Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that yesterday most of the Sea saw veiled sunshine for most of the day. This morning this image is showing the skies to be mostly clear over the Sea of Cortez. There is some cloudiness on the eastern portion of the southern crossing due to a large cell developing around Puerto Vallarta this morning.
It has steadily grown in the past 6 hours and based on past performances of the storms generated in this area it could move north into the southern crossing and into the Sea of Cortez. We’ll just have to wait and see what this large cell does.
The only rain reported for the Sea or the Mexican Riviera was a Puerto Vallarta and they had .98 inches of rain yesterday.
In the 24 hour loop I can see that again the Baja peninsula had thunderbumpers working on the coastal side of the mountains in the afternoon. Here in the cove we had serious black clouds directly overhead along with big-time thunder and lightning and 22 drops of rain. All around the bay they had rain but not here in el Burro Cove. I though I was going to get a reprieve from washing the fire truck but that did not happen.
A quick look over at Sonora and there has not been a lot of thunderbumper activity in the state in the past 24 hours just a lot of moisture moving north into mostly New Mexico.
In our Tropical Kitchen this morning we have two tropical storms Karina and Lowell. Karina is slowly headed toward Hawaii and Lowell is headed to the west of the Baja peninsula. Neither of these storms should pose any threat to land.
We also have a wanna-be. It is currently invest 92E and is located a bit to the west of the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Long range models continue to show this area of disturbed weather to become a tropical storm then a hurricane this weekend. The initial forecast track has it following in the footsteps of tropical storm Lowell and passing well to the west of the Baja peninsula.
Tropical Waves: Two are in transit in the Atlantic and one is moving through the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in the Great Northwest a few small weak upper level troughs brushing the area may bring a few showers to mainly the Cascades today, but the forecast for tomorrow into the weekend is for a warming and drying trend.
In northern California a low moving down the coast will bring on a cooling trend into the weekend. Sierra showers are also possible during this time.
In southern California that low that is moving down the coast will move through the southland tomorrow and bring a chance of thunderbumpers near the coast. Fair and warmer weather will return on Friday as that low exits to the east.
Looking now over to the SW where scattered mainly afternoon and evening thunderbumpers will continue through Friday. Some storms will produce heavy rainfall and gusterly winds. This weekend it should dry out a little however there will remain enough moisture in the region for isolated thunderbumpers.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence in general moderate southerlies will continue for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light winds for the 3-day forecast period. Today SE, tomorrow NE and on Friday SW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light SW today and tomorrow and on Friday around 20 from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: the high teens for the 3-day forecast period. Today NE, tomorrow SE and on Friday NE again.
Puerto Escondido: the mid teens from the SE for today and tomorrow and on Friday light NE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands.: light winds for the next 3 days. Today and tomorrow SE and on Friday NE.
The East Cape: Also light winds. Today SE, tomorrow SW and on Friday NW.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan, Light SE today and tomorrow and then light SW on Friday.
Puerto Vallarta: light NW today, light SW tomorrow and then light NW again on Friday.
Cabo Corrienties: light SW today, light SE tomorrow and on Friday light NW.
South of the cape mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
