.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can’t see any clouds in the Sea. Off to the west off of the peninsula I can see several stringy bands of whispys that some looks like they are evaporating as they approach the peninsula and others a passing over. Here in Concepcion Bay a passing band gave us a great sunrise this morning. It looks like the central Sea will be seeing them from time to time today.
They are debris clouds, spill-over’s from thunderbumpers working along the ITCZ,
Looking now at the cape area and it looks like they started to see some whispys pass over last night and they are continuing this morning. These clouds are coming from the area I just mentioned.
Looking now to the Mexican Riviera where pretty much the same thing is happening. Debris whispys passing over around Manzanillo and Zihuatanejo this morning.
Further south I can see that the Tehuantepec is peaceful this morning and it looks like it will be peaceful for the next couple of days. Light winds are forecast for the Gulf as well.
Further south along the ITCZ (about 8 North) from Panama there is a broad band of heavy thunderbumper activity that extend west out to about 130.
Other than that the Eastern Pacific Basin is pretty much clear all the way out to Hawaii this morning.
Looking north now to the west coast of America where Oregon and Washington are overcast and California has sunshine in its forecast for today.
The dominate feature in this image is that big honk’n low off the Washington/British Columbia coast this morning. It will very slowly slide south a bit and then start to move inland. Heavier showers for the Great Northwest will start tomorrow and peak on Sunday. The Great Northwest will remain cool and rainy well into next week.
For northern California a significant change in the weather will occur Saturday night into Sunday as that low and the associated cold front take aim on northern California. Showers and thunderbumpers will develop Saturday night into early Sunday.
Temperatures will drop as much as 25 degrees by Sunday and Monday from today. The Sierra foothills will see temperatures in the 30-40s and the snow level will drop below the mountain passes Saturday and Sunday and down to around 3500 feet in the bay area meaning the folks in the bay area will be seeing snow on Mt Diablo and some of the other high peaks this weekend. I have friends that may try to sky Diablo on Sunday. I have a t shirt that says “Ski Diablo The runs are short but so are the lines.” I’ll have to find out if they are continuing the tradition.
Southern California could see some light shower activity late in the weekend from this Alaska system. In the meantime it will remain seasonally cool. Grey May will be felt all along the southern California coasts.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will continue to warm today and get into the upper 90s to near 100.
Saturday will begin a cooling trend into next week as that Alaskan low blankets the west. It will also be breezy to windy during the passage of this low to the north. The low is forecast to weaken on Tuesday and move off to the east on Wednesday. In the meantime they can expect dry weather with mostly clear nights and sunny days.
That being said there is a weak low off the northern Baja coast that is forecast to move into Southwest Arizona tonight. There is not a lot of moisture in this system and with the exception of some passing clouds during the night most folks in the state won’t be aware of a passing front.
Back down here across the border in Baja the northern Sea will have a southern component for the next couple of days. The Central Sea NE and the southern Sea NW. Winds will be in the moderate ranges.
