Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez has been pretty much free of any cloudiness for the past 24 hours. There has been a few high whispys pass over but that has been it.
Looking south to the cape it looks like yesterday morning they had some passing clouds in that area and the southern crossing that cleared to the south by around noon.
This band of clouds continued to move south and soon blanketed the northern end of the Riviera. Early this morning several very wet cells passed over from just south of Mazatlan to around Manzanillo. I was surprised to see that none of the reporting stations reported any rain accumulations.
This band of clouds is now dissipating and I’d think that by early this morning most will have passed to the east with perhaps some lingering from Manzanillo to Zihuatanejo into later in the day.
Then sunshine looks like the order of the day into tomorrow with only some whispys out in the Pacific.
Looking south now to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where north winds funneling through the Chivela pass into the Gulf will increase to Gale force by tonight as strong high pressure behind a cold front in the SW Gulf of Mexico builds southward along the east coast of Mexico. Peak winds to 40 knots are expected early tomorrow with seas building to 13-14 feet. These conditions will persist through early Tuesday.
That about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure over the west coast is producing mostly clear skies and slightly warming temperatures.
Looking out into the Pacific I can see a Gale brewing out there that will weaken as approaches the west coast and breaks through the high pressure. It’s forecast to arrive late tomorrow into Tuesday bringing rain to northern California and very possibly northern Baja as the cold front sags south on Tuesday.
There appears to be some lingering model uncertainty as to the track of the Storm but most models are showing just light to moderate rain on Tuesday clearing the west coast of California on Wednesday. That being said, one of the models is showing the Storm lingering over northern Baja until Thursday. Tomorrow’s forecast should paint a clearer picture.
Looking now over to the southwest where it should be dry through Tuesday. It looks like light rain will begin on Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Dry and much warmer temperatures will return to the region the remainder of the week.
If this system does linger off the Baja coast it will pick up additional tropical moisture and when it comes ashore they could bring significant amounts of rain to the north state. All this is sort of iffy right now as none of the models have a clear solution.
Well that is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence. It looks like mostly clear skies for the Sea of Cortez and later this morning it looks like the Riviera will be clearing.
As far as winds in the Sea today it will be pretty much like yesterday, perhaps a big stronger in some locations. Just about the same tomorrow as there will not be much change in the pressure gradient until Tuesday when that low moves through to the north. Then we will see a couple of days of light winds until high pressure returns to the Great Basin later in the week.
Today is SuperBowl Sunday in the US and Constitution day in Mexico. Banks and government offices will be closed tomorrow in observation of the holiday.
