Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the skies look clear over the Sea of Cortez this morning. NOAA’s experimental fog seeing satellite is showing a rather thick fog bank hugging the outside of the Baja peninsula from around Pt. San Quinten south to Mag Bay. Especially heavy in Turtle Bay and Scammons Lagoon. It’s also showing pockets of fog or low clouds in the central and southern Sea this morning.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico where the coast is clear to around Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties where there has been some thunderbumper activity during the night however this morning there are just some remnant clouds left in the area. There is an 80% chance of thunderbumpers from around Manzanillo south for this afternoon.
From Cabo Corrienties south it is overcast along the coast with scattered thunderbumpers working along the coast from around Zihuatanejo south to Acapulco this morning.
We do have something in our Tropical Kitchen this morning.
This just arrived a few minutes ago.
One of those tropical waves has emerged from the Central American jungles this morning into the Eastern Pacific. It looks like it caught up with a low several hundred miles SW of Acapulco this am. The NHC is giving this a 40% chance of development through the next 5 days.
Off to the east there are two Tropical Waves traversing the Atlantic this morning. One is about mid Atlantic and the other is approaching Guinea this morning. The last two waves that starting moving inland in this area never emerged in the Pacific. This wave is moving a bit to the north of the ITCZ/Monsoon trough so it could a better chance of making it through. We’ll see?
Well, that’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where Yesterday’s forecast is today’s forecast. With strong high pressure off the west coast the entire west coast will remain dry and hot. Sacramento will be looking at 105 temperatures over the weekend.
Southern California… hoo humm! Just June Gloom at least into mid next week. Temperatures in the 70s. It will continue to be a bit gusterly in the deserts and mountains in the late afternoons and evenings.
Looking now over to the southwest where the temperatures in the 105 ranges will be seen today from the Mojave deserts to the lower deserts of Arizona. Needles 108-114, Death Valley 116-120. Tucson will see 105 today. Not much change is expected over the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the southern winds will continue for the 3-day forecast period, the strongest today.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: low teens from the SE for the next 3 days.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: mid teens from the SE today and tomorrow and light SE on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: high teens today, mid teens tomorrow and low teens on Monday all from the SE.
Puerto Escondido: Same pattern.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Around 14 today from the SW, around 12 Sunday and Monday from the SW.
La Paz: light SW for the 3-day forecast period.
East Cape: light SE today and tomorrow and light NE on Monday.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: Mostly mid teens from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan, the low teens from the SW for the next three days.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: light SW today then light NW for the next two days.
South of the cape mostly light SE breezes.
Temperature-wise, here in the cove for the first 6 days of June 4 of the 6 days were 100 or over. This is very unusual. So far this month we are averaging 3 degrees above a normal year. Normally we will see perhaps one maybe two days a month over 100 in the summer months and September. This weekend the temperatures will be in the high 90s, but next weeks forecast brings back the low 100s again.
