Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that several cells that developed around the Puerto Vallarta area yesterday morning moved out into the southern crossing and a bit north into the sea then broke up leaving a lot of residual clouds in that region. There remains a lot of cloudiness in the southern crossing this morning but no thunderbumper activity.
From around Puerto Escondido north the skies look mostly clear this morning.
Over in Sonora there was a lot of convection moving north crossing the Fence around Tucson and to the east of Tucson in the SE corner to the state during the night. None of these cells moved out into the Sea.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico where there are a few clouds along the coast but no thunderbumper activity this morning.
Not much going on in our Tropical Kitchen this morning.
As for Tropical Waves there are two in transit in the mid Atlantic, one in the western Caribbean and one has just emerged a bit south of the Gulf of Tehuantepec. This wave is embedded in a large pool of very moist air and the National Hurricane Center is suggesting that a low will gradually from in this region and become depressed. Well, well see. The other commercial long range models are not showing this so we’ll put this on the back burner for now.
The two hurricanes that were supposed to deliver a one-two punch to Hawaii are looking more like a jab and a missed left hook. However…Surfs up!
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Pacific North West will continue to see sunshine throughout the weekend.
In northern California where thunderbumpers are likely in the Sierras today with more widespread thumpers Sunday into Monday. Temperatures to remain near normal through next week. That would be in the mid 90s for the Sacramento area.
In southern California surfs up along the coast…dudes. Inland showers and thunderbumpers are forecast for the deserts and mountain over the weekend.
Looking over to the SW where they can expect increasing chances of thunderbumpers this weekend as deeper moisture returns to the area. Then expect scattered mainly afternoon and evening thumpers during the upcoming week. Near average daytime temperatures will occur into next week. Tucson is looking at the high 90s to the low 100s over the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like our moderate southerly winds will be with us over the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light SE for the 3-day forecast period.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: the low teens from the SE today, light SE tomorrow and light westerlies for Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: the mid teens from mostly the SE Monday could see a swing to the NE in the afternoon.
Puerto Escondido: the mid teens from the SW for the next 3 days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. ballpark around 10 knots from the SE for the 3-day forecast period.
The East Cape: light SE today, light SW tomorrow and light SE again on Monday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan, light SW today, light NW tomorrow and light SW again on Monday.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: the low teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of the cape: mostly the low teens from the SW for the next 3 days.
