Looking down into the Sea this morning I can’t see any clouds in the region or along the Mexican Riviera this morning.
High pressure over the north-central Gulf of Mexico continues to generate an strong gradient across the Tehuantepec isthmus that is giving cause to GALE force winds to whistle through the Chivela Pass this morning. They are expected to diminish during the day with seas subsiding from the 12 feet heights this morning to around 6 feet this evening.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where I can see a 1002 low just off the Oregon coast that has dropped down from the Gulf of Alaska this morning. This is the first of several systems with will be bringing rain to mostly Oregon and California over the upcoming week.
It is currently raining from Portland to central California this morning.
Snow levels will start around 5000 feet and could drop to around 500 feet this week in northern California. Some of these cells could produce very strong rain.
In southern California strong winds in the mountain and deserts will precede the rains that should start later today. The first round of rain in southern California should end Wednesday with round two into Thursday and Friday. Right now it looks like the weekend will be dry in southern California with strengthening high pressure off the west coast.
Looking now over to the southwest where dry conditions and above normal daytime temperatures will occur again today. A stronger low will then bring gusterly winds and cooler temperatures tomorrow through Wednesday. They could see a few showers on Wednesday night. A gradual warming trend will then occur heading into next weekend.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the northern Sea will see those moderate southern winds today and the central and southern Sea will have light to moderate northerlies.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light around 13 today from the SE then less than 10 from the south for the next two days.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light SW today, mid teens tomorrow from the NW and upper teens on Wednesday from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: mid teens from the NE today and tomorrow and around 19 from the NE on Wednesday.
Puerto Escondido: mid teens for the 3-day forecast period. Today SE, tomorrow and Wednesday NE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Less than 10 knots for the 3-day forecast period from variable directions from east to west.
The East Cape: light east winds today and tomorrow and around 13 from the NE on Wednesday.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: Mid teens for the 3-day forecast period. Today SW and NW for the next two.
The Mexican Riviera: mid teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: low teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of the cape: mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
Temperature-wise today will be a few degrees cooler than yesterday.
