Voice to Text……….
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that clouds from the Pacific have continued to pass over the cape area for the past 24 hours.
Yesterday a 125 mph jet stream developed from the Gulf of Alaska and streams south through California and then hooks a hard left off the Baja peninsula and moves over Baja, the Sea of Cortez, and the mainland and into the Gulf of Mexico. No pineapples in this express, perhaps maybe a snowball.
The Eastern Pacific Basin is about 90% blanketed with clouds this morning. Some of them look to be heavy with moisture. This upper level jet is transporting them toward Baja mostly from about Puerto Escondido south to around Manzanillo this morning. I’d say about 70% of these clouds are whispys. So mostly passing whispys in the southern Sea with some fat fluffys joining the mix from time to time.
From about Puerto Escondido north the Sea looks to be mostly clear with just a few high whispys passing over today.
As I mentioned the Riviera will see mostly sunshine today.
Looking south to the Tehuantepec it looks pleasant today with less than 10 knot winds forecast but by tomorrow evening there should be a full blown Tehuantepecker brewing in the gulf that should last into Friday.
That’s about it for down here so looking now north to the west coast of America where major changes in the weather will be occurring this weak. First looking at the coast: No rain is forecast for today but a Santa Ana wind event is staging today and southern California will be gusterly through Thursday.
The big new is taking place in the Great Basin. Strong high pressure there this morning is 1055 creating a 46mb gradient between Southern Idaho and southern Arizona this morning.
Here is what is happening today. High pressure will continue to build over the Great Basin. A large very cold arctic upper level low will retrograde from the northern Rockies (that is, move west) and move into the 4 corners area later today ON TOP of the high pressure building there. It will continue to retrograde into northern Arizona later today bringing subfreezing temps with it.
This very cold arctic airmass will dive south across Arizona and bring the coldest February temps to the area in over 20 years. Not only will the overnight lows be near record cold, but the daytime highs will be very unseasonably cold with most locations setting daily records for low maximum temps on tomorrow and Thursday. Perhaps less than 45 degrees for both days in Tucson.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Well almost: The eastern portion of the United States is forecast to have a mega storm developing starting today as a big honk’n low moves down from Canada.
Now, south of the border here in Baja today. It will be the lull before the storm today. Pleasant winds and mostly sunshine.
Tomorrow, (and it looks like the winds will start early), will be the start of a Gale Force wind event with winds to 40 knots in the central Sea. The event should last until perhaps Friday morning with tomorrow having the strongest winds.
The entire Sea will be affected including the southern portion. The models are not backing off these numbers, so if you are in the Sea of Cortez, on the water, try to find a “hidy-hole”. You will have today to check your ground tackle, perhaps double check to make sure your roller furlings are secure. We don’t want to have any incidents coming from this wind event.
With the exception of the southern crossing on the east cape, the Mexican Riviera won’t be affected by this wind event and will only see a slight increase in their winds tomorrow.

Don't chisel these forecasts in stone. This is an Amateur Endeavor. They, however, are normally very close.
