Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that yesterday the Sea was pretty calm until late in the afternoon.
The 24 hour loop is showing several large storms develop between Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta and along the Sinaloa coast and move north into Sonora over night. One developing near Puerto Vallarta last evening has moved out into the Sea and is approaching the cape this morning. This has some very cold high topped clouds in it. Good chance it’s a rain producer.
As far as the Sea there has been a lot of small thunderbumpers in the Sea since yesterday afternoon. And again this morning I can see where numerous thunderbumper have been working just east of the crest of the Giganta mountain range. Here in the cove we had sprinkles early last evening and then a little later some 35-44 knot NW winds that trashed my umbrella out in my floating bar. Lots of lighting strikes from all four quadrants up until sunrise but too far away to hear much thunder.
This morning the images are still showing a thunderbumper in the southern and central Sea especially along the Sonoran coast.
Lots of moisture in the air so this may be a typical August day with sunshine popping up later this morning and thunderbumpers in the afternoon.
In our Tropical Kitchen this morning we have Tropical storm Karina. She is about 445 miles south of the cape and is continuing to move NW and will probably reach hurricane status late tomorrow or Saturday. She is forecast to continue to move in a westerly direction and pretty much follow in the footsteps of the last storms we have had this season and head for Hawaii. There are no indications that she will have any effect on land.
The long range models show this STORM the only one on the horizon for at least the next 5 days.
Tropical Waves: There is one in the mid Atlantic, one just leaving the African coast. One entering the western Caribbean and one passing through the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning that’s giving cause to some 20-25 knot winds there this am.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in the Great Northwest a strong low is moving through Washington bringing big time thunderbumpers that will be producing large hail and very strong winds over eastern Washington today
In northern California they can expect fairly heavy coastal fog along the coast and warm and dry inland into the weekend.
In southern California where it too will be warm and dry well into next week.
Looking now over to the SW where the monsoon will decline over the SW today and tomorrow. A warmer and drier pattern is forecast as high pressure rebuilds and repositions over the desert southwest.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence in general the Sea will be seeing light to moderate southerlies for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: the low teens from the SE for the 3-day forecast period.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: the low teens from the SW today, light NW tomorrow and light SW again on Saturday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: light NE today and tomorrow and then the mid teens from the NE on Saturday.
Puerto Escondido: the mid teens from the SE today then the low teens from the SE for the next two days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Pretty much the low teens from the SE for the next 3 days.
The East Cape: around 17 today from the SE, the low teens tomorrow from the SE and on Friday light SE.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan: 8-12 from the SW through Saturday.
Puerto Vallarta: light NW for the 3-day forecast period.
Cabo Corrienties: light SW today, light NW tomorrow and Saturday.
South of the cape: mostly the low teens from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
