Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that another large tropical moisture plume has moved up from the ITCZ/Monsoon trough and the main plume is now about 800 miles off the west cape. Some of the spurs are already starting to pass over the cape area. I can see considerable shower activity within the plume. This plume is relatively a long ways away, and normally this winter most of this moisture has dried up by the time it reaches land, but with the heavy moisture content in this plume we could see some sprinkles. I’d guess that tonight we should start to see this plume start to provide some cloudiness to the central Sea south. We’ll see?
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where there is not a cloud along the coast to well into Central America this morning.
Looking at the Tehuantepec this morning where for the last two week they have had strong winds in the GALE and STORM force ranges almost every day. This morning the northerly winds are in the 20-30 knot ranges and will decrease to 20 knots or less by this evening. No Tehuantepeckers are in the forecast for the next 72 hours.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where Seattle may see some rain Wednesday through Saturday, but the rest of the west coast will continue to be unseasonably warm and dry due to the high pressure ridge parked off the west coast.
Confidence is gradually growing that a Pacific weather system may finally break through the ridge and bring some much-needed rain to northern California probably late Thursday and midday Friday. The models are showing that this will NOT be a gully-washer, but more likely some light high elevation snow and light rain in the valleys .
Southern California continues to be warm and dry and not expected to see any rain or mountain snow from the system that will move though northern California later this week.
Looking now over to the southwest where dry conditions and above average daytime temperatures will prevail through Thursday. There is a slight chance of some mountain snow showers Friday and Saturday for a cold low that will drop down from the north. It there is any rain it will most likely be right along the Fence.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the Sea will be seeing moderate NW winds today and then tomorrow light NW winds.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light NE today, tomorrow moderate NE and Friday moderate NW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 20 NW today, light tomorrow and around 19 NW on Tuesday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: mid teens today from the NW. light tomorrow and mid teens again on Tuesday from the NW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Mid teens from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
La Paz: 18 NW today, 23 tomorrow NE, and on Tuesday 17 from the NW.
East Cape: 19-25 for the 3-day forecast period.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan strong winds today around 20, 29 tomorrow from the NW and around 20 again on Tuesday.
Mexican Riviera, Mazatlan today, 16NW, tomorrow 19 NW and 15 on Tuesday from the SE.
Puerto Vallarta to Cabo Corrienties: light NW winds today and tomorrow and around 15 on Tuesday from the NE.
South of Cabo Corrienties: light WSW for the 3-day forecast period.
