Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that off to the west of the Baja peninsula there is a lot of multi-level cloudiness. During the past 24 hours some of these clouds have been moving down the Sea from north to south and it looks like that will continue today. There should be periods of sun mixed in with patches of fluffys and mostly whispys all day.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see a few clouds around Acapulco but that’s it for the west coast.
In the Gulf of Tehuantepec the GALE warning is still up this morning as this brief wind-event starts to wind down. By this evening the winds should diminish to around 20 or less with tomorrow seeing winds the low to mid teens. The seas should be less than 8 ft by this evening. The nullschool wind map shows 42 knots coming out of the Gulf of Tehuantepec for about 30 miles downstream this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest will see a day of mostly sunshine before another wet system arrives this weekend bringing more rain and Cascade snow.
The rest of the west coast will see some cloudiness today but in general warm and dry.
This weekend the rain should start for northern California around Crescent City early tomorrow evening and spread south overnight bringing a short period of heavy rain to northern California. Rain will begin to taper off from north to south through the day on Sunday.
Monday high pressure is forecast to rebuild over northern California.
Looking now to southern California where it should be cool and a bit gusterly today then warm up for the weekend. That should make the surfer dudes and dudettes happy with the forecast for high surf this weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where a trough of low pressure is moving through the Great Basin and the southwest today resulting in breezy conditions around Tucson and a slight chance of rain and snow showers across the White Mountains. High pressure should start to return on Sunday with dry and warmer conditions on tap for next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the central Sea will see brisk southerlies to around 18 knots today then about the same velocity from the NW over the weekend. The southern Sea a bit less.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light northerlies today then around 22-23 NW over the weekend.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: mid teens from the SE today then about the same from the NW over the weekend.
The Baja side of the central Sea: high teens today from the SE then about the same from the NW over the weekend.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. 10-11 knots from the SE or SW today and tomorrow then less than 10 on Sunday from the NE.
La Paz: today and tomorrow light Southerlies and then light northerlies on Sunday.
The Sonoran passage south from Mazatlan to Guaymas: Around Topa la Bomba today light SW. Tomorrow around 14 SW and Sunday around 14 SE. HALF WAY: 14-16 from the SW for the 3-day forecast period. The last half to Guaymas about the same thing 14-16 from the SW.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan around 15 today from the SW. Over the weekend around 18 from the south. Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: light NW for the 3-day forecast period, and south of the cape light SW for the next 3 days.
