Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that nasty moisture plume that has been with us for the past week moved south during the day yesterday and brought sunshine to the northern and central Sea yesterday afternoon. During the night the plume continued to move south and passed over La Paz and this morning it continues to move south and is just south of La Paz blanketing the cape region and south as far as a bit south of Mazatlan with mostly whispys this morning. There are a few lingering residual fluffys here and there in the central Sea but sunshine should be the order of the day today.
Should this southward progression continue it looks like the Puerto Vallarta area will be seeing cloudy skies later this morning and afternoon.
South of Cabo Corrienties the skies look clear this morning.
Further south at the Gulf of Tehuantepec GALE warnings are posted for this morning. Winds are forecast to diminish during the day today and be in 20-25 knot ranges by this afternoon and 20 or less by tomorrow afternoon.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where off to the west of the Washington/Canadian border I can see a 972 low descending down from the Gulf of Alaska this morning.
This low and associated cold front will be bringing rain to Washington, Oregon and northern California this morning along with high elevation snow in the Cascades. The rain will shift east by this afternoon into Idaho, however it will remain cool with unsettled weather for most of next week.
In northern California they won’t see any rain south of Eureka today.
A stronger Pacific trough will approach the coast on Monday bringing a chance of rain to northern California Monday night and Tuesday.
In southern California in the LA Basin there will be a slight chance of showers today then high pressure will move in tomorrow bringing warm temperatures by Monday. Another weak low will pass through on Tuesday with high pressure rebuilding in its wake as it exits to the east.
Further south in the San Diego area there is not much chance of any showers today. The weekend should be warm to the end of the week when another Pacific STORM is progged to arrive.
Looking now over to the southwest where they will see a chance of showers and thunderbumpers through the weekend with the best chance of any measurable rain and perhaps a few lightning strikes occurring this afternoon. A strong warming trend will begin on Sunday and continue into the first part of next week.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like moderate NE winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light SW today then around 12 from the NW for the next two days.
The Baja side of the central Sea: east or NE for the 3-day forecast period. Today around 16 and then the low teens for the next two days.
Puerto Escondido: around 1e today from the SE then about the same from the NE for the next two days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. 10 or less for the next 3 days. Today SW tomorrow and Monday NE.
The East Cape: the low teens from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: the mid teens from the SW today then NW for the next two.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan 15 today from the SW then 19-20 from the NW for the next two days.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties ballpark around 13 knots from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of Cabo Corrienties: light to moderate SW breezes for next 3 days.
