Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see most of the Sea is clear this morning. There is a weak moisture plume with a mix of whispys and fluffys passing over the cape region this morning.
To the south along the west coast of Mexico it looks like this moisture plume will be bringing some cloudiness to the southern crossing and the Mazatlan area this morning. South of Mazatlan it looks like the skies are pretty much clear to Central America this morning.
There are however patches of clouds that have been breaking off an area of disturbed weather surrounding a low that’s about a 1000 miles west of Zihuatanejo this morning. There is considerable shower activity in this area. None of the models are in agreement with what will happen with this low. Some have it breaking down and another forming to the west. It’s not an invest, but it is getting discussed in the National Hurricane Center’s daily reports.
The Tehuantepec is quiet this morning and no wind events are on the horizon for that region.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the west coast will continue to experience an unsettled weather pattern today due to several waves of low pressure moving across the region. A cold frontal boundary will stretch from southern California to the eastern Great Basin, bringing high elevations snow showers to the Southwest, while rain and thunderbumpers will be possible across southern California and northern Arizona. Cold air behind this frontal boundary will settle in across northern California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, and snow levels are forecast to drop to 7000 feet across the Cascades and the Sierras. Meanwhile, an onshore flow will continue to push rainy weather across the Great Northwest today.
So both northern and southern California will see brief light rain today with the front moving into the Great Basin later today. Southern California has high wind advisories posted and small craft advisories for the coast until this evening.
Most of the west coast will return to warm and dry later in the week.
Looking over to the southwest where that front will be moving through the upper part of the state today bringing windy and colder conditions. Yuma has a high wind advisory posted until this evening. Temperatures will dip well below seasonal norms with this cold air in place though Thursday. They should see a warming trend starting Friday into the weekend with temperatures climbing back into the 90s across the lower deserts.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence as these lows move through the Great Basin the winds in the northern and Sea continue to fluctuate from strong to mild from one day to the next.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 27 today from the SW then the low teens from the SE for the next two days.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light NW today, around 20 tomorrow from the NW and on Thursday the low teens from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 20 from the NE for today and tomorrow and around 15 from the NE on Thursday.
Puerto Escondido: 10-11 knots today from the SW and then 18 tomorrow from the NE and on Thursday 14 from the NE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Around 11 today from the west or SW then light NE for the next two days.
The East Cape: light NE today then 15-16 knots from the NW for the next two days.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: the high teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today 18, tomorrow 21 and Thursday 25 all from the NW.
Puerto Vallarta: light westerlies today. Around 12 tomorrow from the NE and on Thursday 15 from the NW.
Cabo Corrienties: light SW today, Light NW tomorrow and around 17 from the NW on Thursday.
South of the cape: mostly light SW except for Zihuatanejo that is forecast to have strong winds to around 20 tomorrow along with rain.
