Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see what looks to be the last band of heavy clouds coming across the Baja peninsula this morning from that moisture plume that has been with us for about a week. Behind it the skies look pretty much clear.
This band is thick and heavy with dark bottomed clouds from the border to La Paz with just a few whispys passing over the cape this morning. I’d be surprised if sprinkles were not reported in some locations this morning.
This afternoon should see mostly sunshine after almost a week of overcast in the Sea.
Looking now south to along the west coast of Mexico where several bands of these heavy clouds passed over during the night to as far south as Cabo Corrienties, but out in the Pacific the plume is dissipating fast and they should see abundant sunshine this afternoon.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec high pressure building west of a cold front moving through the Gulf of Mexico will increase the northerly winds to 20-25 knots into the Gulf of Tehuantepec later today with minimal GALE conditions expected by tonight through early tomorrow morning. The winds should quickly diminish during the day Saturday with only 15-20 knot winds expected by tomorrow night.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where several lows will be moving through the Great Northwest today providing rainy weather to Washington, Oregon and the northern California. A mixture of rain and snow will also push across the Cascades.
In northern California tonight they should see some isolated light showers in the northern Sacramento Valley and thunderbumpers in the Sierras. Dry weather is forecast for the weekend with continued above normal temperatures.
A change in the weather starts on Monday with a large upper low descending down from the Gulf of Alaska. Light showers will start early Monday in northern California with the blunt of the system impacting northern California on Monday evening with showers spreading southward into Tuesday with lingering showers into Tuesday. The Sierras will see some afternoon thunderbumper action but no snow.
In southern California the LA basin could see some light showers this afternoon but that’s about it.
Further south in the San Diego area they could see some light rain along the coast but most will be in the deserts and mountains. Otherwise it will be dry. The low will move east over the weekend bringing a return of near normal temperatures through the early part of the week.
Looking now over to the southwest where as this low moves through the region it will bring a chance of showers mostly to the higher elevations with perhaps sprinkles across the deserts. Better chance of showers and thunderbumpers will occur on Saturday.
That’s what is going in to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like delightful weather on tap for the Easter weekend. Light to moderate southerlies today giving way to light to moderate northerlies into Easter Sunday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: around 16 from the SE today then light NE over the weekend.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: around 13 from the SE today, less than 10 tomorrow from the SW and on Easter Sunday light NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 17 today from the SE, 15 tomorrow from the NE and 13 knots on Sunday.
Puerto Escondido: low teens from the SE today and tomorrow and 15 knots on Sunday from the NE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Low teens today from the SE, less than 10 tomorrow from the west and on Sunday light NE.
The East Cape: around 14 today from the SE then 11-14 from the NW over the weekend.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: mid teens from the SE today and tomorrow and again the mid teens from the NW on Sunday.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan, mid teens today and tomorrow from the SW, around 19 on Sunday from the NW.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties the mid teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of Cabo Corrienties mostly light to moderate SW breezes for the next 3 days.
