Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that scattered high bands of whispys have been passing over the central Sea for the past 24 hours.
They are very thin and are coming from that area of disturbed air WSW of the cape that has been there for several days and within the past 24 hours has moved a bit further off shore.
The cape area that has see a lot of these high clouds pass over the past few day has been pretty much cloud free since yesterday morning.
The Riviera as well has been pretty much free of any cloudiness since yesterday morning.
Looking further south I can see that the ITCZ/monsoon trough just west of Panama is pretty active this morning and sending a low of wet clouds along the coast and finally making landfall directly into the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. Salina Cruz on the northern shore of the Gulf was reporting 32K winds and 100% overcast at 5am this morning. These clouds are then moving east across the isthmus and entering the western Gulf of Mexico.
The forecast for the Gulf of Tehuantepec is for these 30 knot winds to diminish to below 20 knots by tomorrow morning. The next round of strong gap winds, possibly to Gale force, will be Sunday into Monday as a cold front pushes through the Gulf followed by strong high pressure.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific Basin there are still mostly high whispys between Baja and Hawaii this morning.
That’s about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the entire west coast has sunshine in their forecast. The Storm track is well to the north of the Canadian border and I can see a big honker move out of the Gulf of Alaska and is moving across northern British Columbia this morning. Too far north to have any affect on the western conus.
I said that the entire west coast would see sunshine today. Well only partial sunshine from about Eureka to the Canadian border this morning as a band of mostly dry clouds move in from the Pacific.
The rest of California will remain dry and a bit warmer under building high pressure. Early next week a low is forecast to break through the high pressure and it looks like there is a good chance this will bring some rain to all of California.
Looking now over to the southwest where low pressure will settle into Arizona today and tomorrow. This will be a relatively dry system for Arizona. It will bring some cloudiness and windy conditions to the southwest particularly along the Colorado River Valley through this evening. Saturday there will still be some high cloudiness but the winds should abate.
The southwest could see some rain about the middle of next week as that low moves into California and then east into Arizona.
Well that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the forecast for the next 3 days is to see 18-24 knot winds in the afternoon. The southern coast of Baja should see very moderate winds today then pick up to the 17-20 knot ranges Friday and Saturday.
That being said with virtually now gradient in the Sea today I’m thinking that the forecast wind values may be a little high this afternoon. We’ll see?
Temperatures will be in the mid to low 70s today. Here in el Burro cove the average February high is 72 degrees, a bit cooler then January which met its average of 74 degrees last month.
If that sort of thing interests you, my web page has the daily conditions here in the cove from 2003 to the present posted under Archives.
