Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see a broad scattered tropical moisture plume moving off the ITCZ/Monsoon trough around 130 and heading directly toward the Baja peninsula this morning.
From around Santa Rosalia south I can see straggly patches of clouds passing over the peninsula this morning. This will continue all day.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see a few clouds just off shore from Zihuatanejo but that’s it for the west coast.
The GALE is still brewing in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. The high in the Gulf of Mexico is forecast to migrate east this morning and relax the gradient across the isthmus. The EarthWindMap is showing 43 knot winds exiting the Gulf into the Eastern Pacific basin this morning. This wind event should be over by this evening with relatively benign conditions on tap for the Gulf through the weekend. Late Sunday the next Tehuantepecker is due through Tuesday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest is expecting off and on wet weather well into next week.
In northern California warm and dry weather will continue through early next week. Weak systems will pass through to the north today and Monday with no rain expected. There is a slight chance of some rain mid week in the extreme northern end of the state.
Looking now to southern California where high pressure will strengthen through the weekend with a warming trend spreading toward the coast on Sunday. They will be slightly influenced by systems moving through the northern state mid week but any chance of rain is nil with just a bit of cooling.
Looking now over to the southwest where they are expected to see a few showers mainly east to Tucson today and this evening. Tomorrow a second low will drop south across New Mexico resulting in gusterly condition Saturday afternoon. Beyond that high pressure will be influencing the region next week with dry and warmer weather.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence. Today’s winds will be the lightest over the 3-day forecast period and for the central Sea around 20 knots. The weekend will see buffalos romping around the Sea with NW winds to 30 in some locations.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 14 today, 22 tomorrow and 25 on Sunday. All NW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 20 today, 26-28 over the weekend.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 20 today, 23 tomorrow and around 30 on Sunday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light NW today, 16 tomorrow from the NE and 24 NW on Sunday.
La Paz: light SE today, 20 tomorrow from the NW and 28 on Sunday from the NW.
East Cape: NE today around 12 knots. 23 tomorrow from the NW and on Sunday 31 NW.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan mid teens today from the SW and then 23-26 over the weekend from the NW.
Mexican Riviera: 14 SW today, 16 NW tomorrow and 19 NW on Sunday.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: Light SW today, then the mid teens from the NW over the weekend.
South of the cape: Manzanillo 10-12 SW for the next 3 days, Zihuatanejo 13-14 from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
