Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that yesterday from time to time we had some high whispys pass over the Sea. Starting early last night that area of disturbed weather WSW of the cape that was producing mostly whispys begin to develop a lot of thunderbumper activity and with the west/east flow in the basin started moving these clouds toward Baja. First over the cape and the southern crossing then gradually moving north up the Baja peninsula and now this morning heavy clouds are beginning to move into the central Sea and later this morning into the northern Sea.
There was a band of very wet cells that moved across the southern crossing last night that brought rain to the crossing and Mazatlan.
This image is showing a lot of high topped (wet) cells approaching the west coast of the Baja peninsula and I’d expect at least some of these to be rain producers.
Zooming out I can see that this area is quite large and spread out the length of the Mexican Riviera to the northern end of the Sea. It is being fed with subtropical moisture moving up from the ITCZ/monsoon trough which is also quite active this morning. The heaviest concentration is over the southern Sea this morning.
Looking south I’d expect to see some of these cells make landfall as far south as Manzanillo today.
Taking a look now at the Gulf of Tehuantepec where the 30 knot winds are forecast to diminish below 20 knot this afternoon. Another round of strong north winds, possibly to Gale force, will occur Sunday and Monday.
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday bright sunshine and today dreary dark bottomed clouds passing over. The good side is the Baja peninsula needs the rain.
That’s about it for our hood so looking north now to the west coast of America where some cloudiness will be seen along the coast but inland mostly sunshine through the weekend and into Monday.
That Gale I mentioned earlier in the Pacific that is heading toward California is forecast to arrive next Tuesday along the west coast. This low is forecast to break through the high pressure and bring rain to the entire state.
In the meantime high pressure will pretty much blanket the west.
As a sidebar: That low that brought snow to Salt lake city yesterday has moved up into Colorado this morning bringing blizzard conditions to the state. Temperatures in Denver will be in the 20s with a foot of snow forecast for today.
Looking now at the southwest daily temperatures will increase a few degrees each day through Monday. That Pacific Storm will move through the region Tuesday and Wednesday bringing cooler temperatures and a slight chance of rain. As this system passes to the east high pressure will rebuild and dry and warmer weather will return to the end of next week.
Well that is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the winds in the northern and central Sea will be brisk to strong for the next three days. The southern Sea will see much lighter winds. I noted that all locations in the Sea were a tad under the forecast values yesterday. I think that will happen again today.
I don’t have to tell you it will be cloudy today, just look up. You just might need an umbrella.
Temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s today in the central Sea and in the mid to high 70s in the southern Sea.
Also according the forecasting groundhog at Punxsutawney Penn. Yesterday, the winter will have an extended stay this year.
