Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea of Cortez is free of any clouds this morning.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico where all along the Mexican Riviera the coast is clear. However starting around Zihuatanejo and south there is considerable cloudiness moving ashore including what looks like a thunderbumper in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning and several more out in the pacific.
Speaking of which a late season cold front moving through the Gulf of Mexico has given cause to a brief wind event in the Gulf. GALE warnings are still up this morning but are expected to be taken down later this morning. The winds will gradually diminish today and tonight and be just a fresh breeze by tomorrow afternoon. Meantime the seas are running as high a 15 feet. They too will slowly diminish today.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where I can see that low still swirling off the west coast of Washington this morning.
It’s already raining in Washington and northern Oregon this morning. this morning and as the system starts to move east it will move SE and slide down the coast bringing a good chance of rain to northern California tomorrow through Tuesday. Any rain that does come will be light and building high pressure off the west coast will bring dry weather and warmer temperatures back to northern California on Wednesday through the end of the week. There is also a threat of more light rain Friday as the upper ridge flattens out.
In southern California a cooling trend will begin today as high pressure gives way to that trough of low pressure currently off the Washington coast this morning. The trough will be slow to move east so temperatures will likely remain below average through Wednesday before slowing increasing Thursday and Friday.
Looking now over to the southwest where strong high pressure aloft will persist over the region today providing mostly clear skies and very warm temperatures. Much of the lower desert is expected to break the 100 degree mark again today. However that pacific low pressure system will move into the western states tomorrow then into Arizona late Tuesday. As the now dry cold front approaches gusty afternoon southwest winds are expected Monday into Tuesday. Cooler temperatures will follow the cold front Tuesday into Wednesday with high temperatures falling well below seasonal normals. Below normal values will continue Thursday and then a warming trend will develop Friday into Saturday as high pressure aloft builds back into the area from the west.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the central Sea will see strong southerlies today the rest a bit less.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid teens today from the SE, mid teens tomorrow from the SW and then on Tuesday around 27 from the SW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 14 today from the SE. Less than 10 tomorrow from the SE and on Tuesday also less than 10 but from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 18-19 knots for the next 3 days. Today NE, tomorrow east, and Tuesday NE.
The LoretoFest in Puerto Escondido: 18 today from the SE, 15 tomorrow from the SE then around 11 from the SE on Tuesday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Around 11 today from the SE, a bit less tomorrow from the NE then on Tuesday around 16 from the SW.
The East Cape: less than 10 today from the SE, then the low teens for the next two days from the NE and NW respectively.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: mostly mid teens from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today around 16 from the SW. Then 19-19 from the NW for the next two days.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: mostly the low teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of the cape mostly light SW breezes for the next 3 days.
