Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that that tropical moisture plume is still with us this morning. It has tapped into more moisture along the ITCZ/Monsoon trough and it looks like we will have these overcast or partial overcast skies again today.
It is acting much like the Pineapple Express with the plume extending from the ITCZ/Monsoon trough, across the Sea of Cortez, crossing Texas and into Tennessee. However that southern jet has not shown up all winter.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico I can see some fluffys off shore from Puerto Vallarta that are slowly moving toward the coast. They were passing over the Socorro’s early this morning. I’d imagine that the Puerto Vallarta area should start to see some of these clouds later this morning. I can’t see any other clouds along the Mexican Riviera this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top left corner of this image I can see a nice fat low spiraling in the Gulf of Alaska this morning. This will be a weather maker from central California north to Vancouver starting Tuesday.
In the meantime the west coast is progged to be warm and dry through Monday.
Tuesday through Wednesday the forecast is for showery weather in Washington, Oregon and northern California.
In northern California around a half inch of rain is forecast for the valleys and an inch in the foothills. Snow levels will start around 6000 feet on Tuesday and drop to around 4000 feet on Wednesday. The Sierras will probably get another couple of feet of new snow at the higher elevations.
In southern California an upper low off the central California coast will move southward through tonight then move inland across northern Baja Monday night. The effect will be gusterly conditions in the mountain and deserts and perhaps some light rain along and west of the mountains.
Later in the week the STORM moving through the north state will bring just a chance of some rain in the LA Basin however San Diego should remain dry. A warming trend is likely for the second half of the week as high pressure returns.
Looking now over to the southwest where dry conditions with continued above average temperatures will start the week. A series of weather systems pushing through the region mainly north of Tucson will bring strong gusterly winds Wednesday and Thursday. They could also get some mountain showers mid week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like we will continue to have these light to moderate winds in the Sea for the next 3 days.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light (less than 10) NE winds for the next two days and lighter SE on Tuesday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: mid teens for the 3-day forecast period from the NW.
Same thing for the Baja side of the central Sea: mid teens for the 3-day forecast period all from the NE though.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. 10-12 from the NE today and tomorrow and on Tuesday very light say 5-7 from the NE.
The East Cape: the mid to high teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: 16-20 from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan 18-23 from the NW for the next 3 days.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: the low teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of Cabo Corrienties: mostly light to moderate SW winds for the next 3 days.
