Looking down into the Sea this morning the entire Sea from around San Francisquito bay south is overcast from clouds from TROPICAL STORM Douglas. Numerous thunderbumper popped up during the night from Santa Rosalia south to the cape.
This morning the satellite images are showing several strong cells still in the Sea. Here in Concepcion Bay I could see several cells producing lighting to the east and south of the bay at 4am this morning. Last night from around 11:30 to around 2am several cells came through here with gusts to 34 and 43 knots. Rain totals were about .02 inches. Concepcion Bay is currently overcast.
Looking over at Sonora I can see that it too was a hotbed of thunderbumper activity during the night.
Looking further south to the Mexican Riviera it is overcast all the way to the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. During the night the Gulf had 25 knot winds that were mostly likely associated with the passing of a Tropical Wave moving through the isthmus and Central America.
I can see that there was scattered thunderbumper activity all along the coast from Mazatlan south last night.
In our Tropical Kitchen this morning tropical storm Elida is history and tropical storm Douglas, now in cold waters, is a short timer. The forecast is for Douglas to be plutoed to the Tropical Depression later today and a remnant low by Friday. He is currently well west of the cape with around 35 knot winds and continues to pose no threat to land.
Looking at the long range models it does not look like there will be anything cooking in our Tropical Kitchen at least into the weekend.
That being said the tropical wave train in the Atlantic keeps rolling on. There are currently two waves in transit in the Atlantic, Two more in the western Caribbean and one just passed over the Tehuantepec isthmus into the Pacific. You’d think that one of these will catch the eye of a lonely low over here in the Pacific. We’ll see?
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in the Great Northwest there will be a chance of showers today through the weekend, but dry weather is forecast for next week.
In northern California not much change in the weather today but strong high pressure if forecast to strengthen over the western conus over the weekend and into next week bringing temperatures several degrees above normal. Sunday and Monday Sacramento will see triple digits.
In southern California ….surfs up! There is also tropical moisture moving up from Douglas that will bring chances for afternoon showers and thunderbumpers over the mountains and deserts tomorrow through early next week. The chance for showers and thunderbumpers decreases after Monday.
Looking now over to the SW where the arrival of monsoon moisture will bring cooler temperatures for the rest of the week and into the weekend along with more clouds and increasing STORM chances. STORM chances peak tomorrow and on Saturday across south-central Arizona and the potential for storms could reach as far west as the lower Colorado River Valley and into SE California by Friday and through the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today most locations in the northern and central see will see gust to around 20 and then tomorrow in the low teens.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: around 20 today from the SE, 12 tomorrow SE and 12 on Saturday NE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 17 today SE, light SE tomorrow and around 16 from the west on Saturday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 19 this afternoon from the SE, the low teens tomorrow from the SE and on Saturday light NE.
Puerto Escondido: 16 today from the SE, light SE tomorrow and light NE on Saturday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Around 12 today from the SE, light SE tomorrow and light NE on Saturday.
The East Cape: around 12 today from the SE, light SE tomorrow and light NW on Saturday.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today, light SE, tomorrow light SW and Saturday light NW.
Puerto Vallarta: light NW today and tomorrow and light NE on Saturday.
Cabo Corrienties: light SW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of Cabo Corrienties mostly light SW breezes for the next 3 days.
