Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see a broad well defined moisture plume coming from just south of Hawaii this morning. It is being supported by a 70 mph jet stream. It was the source of our cloudiness yesterday.
This morning the heavier dark bottomed clouds in this plume start around Puerto Escondido and extend south to the cape. It looks like these heavier clouds will pass over into the mainland early this morning. Thinner upper level clouds are from Santa Rosalia south to around Cabo Corrienties this morning.
It looks like the central and southern seas will be see veiled overcast for portions of the day along with periods of sunshine.
These clouds extend south to along the west coast of Mexico to around Manzanillo this morning. They should see more sun than cloudiness today.
The Gulf of Tehuantepec remains quiet as we are pretty much getting to the end of the Tehuantepecker season.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where a weak low and associated cold front will be moving through the Great Northwest today bringing wet and unsettled weather to the region through the weekend.
In northern California where a brief period of drier weather is expected for early today before a relatively weak system moves through the region. The main portion of the system will move in tonight through Friday bringing a chance of showers to mostly the central and upper Sacramento Valley and north. Drier and warmer weather is expected for the weekend and into next week.
Looking now to southern California where high pressure will bring on slight warming today. Tomorrow that weak low moving through the north state will bring a slight chance of showers to the LA basin but not as far south as San Diego.
Then building high pressure will bring a warming trend this weekend with very warm to hot weather from early next week into mid week.
Looking now over to the southwest where systems moving through the Great Basin brought a few light showers to the higher elevations last night to the north of Tucson. It will be chilly this morning and tomorrow morning with sunrise temperatures around 43 warming up to around 51 this afternoon. Another system is progged to pass by to the north on Saturday with another round of gusterly winds possible.
A gradual warm-up is then expected to begin on Sunday and continue through at least the middle of next week as high pressure slowly builds northward over the desert southwest.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence ballpark 20 knot winds in the central Sea today, mid teens tomorrow then 18-20 Saturday through Monday with Tuesday starting a period of very moderate winds in the Sea.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: NW to 19 today, low teens from the SE tomorrow and around16 from the NE on Saturday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: strong to 24 today from the NW, light NW tomorrow and around 18 from the NW of Saturday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 21 today from the NE, then ballpark 17 from the NE for the next two days.
Puerto Escondido: moderate NE today and Saturday and light SE tomorrow.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands.
The mid teens today from the NE. Light SW tomorrow and light NW on Saturday.
La Paz: around 17 today from the NE and then light NE tomorrow and Saturday.
The East Cape: the mid teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period. Around 20 today then mid teens from the NW for tomorrow and Saturday.
For the Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan, around 14 today from the NW then 19-21 from the NW on Friday and Saturday.
For Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties today: light NW then 15-17 from the NW for tomorrow and Saturday.
South of Cabo Corrienties: in general light to moderate SW winds for the 3-day forecast period. Which is pretty much a rubber stamp for this area during the spring months.
Temperature-wise the Sea will see temperatures in the low to mid 70s today and the Mexican Riviera mid 80s. It should start to warm back up again tomorrow.
