Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that moisture plume that traveled down the Sea of Cortez yesterday finally passed over the cape region yesterday afternoon. This morning there are a few lingering, mostly whispys in the region but the rest of the Sea looks to be cloud free.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see that a ragged, scattered band of clouds in moving on shore from around Puerto Vallarta south to Manzanillo this morning. I would expect that they will see periods of cloudiness along with patches of sun in that region today.
Further south in the Gulf of Tehuantepec gap winds across the Gulf have diminished to 15 or less in the past 12 hours, however will crank back up to the 20-30 knot ranges this evening and tonight and should last until late tomorrow.
Another cold front is moving into the Gulf of Mexico on Monday that will induce another GALE event that will crank up to STORM force winds of around 50 knots Wednesday night lasting until late Thursday.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where I can see a big honk’n 975 low posed off the Washington coast this morning.
It will bring more rain and snow to the Great Northwest today and rain to as far south as San Francisco later today. It is currently raining in Crescent city. The upper Sacramento valley is also expected to see some rain today and end this evening as the front passed into the Great Basin this evening.
In southern California that system moving through the north today will bring cooler weather and breezy winds to the southland today. High pressure will fill in the wake of the departing low and start to warm things back up early next week.
Looking over to the southwest where dry weather is expected across the region for the next week as high pressure settles over the area. That Pacific storm will just brush northern Arizona bringing a few high clouds to the region. This image is showing some high cloudiness over SW Arizona this morning. Temperatures should remain steady throughout the weekend before climbing into the mid and upper 70s by late next week.
That’s what is happening to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today will have winds much like yesterday. A low moving through the Great Basin tomorrow will give cause to one day of mostly light winds in the Sea. Next week, in general, the winds will be in the 20+ knot ranges.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: All NW. Light today, around 20 tomorrow and 27 on Monday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 21 from the NW today. Very light SE tomorrow and around 30 on Monday from the NW.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 20 today from the NW, 15 tomorrow NE and 30+ on Monday from the NW.
Puerto Escondido: 18 today from the NE. Around 12 tomorrow from the SE and around 28 on Monday from the NW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. Mid teens today from the NW, light SE or possibly NE tomorrow, and around 25 on Monday from the NW.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan for the first half around 19 today from the SW, light NE tomorrow and then around 24 on Monday from the SE. The second half mostly moderate NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan mid teens for the next 3 days. Today NW, tomorrow SE, and Monday NW.
The Puerto Vallarta region: very light NE today and tomorrow and around 13 on Monday from the north.
Cabo Corrienties: mid teens from the NE for the 3-day forecast period.
South of the cape mostly light SW winds for the next 3 days.
