Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that veiled sunshine blanketed a good portion of the Sea yesterday morning; the Sea of Cortez was pretty much clear in the afternoon.
Of course late in the afternoon many locations had our summer thunderbumpers in the area.
This morning the skies look clear over the Sea with the exception of a thin band of high whispys that has spun off from tropical storm Lowell and is passing over the far northern Sea this morning.
Looking south to along the west coast of Mexico we have Maria cranking up down there. She is centered west of Manzanillo this morning. There may be some other thunderbumper along the coast but hard to see because of Maria.
In our Tropical Kitchen this morning tropical storm Lowell and tropical storm Karina are keeping on schedule and heading toward Hawaii this morning. Maria our newest STORM has quickly gone from a tropical depression to a category 1 hurricane and expected to reach winds of around 120 mph and that would elevate it to a cat 3 hurricane. Several of the models are suggesting that a category 4 hurricane is entirely possible as Marie passes west of the cape over the weekend and into next week.
I’d expect that the cape region including the East Cape could see some rain and high winds as Maria passes on Monday.
Tropical Waves: two are in transit in the mid Atlantic and one has disappeared in the jungles of Central America this morning.
Of note: The Baja Insider is reporting the sewers have backed up in La Paz due to the heavy rains. Health officials are advising no swimming in the bay and do not eat at food carts. The also said that they were changing there systems in their weather department. I hope that mean that their weather Underground weather station will go back on line after being off line for months.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where typical August summer weather is forecast for the entire west coast for today.
Sunshine over the weekend in the Great Northwest.
A healthy Delta breeze will be keeping the upper Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys a little cooler today.
In Southern California a weak low off the coast will keep temperatures a bit cooler today but high pressure is forecast to rebuild over the area tomorrow and the temperatures will go up a few degrees.
Looking over to the SW where drier air will spread across the region today. Moisture will gradually work back into the area from the south with some thunderbumpers anticipated over the southeastern area on Sunday. Thunderbumpers will increase and spread to most of SE Arizona through the middle of next week. this image is showing that all of the moisture moving up from Sonora has been moving into New Mexico.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence in most locations the southerlies will return on Sunday and be strong both Sunday and Monday. Meantime we still have one more day of light to moderate NE or NW winds.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today and tomorrow and strong to 20 from the SE on Monday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: around 20 today from the NW, mid teens tomorrow from the SE and strong again on Monday from the SE again.
The Baja side of the central Sea including Puerto Escondido: the mid teens today from the NW, high teens tomorrow from the SE and the low 20s on Monday from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. The low teens today from the NE, tomorrow light SE and on Monday around 20 from the SE.
La Paz: the low teens from the NW today, high teens from the SE tomorrow and on Monday around 25 from the SE.
The East Cape: on Monday the East Cape could be affected by the passing of Maria to the west. Today the low teens from the NW, tomorrow around 20 from the SE and on Monday close to 30 from the Se.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta: mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Cabo Corrienties: light SW today, the high 20s tomorrow from the SE and the high teens on Monday from the SE.
South of the cape Manzanillo is forecast to have winds in the high 20s today from the SE then light to moderate winds from the NW Sunday and Monday. The rest of the Mexican Riviera light NW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
