Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the moisture plume moving off the ITCZ/Monsoon trough has a lot of shower activity within the plume as it moves north off the zone. By the time it reached the Baja latitudes most (but not all) of the moisture is gone and what the Sea of Cortez will continue to see are mostly high whispys as the west/east flow in the basin move the plume over the peninsula and Sea today.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico and the Mexican Riviera where down in these latitudes I can see numerous thunderbumpers working within the plume. None look like that want to come ashore and it looks like perhaps a few whispys will pass over the southern crossing and the Mazatlan area today.
The rest of the west coast of Mexico should be pretty much cloud free today.
Looking south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec there is one Tehuantepecker winding down and another one getting ready to crank up.
The current GALE force winds are expected to diminish to just below GALE force later this morning then tomorrow afternoon another wind event is expect to rapidly build to STORM force by tomorrow evening then drop back down to GALE force for the next 24 hours.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where the Great Northwest could get a little rain on Wednesday but otherwise dry inland and foggy along the coast.
Northern California is currently dry with low humidity and the last thing it needs is a strong wind event, and that looks like what will happen about mid week. This will significantly increase the fire danger in the north state.
In southern California the Santa Ana wind event continues with high pressure in the Nevada plateau and a bar reading of around 1018 in the southland. It continues to be unseasonably warm in southern California.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will remain dry with cool mornings and above average temperatures in the afternoon that are expected to last throughout the week. They could see some high cloudiness mid week as a weak system passing across Sonora.
That’s what is gong on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the entire Sea will be seeing what I’ll call brisk NW winds in the 18-20 knot ranges.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period. NW today and tomorrow and most likely NE on Wednesday.
The northern Sea: 17 today, 20 tomorrow and around 13 on Wednesday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 20-23 for the next 3 days from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 18 today, 20 tomorrow and 19 on Wednesday, all from the NW.
Puerto Escondido: NE for the 3-day forecast period. 14 today, 19 tomorrow and 16 on Wednesday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light NE for the 3-day forecast period.
La Paz: 14 today. 18 tomorrow and 10 on Wednesday from the NE.
The East Cape: 17 today, 21 tomorrow and 13 from the NE on Wednesday.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: 18-20 from the NW for the entire passage for the next 3 days.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan 15 today from the NW, 18 tomorrow NW, then 13 from the west on Wednesday.
The Puerto Vallarta area to Cabo Corrienties: 11-15 for the 3-day forecast period from the NW.
South of Cabo Corrienties: mostly light SW winds for the next 3 days.
