Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea of Cortez and the west coast of Mexico are clear of any clouds this morning. There is some thunderbumper activity in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning though and about mid week the Gulf has forecast to have a late season Tehuantepecker.
Looking further south to the ITCZ/Monsoon trough I can see most of the activity along the zone is close to the Central American coast this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where it will be a day of contrasts.
In Colorado they will be receiving about a foot of new snow. Along the west coast they will be seeing the start of a week of very hot, record breaking temperatures.
In the Great Northwest it looks like warm and dry into next weekend.
In northern California: That upper low that brought rain and light snow showers over the Sierras and gusterly winds in the valleys yesterday has moved into the Great Basin his morning. High pressure will build through the middle of the week with each day getting a bit warmer. By Tuesday the highs in the Sacramento area will be in the 90s, 100 by Thursday.
In southern California, a 1027 high over the Nevada Plateau and 1012 in southern California will give case to a Santa Ana wind event for southern California starting this morning and lasting into mid week. Winds in the 35-50 mph ranges are expected with gusts to 60 mph. These hot dry winds roaring down the Santa Ana mountains will exasperate the fire danger in the southland with red flag warnings posted into mid week. Temperatures will also sour into the high 90s this week.
Looking now over to the southwest where a high wind warning has been posted for southern Nevada and the Colorado River Valley until 5 this evening.
Over in the Tucson area the dry front moving into the Great Basin this morning will bring slightly cooler temperatures along with breezy o windy condition and the possibility of blowing dust. Under high pressure and sunny skies temperatures will gradually rebound into the upper 90s/lower 100 by the middle of next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence after that delightful day yesterday it looks like we will be seeing northerly winds in the ballpark 20 knot ranges well into mid next week as high pressure builds in the Great Basin.
So here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 24-26 today and tomorrow cranking up to around 31 on Tuesday, all from the NW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: around 15 today from the NW, then around 29 Monday and Tuesday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 21 today NW and then 27 NW on Monday and Tuesday.
Puerto Escondido: 16 knot SE today and then around 20 from the NE for Monday and Tuesday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Light SW today, mid teens tomorrow from the NW and Tuesday the mid teens from the NE.
The East Cape: around 12 today from the NE and then 16-18 from the NW for the next two days.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: the mid 20s from mostly the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan: 15-17 from the SW for the next 3 days.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: The low teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of the cape: Manzanillo the mid teens from the SW, south of Manzanillo the low teens from the SW.
