Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that has brought veiled sunshine of the Sea for the past 3 days has dissipated and the last of the plume will be passing over the central and southern Sea this morning. Sunshine should be the order of the day for this afternoon for the entire Sea.
That being said as the heaviest part of the plume passed over the Sea early this morning and it looks like there were several embedded light showers in the central Sea. Here in Concepcion Bay at sunrise this there was solid cloud cover with dark bottomed clouds, albeit not rain.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico the Mazatlan area is still overcast this morning and they will see some whispys early afternoon with clear skies later today.
From Puerto Vallarta south the skies are clear.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec: there is a cold front moving through the western Gulf of Mexico this morning. The gradient between the eastern side of the isthmus and the Gulf will increase the winds whistling through the Chivela pass to near GALE force by this evening and the Tehuantepecker should last until tomorrow evening. Sea will reach as high as 11 feet by tomorrow morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where it looks like the STORM door will be open for California and the Great Northwest well into next week.
In this image I can see a big honk’n 993 low hovering off the Washington coast this with the frontal boundary crossing the northern California/Oregon border this morning.
This system will start off the day by ushering rainy weather across Washington, Oregon and northern California, while heavy snow is expected across the Cascades and the Sierra Nevadas. Snow levels are forecast to range between 6500 to 7000 feet in the Sierra Nevadas, but will likely drop to 5000 feet throughout the evening. Snow accumulations will range between 6 to 12 inches across the Cascades and the Sierra Nevadas today.
In northern California rain and mountain snow over Interior Northern California today with a threat of afternoon thunderstorms...decreasing Sunday. A colder and wetter storm will impact the area Monday and Tuesday with another system possible towards the end of the week.
In southern California fair weather is forecast for today with clouds and cooler weather moving in tomorrow with a slight chance of showers west of the mountains. The mountains and deserts will be seeing gusterly west winds through Monday. Later in the week should see a better chance of some rain.
Looking now over to the southwest where high pressure will temporarily build over the region today resulting in sunny skies, lighter winds and warmer temperatures. However a series of Pacific storms will begin to move through the basin starting tomorrow and into next week. None of these systems are forecast bring any rain to the region except a few showers in the higher elevations.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the moderate winds will continue for the 3-day forecast period. Tomorrow most locations will see winds with a southern flavor.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: low teens today and tomorrow from the NE and mid teens on Monday from the SE.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: will be a bit gusterly today with 20 knot winds forecast for the Guaymas San Carlos area. The next two days light southerlies.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 16 today from the NW, tomorrow high teens from the SE and moderate probably east or SE on Monday.
Puerto Escondido: low teens today from the NE then light SE for the next two days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Mid teens today from the NE then light SE for the next two days.
The East Cape: around 17 today from the NE then light SE for the next two days.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: High teens today from the NW then low teens from the SW for the next two days.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today around 18 from the NW. 15 tomorrow from the SW and on Monday around 14 again from the NW.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: light NW today, light SW tomorrow and light NW again on Monday.
South of Cabo Corrienties: 10-12 knots from the SW for the 3-day forecast period.
