Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea of Cortez is pretty much clear of any clouds this morning. There has been some cloudiness over the cape region and the southern crossing overnight. They could continue to see some whispys from time to time today.
Looking now south to along the west coast of Mexico where there are no clouds along the coast and further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec there no thumpers working in the Gulf this morning however the isthmus has solid cloud cover from remnant thunderbumper activity just to the west.
There is still a Tehuantepec working in the Gulf with 45 knot winds there this morning that are forecast to dip just below GALE force by tomorrow morning and light breezes by Sunday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a low off the west coast of Washington will be moving ashore today giving a nudge to the high and pushing it off to the east.
This low will sag south over the weekend first bringing showers to the Great Northwest then showers to northern California as far south as Eureka tomorrow then central California and the northern Sierras will see showers on Sunday into Monday.
That will be the extent of rain for California. Southern California will remain very hot and very dry with record breaking heat presenting very high fire danger. There are currently 18 fires burning in southern California with nine of them in San Diego County.
The front moving through to the north will initially start some cooling along the coast today then move inland tomorrow with significant cooling over the weekend and into next week.
In general the temperatures will drop 10-15 degrees by Monday from today in most of California.
Looking now over to the southwest where the fire map is showing two wild fires burning in Arizona. One north of Tucson and one to the east of Tucson this morning.
Temperatures along the lower deserts and the Lower Colorado River Valley will in the 110-115 ranges today. Tomorrow should be the hottest day for most locations.
Midday Tuesday the front is forecast to be over the Nevada Plateau so the only effect this system will have on the southwest is just some moderate cooling.
In the wake of the cold front the west coast as well as Arizona will see a cooler air mass settle in next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we are in for a pleasant weekend with moderate winds and very warm temperatures.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today, Light SE tomorrow and around 15 from the SE on Sunday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 15 today from the NW. Around 10 tomorrow from the NW and about the same on Sunday from the SE.
The Baja side of the central Sea: the low teens today and tomorrow from the NE and around 18 on Sunday from the SE.
Puerto Escondido: around 12 today and tomorrow from the NE and 16 on Sunday from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light NE today and tomorrow and around 11 on Sunday from the SW.
The East Cape: mid teens today from the NW. Light NW tomorrow and light SE on Sunday.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: the mid to high teens mostly from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan: 15-17 from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: low teens from the NW for today and tomorrow and again the low teens from the SW on Sunday.
South of the cape: Manzanillo is forecast to see 13-17 from the SW for the next 3 days. South of Manzanillo mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Temperature wise this weekend will be the warmest this year so far. Most locations will see temperatures in the mid to the high 90s.
