Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that off the west coast of Baja and the west coast of Mexico there is a broad area of mostly light showers. Clouds from this area are drifting with the west/east flow in the basin toward Baja and the west coast of Mexico.
It looks like later this morning the southern Baja peninsula will start to see some high whispys pass over with little effect on any solar generation.
To the south the main body is further away so perhaps later this afternoon the Puerto Vallarta area could start to see some high cloudiness.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec the gradient across southern Mexico continues to support strong winds funneling through the Chivela pass bringing 30-40 knot winds in the Gulf. These GALE conditions are expected to last through Monday morning.
Well, that’s what is gong on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America the remains of weakening front could bring a little rain to the coast of NW Washington today and tonight. Otherwise the Great Northwest is progged to remain dry for most of next week.
In California no one is talking rain. The talk is about drought and pending fire danger. Santa Ana winds fanned a wild fire in southern California that caused the evacuation of several thousand homes. It is mostly contained by now with no loss of any homes. Red flag warnings, signifying extreme fire danger continue to stay in effect the LA basin.
The Santa Ana winds are weakening this morning but weak offshore flow and very dry air will continue over southern California through next week with cool night and warm days.
Looking now over to the southwest where strong high pressure will remain over the western conus at least through the middle of next week. This will lead to much above normal temperatures with the possibility of some slight cooling at the end of next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like the winds in the Sea of Cortez will be pleasant this weekend and pick up a bit on Monday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period. The predominate winds will be from the NW.
The northern Sea: 14-17 for the 3-day forecast period.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 19 today, 15 tomorrow and around 21 on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 17 today, 15 tomorrow and 19 on Monday.
Puerto Escondido: 13-15 from the NE for the next 3 days.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. 10-12 from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
La Paz: 12-15 from mostly the NW for the next three days.
East Cape: 15-17 from the NW for the next 3 days.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan 15-18 for the first half for the next 3 days and very moderate winds for the second half for the 3-day forecast period.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan 15 today NW, 9 tomorrow NW and 15 on Monday from the NW.
The Puerto Vallarta area: light NW for the next 3 days.
Cabo Corrienties: light SW today then light NW for the next 2.
South of the cape mostly light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
