Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I’ll start in the south. That moisture plume that has plagued the southern tip of Baja over the past several days looks like it could be drying up. Even though La Paz and the East Cape are currently overcast it looks like there are just a few whispys off the west coast. I confirmed this with the web cam at the west cape. It showed clear skies off to the west.
I noted that some to these whispys from the south also passed over the central Sea and Concepcion Bay that brought us a beautiful sunrise painting a flat bay shades of red, Fuchsia, and orange.
Looking to the north I can see with both the water vapor imagery and and this satellite with an IR view the low that has been gathering moisture off the northern Baja coast for a couple of days has started to move to the NE into northern Baja and SW Arizona this morning. There are some heavy clouds in this swirl. The forecast is for a chance of some valley rain and perhaps some mountain snow today as the system moves through to the east-northeast.
Looking south from the Sea to the Mexican Riviera where there are a few clouds off shore but it does not look like any are making landfall.
Looking further south to the Tehuantepec where as advertized the Gulf is having a brief Tehuantepecker this morning that should last until tomorrow morning before dropping back below advisory levels.
With the exception of that one flair along the ITCZ the rest of the basin and the zone looks pretty much clear this morning so looking now north to the west coast of America where a very cold low that I’m calling Bubba, is starting to move down the west coast.
Strong winds will proceed this system that will move down the coast today and tomorrow bringing rain to the valleys and snow to as low as 1300 feet tomorrow.
Seattle will be the first US city to feel the affects of this system with highs in the 40s today along with rain and a chance of thunderbumpers this afternoon.
Portland could see snow downtown tomorrow.
The system will move into and park overnight in Northern California tonight. Sacramento is forecast to have 35 mph winds this afternoon. Temperatures in northern California today and tomorrow won’t get more than 50. Tomorrow the Sierras could have a foot of new snow. Snow levels could dip to around 1300 feet on Thursday. Bubba should exit on Friday.
Southern California is getting a double whammy. The first whammy is a cold front that is moving up from off the northern Baja coast and is now moving into southern California and SW Arizona. This will cool things down and bring a good chance of some showers to the low lands and snow to the mountains by tomorrow morning.
Bubba is forecast to arrive on Friday bring more cold, more rain and snow to the mountains. In advance of Bubba’s arrival it will be gusterly along the coast and the mountains with 70 mph winds in the passes.
A Gale warning will be posted for off-shore waters in southern California starting tomorrow.
Looking for a light at the end of the tunnel I found the long range forecast models not very encouraging. An active weather pattern may be in store for next week. Most of the models are indicating an upper low will remain nearly stationary near the Gulf of Alaska. If this verifies the west coast could see and extended period of unsettled weather beginning late next week. We’ll see.
Meantime back here in Baja where spring hath sprung. Pool temperatures are creeping up. Daytime highs are in the 80s. Sounds like a typical Baja April.
Today, actually for the next 3 days, the northern Sea will be seeing strong southerleis ballpark 20, with Friday seeing some 30 knot gusts.
Today in the central Sea mostly ENE in the moderate ranges. Fridays winds will be from the south.
Today for the southern Sea light to moderate east or southeast on tap for the next 3 days.
