Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has had another 24 hours of cloudless skies.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico where they too are showing no clouds all along the coast to Central America this morning.
This is the Tehuantepecker season with these cold fronts moving through the western Gulf of Mexico giving cause to a strong gradient across the Tehuantepec isthmus.
That’s what we have this morning with winds not quite up to GALE advisory levels, but around 30 knots with the possibility of making advisory levels around sunrise then diminishing to the 20-25 knot ranges by this afternoon. GALE force winds will crank back up this evening overnight into tomorrow then drop back down to the 20-25 knot ranges tomorrow night. Only light to moderate flow in the Gulf is anticipated through mid week. The next wind event is on tap for late next week.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where Seattle will see rain today and Portland will have snow boarders on their streets all day.
In northern California it is raining and heavy at times. Concerns are now about flooding in many locations. Two to four inched of rain are forecast for today and tomorrow. The snow level is at Lake Tahoe this morning and Squaw Valley is expected to see two inches of new snow an hour today.
The rain will end on Monday. Dry and warmer weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday as a high build off the California coast.
Another system with a moisture tap into the subtropics will move into northern California and Oregon Tuesday night and Wednesday. The ridge off the coast may steer the STORM to the north of the bay area and the upper Sacramento valley will see the majority of the rain in northern California. No problem there Lake Shasta need the water.
Looking now to southern California where the LA basin could see some showers today from system to the north, but San Diego will see it’s warming trend continue under dry conditions. At the system to the north passes they could see some gusterly winds though.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will be dry and mild for this weekend for the lower deserts and the Tucson area. A weak system will pass through northern Arizona today through Tuesday bringing a few clouds, and a chance of some mountain snow to the higher elevations. This will be followed by a dry and warmer than normal weather pattern for the remainder of the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence in general the northern Sea will continue to see moderate NW winds. The central Sea will see 20+ knot winds for the next 3 days and the southern Sea a bit less than 20 for the 3-day forecast period.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: moderate NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 24 knots NW for the next 3 days.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 22-24 NW for the next 3 days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light to moderate NE for the 3-day forecast period.
La Paz: 19-21 from the NW today and tomorrow then around 16 from the NW on Monday.
The East Cape: 19-23 from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan also 19-23 from the NW for the next 3 days.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today: 16 NW, tomorrow 11 NW and then on Monday 9 knots from the SE.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties : Mostly light NW for the 3-day forecast period.
South of Cabo Corrienties: mostly light SW winds for the next 3 days.
