Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea of Cortez is pretty much free of any clouds this morning.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico where the coast is clear to around Zihuatanejo where there has been some thunderbumper activity over night however this morning this skies look clear there. Further south around Acapulco and south to well into Central America it is a hotbed of thunderbumper activity.
Out along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough around 130 there is another area of heavy thunderbumper activity.
Here it is the first official day of Hurricane season and we have a very late season Tehuantepecker brewing the Gulf with winds expected to hit 45 knots today and seas building to as high as 19 feet within 180 miles SW of the Gulf of Tehuantepec. The GALE force winds should diminish below GALE force by Saturday afternoon and light breezes by Sunday afternoon.
There is nothing cooking in our Tropical Kitchen this morning however the first Tropical Wave of the season left the African coast on Tuesday and is now well out in the Atlantic heading our way.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America the heat wave continues to set new record highs along the west coast.
Friday a low will approach the west coast and put pressure on this high to exit to the east and it should accomplish that by Saturday.
That low system will bring cooling first to the Great Northwest on Friday along with a good chance of some rain over the weekend and Monday.
In northern California all sorts of records were broken yesterday and today will be just as hot. 80 degrees again on the streets of San Francisco, 100 at Santa Cruz were just a few. The cooling will start tomorrow as that front starts to move into the Great Northwest. Northern California could see some rain this weekend to as far south as Eureka.
In southern California the Santa Ana winds will be diminishing today and end tomorrow. Today will bring another day of record breaking heat to the southland. They should start to see some cooling Saturday and Sunday as the low pressure trough deepens along the west coast.
Well, the hot winds and the low humidity started to take it’s toll yesterday with several wild fires breaking out in southern California. San Diego had nine fires break out across the county yesterday.
Looking now over to the southwest where under high pressure the temperatures continue to climb. This weekend Tucson will see around 100.
Today Yuma and much of the desert southwest have been issued a high heat advisory with temperatures around 100 today.
The STORM system moving through the Great Northwest will dip the temperatures a few degrees early next week, however gusterly winds will be main effect in the southwest.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence today the Sea should see the strongest winds over the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 19 today from the NW. 10 tomorrow from the NE and light winds again on Saturday from the south.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 17 today NW, 14 tomorrow NW and on Saturday around 8 from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 17 today NW, 11-13 from the NE for Friday and Saturday.
Puerto Escondido: 12-14 from the NE today and tomorrow and around 11 on Saturday from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light northerlies over the next two day and then light southerlies on Saturday.
East Cape: light NW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: the mid to high teens for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan: 15-17 from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
Puerto Vallarta: 11-13 from the NW for the next 3 days.
Cabo Corrienties: light winds for the 3-day forecast period. Today SW, tomorrow and Saturday NW.
South of the cape: mostly moderate SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Temperature-wise many locations in Baja Sur will see the high 90s even 100 degrees this weekend
