed to keep him healthy. I gave him infant Tylenol before the shots were administered and he didn't have a bad reaction to them afterwards. Bryce's doctor also gave us the go ahead to start him on solid foods. He said Bryce was at the age and weight where it was okay to start them, which is 4-6 months and between 12-15 lbs. He has been getting cereal mixed in with his formula bottles since the end of September, but the cereal and formula weren't enough to keep him satisfied. His doctor informed me to start him on vegetables first, because babies who start with fruit tend to get too used to the sweetness of the fruit, and then they won't eat their vegetables. He gave me several other suggestions as well, such as giving him the same vegetable for a week, in the evening, until he gets used to it, and trying the orange vegetables (sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash) because they are sweeter than green beans and peas. He also said that until Bryce gets used the vegetables, that I could mix fruit with his cereal bottles. Well, after a trip to the store to purchase baby food, we decided to give it a trial run on Thursday evening. We started with sweet potatoes, which to no surprise didn't go down real well, but his doctor said that's normal until he gets used to them, because it's something different. We haven't had any problems with the fruit because it is mixed in his bottle with his cereal, and he seems to like it. So far for fruits he's had peaches and bananas. By Sunday evening the sweet potatoes went down much better and he even opened his mouth willingly to the spoon for several bites. I apologize for writing so much about Bryce's eating habits, but since this is a baby update and this a big step for him, I decided to write about it in detail. That wraps up Bryce's update. Synopsis: Weather forecasting is exciting again! High pressure just to our east will influence our weather today, keeping the rain and snow away but unfortunately not the clouds. All weekend I've been tracking a very strong area of low pressure, which is taking a "panhandle hook" route into our area tomorrow, grabbing a bunch of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and then sweeping north to dump a bunch of precip across our area. At this time it looks like it'll mostly be rain, perhaps changing to snow shortly before ending, but the dynamics are already there to make this winter an interesting one from a forecasting standpoint. In fact, northern Wisconsin is under a Winter Storm Watch for tomorrow evening, where 4-8" are expected!

Today: Cloudy and breezy, maybe a rain shower south, high of 45 central, upper 40s south. Rain chance 25%.

Tonight: Cloudy and breezy with a chance of rain showers. Lows low to mid- 30s. Rain chance 25%.

Tomorrow: Cloudy, rain becoming likely, and blustery. Highs lower 40s. Rain chance near 100%.

Now: At 7am with sunshine and a little wind, temps are mostly in the upper 20s to near 30.

Synopsis: The surface map is actually looking a bit boring this morning around the midwest, as the low pressure system that helped to generate all that wind yesterday has pushed off to Quebec and high pressure is moving in from Oklahoma. But don't worry, the forecast will get exciting again this weekend (not that this was something you wanted!)

Today: Mostly sunny, just a little breezy, and still cold with a high of 47 central, near 50 south.

Tonight: Mostly clear, lows lower 30s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, breezy and warmer, highs mid- to upper 50s. Enjoy it but don't get used to it!

Saturday: Becoming mostly cloudy and windy again with rain showers developing later in the day, perhaps accompanied by a thunderstorm. Highs upper 50s to near 60. Rain chance Saturday evening 50%.

A deep low pressure system moved across Northern Lake Superior and
southern Ontario on Wednesday which dragged a strong cold front
across Wisconsin early in the morning. Strong northwest winds in the
wake of this cold front gusted as high as 48 mph in parts of south
central and southeast Wisconsin.

Most of the strongest winds tended to occur late in the morning and
early afternoon.

Japanese cars again top the list of most stolen vehicles in the United States with the 1995 Honda Civic the favorite of car thieves in 2004.

Wisconsin Weather Update for November 7, 2005.

Happy Monday Morning,
This is Lisa with our weekend and baby update and I hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend was a little less busy than usual, and it was nice to finally spend some time at home. Saturday we spent the day at home with Bryce doing some house chores, and some relaxing as well. Steve and Bryce also watched the Badger game. Bryce wore a Bucky Badger onesie, but they still didn't win. Steve said that they were playing one of the better ranked teams though, so he wasn't too surprised that they didn't win. Saturday evening Bryce went to Grandma Nia's while Steve and I went to Oshkosh to see the Tammy Borden Band at The Spirit Zone of the Fox Valley. A couple people we know from church are in the band so we wanted to see them play. They sounded great and we had a good time even if we had to drive there and back in the pouring rain. Sunday we went to church, then to the mall for some shopping. Afterwards we came home and did some more chores while Steve watched yet another rather disappointing Packer game. They are now 1-7.

Not much is new in Bryce's world except that is now using his Jumperoo [picture: http://home.new.rr.com/wiweather/P1080216.JPG]. He seems to really enjoy it and he's able to stay happy in it for quite a while. He had a difficult time at first figuring out how to bounce in it but once he figured it out he's become quite good at it. Well that wraps up my update. Have a great week.

Now: At 7am with clouds and isolated showers in far northern Wisconsin, temps are in the mid- to upper 40s central and upper 40s to lower 50s south.

Synopsis: An area of low pressure will be moving across the state over the next 24 hours, bringing an assortment of clouds with it. Ahead of the low, look for breezy conditions to kick in more mild air from the south, and most if not all of the precipitation is again expected to remain north of our area. The A- grade given to today's forecast is pretty much based on the mild temperatures, not the sky, as clouds will still rule most of the day.

Today: Mostly cloudy, breezy and quite mild for the beginning of November, high of 63 central, mid- to upper 60s south! Just like babies, sometimes you wish it could stay that way forever.

Tonight: Variably cloudy, still breezy, lows mid- 40s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny and a little cooler behind the low pressure system, highs near 60.

The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a dense fog
advisory... which is in effect until 9 am EST or 8 am CST this
morning. Areas of dense fog will cover all of east central
Kentucky and that part of south central Kentucky along and east of
a line from Glasgow to Munfordville. The most widespread dense fog
will be located across the towns of
Burkesville... Albany... Columbia and Jamestown.

A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be
reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving... slow down...
use your headlights... and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

Fan Who Took Ball from Favre Pleads Innocent
The fan who ran out of the stands and snatched a football from Brett Favre's hand in Cincinnati pleaded innocent Monday to a variety of charges. Thirty-one-year-old Gregory Gall of Cincinnati is accused of resisting arrest, trespass and disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

The last game that has yet to be played this Autumn season will be played today. It's everyone's favorite game...well, ok, maybe one of your favorite games...well, ok, it's the one that's played last for a reason. But it's still fun and if you want some points you gotta play! Trick or Treat!
Bryce got to go Trick-or-Treating for his first time yesterday evening! Trick-or-Treat was from 4-6pm in our area, which unfortunately meant that Lisa couldn't go with because she doesn't get home from work until just after 6, but my mom, sister Kelley and I took the little guy on an excursion around the neighborhood to get some treats for mommy and daddy. Here's a picture of the little guy in his giraffe outfit. And if you don't say "awwww" I won't give you any points for the above game.

Now: At 7am with sunshine across almost all of Wisconsin and a small line of rain (and even some snow) showers across northern and central Minnesota, temps are mostly in the mid- 30s.

Synopsis: The cold front that produced clouds and isolated showers across Wisconsin yesterday has moved into the Ohio Valley, and a large area of high pressure in the southwestern United States is attempting to have a role in our weather. So far so good, but a new area of low pressure centered just north of western North Dakota is developing the above-mentioned showers, which are currently expected to stay to our north as the system moves east.

Today: Morning sunshine with a few afternoon clouds. High of 53 central, a couple degrees warmer south.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, lows mid- 30s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, becoming windy and warmer, highs upper 50s to near 60.
