Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that it has been mostly clear during the night. The clear skies last night gave us a good look at the full moon rising.
This morning the Baja peninsula and the Sea will start to see some cloudiness that will be coming from the west. They will be a mix of whispys and fluffys and will probably be with us for the better part of the day.
Looking now over to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera from around Puerto Vallarta south to Cabo Corrienties they too will be seeing mostly whispys today. Otherwise the coast is clear to Central America this morning.
In the Gulf of Tehuantepec a fast moving cold front moving through the western Gulf of Mexico will tighten the gradient over the Tehuantepec isthmus this morning and by this afternoon the winds should be in the 20-25 knot ranges and could reach minimal GALE force winds during the night. This brief wind event should end on late Sunday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the STORM door is open for the Great Northwest and they have been receiving copious amounts of rain and heavy snow in the Cascades. A second STORM arriving today will bring more rain and snow.
In this image I can see a 972 low and the associated cold front has moved out of the Gulf of Alaska and is now skirting the British Columbia coast this morning. This system will be adding more moisture to the atmospheric river that has been bringing rain the Great Northwest for the past several days.
Many locations in Oregon and Washington have issues flood advisories and warnings due to melting snow and the heavy rains.
In northern California they are welcoming the much needed rain. Most of the rain has been north of the Bay Area. Rain will turn to snow in the Sierras tomorrow in the higher elevations. Only a few inches are forecast.
In southern California high pressure off the west coast will weaken over the weekend resulting in a cooling trend for the southland. It should warm back up early next week as the high rebuilds off the coast.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will be dry and warm with near record temperatures forecast for the weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like very pleasant winds are in our forecast for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid teens today from the ESE, then light NE for the next two days.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: light SW for the weekend and low teens on Monday from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea including Puerto Escondido: low to mid teens from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light southerlies over the weekend and on Monday light NE.
La Paz: light NE today and then light NW for Sunday and Monday.
East Cape: light NE today, light SE tomorrow and around 14 on Monday from the NW.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan mid teens from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
Mexican Riviera, Mazatlan today and tomorrow light SW and Monday light NW.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: light NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of the cape mostly light SW breezes.
