Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez is pretty much cloud free this morning. There are a few morning whispys here and there but that’s it.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see a very thin moisture plume passing over Puerto Vallarta this morning. It is a long stringy plume and it looks like from time to time today the sun could be dimmed by the passing whispys.
Strong high pressure behind a cold front in the Gulf of Mexico will be keeping the winds funneling through the Chivela pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec just below the GALE advisory levels, say around 30 knots today. These winds will continue through tomorrow morning. Another wind event is progged for late Saturday night through early Sunday morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in Seattle the frigid cold weather is expect to last into the weekend. A weak system is progged to move into the region on Sunday bringing Sea level snow.
In northern California it is umbrella weather today. A Pacific STORM will be bringing rainy weather to Southern Oregon, California and Arizona today. Several inches of new snow are forecast for the Lake Tahoe area.
Rain heavy at times today as the system moves through. It should exit to the east by late this evening. Friday should see a short break before another stronger system is progged to move in from the Pacific. This system is forecast to tap into a moisture plume, an atmospheric river stretching from just west of Hawaii to the California coast. The Sacramento valley could be seeing as much as 4 inches of rain this weekend. This is a warm tropical plume so not much snow accumulation is expected.
In southern California they will be seeing isolated showers today through tomorrow along with snow down to around 5500 feet. The showers should taper off tomorrow afternoon and warm and dry are forecast for the southern California weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where a quick moving system cleared the area during the night taking all the clouds with it. This image is showing another system to the west that is on its way that will result in a better chance for valley rain and mountain snow this evening and tomorrow before the forecasted dry and warm weekend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the Sea of Cortez will be seeing two more days of these very moderate NW and NE winds. This weekend looks like it will be a bit windy.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid teens from the SE today. Less than 10 tomorrow and mid teens from the NW on Saturday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: all from the NW. Today 12, tomorrow 17 and Saturday 22.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 12 NE, tomorrow 16 NW and Saturday 21 NW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light NE today, mid teens tomorrow and Saturday from the NE.
La Paz: light NE today then 19-21 for Friday and Saturday from the NW.
East Cape: 12-16 from the NW for the next three days.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan all from the NW. today around 17 then 21 for the next two days.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta: light NW today and tomorrow then 13-14 from the NW on Saturday.
Cabo Corrienties: light southerlies today, light NW tomorrow, and low teens from the NW of Saturday.
South of the cape: mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
