Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that band of clouds that moved into the northern Sea yesterday morning has been very slow in passing. Instead of passing to the east it has slowly moved down the Sea of Cortez for the past 24 hours and this morning the extremes of the plume are Puerto Escondido to the north and the cape in the south. It continues to slowly move south down the Sea. To the north of Puerto Escondido the skies are clear.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera there is not a cloud along the coast all the way to South America.
In the Gulf to Tehuantepec this morning a fairly weak high in the Gulf of Mexico is forcing fresh northerly winds through the Chivela pass and across the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning. The 20-25 knot winds are forecast to diminish to less than 20 by this evening and remain in those ranges through this evening then briefly pop up to 20-30 tomorrow night and then slowly diminish through Sunday night. The models are showing another wind event is possible next Monday night.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where in the Great Northwest flood advisories have been posted for western Washington as a series of storms continue to move through the region. More heavy rain and snow are forecast for tomorrow.
In northern California a system will drop down from the north bringing rain to only as far as the California/Oregon border tomorrow . The system will rapidly move inland and high pressure will rapidly move inland and high pressure will begin to build on Sunday with mostly sunny skies and seasonably mild conditions for Sunday afternoon. The northern state is progged to remain dry for next week.
In southern California cloudiness in the southland will clear today and high pressure will bring warmer and mostly sunny weather today. Tomorrow a fast moving system moving through to the north will bring another round of gusterly winds tomorrow night. Well above normal temperatures are expected next week as high pressure rebuilds in the Great Basin. The LA basin can expect to see Santa Ana wind conditions through tomorrow.
Looking now over to the southwest where chances of any rain have been dropped from the forecasts. Dry weather is expected across the region for the next week and high pressure settles into the area. A series of fast moving systems will brush northern Arizona at times through next week bringing only a few high clouds and afternoon breezes. Temperatures will remain steady through the weekend before climbing into the mid to upper 70s by late next week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today and tomorrow will see ballpark 20 knot winds in the central Sea and a tad less in the northern and southern Sea.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: NW winds over the 3-day forecast period with around 18 today, 14 tomorrow and back to around 18 on Sunday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: All NW. 18-23 today and tomorrow and very light winds on Sunday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: around 21 today and tomorrow from the NW then around 13 on Sunday from the NE.
Puerto Escondido: 18-19 today and tomorrow from the NE then around 12 on Sunday from the SE.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. 17 today, 14 tomorrow and around 8 on Sunday from the NE.
La Paz: around 18 today and tomorrow then very light on Sunday all from the NE.
The East Cape: 16-18 today and tomorrow from the NW then around 13 on Sunday from the NW.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan for the first half around 19 today and tomorrow and 13 on Sunday all from the NW. The second half light to moderate NW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan light SE today, around 13-14 from the NW over the weekend.
The Puerto Vallarta area: light NE for the 3-day forecast period.
Cabo Corrienties: light NW today then lighter NE over the weekend.
South of the cape: mostly light SE or SW for the next 3 days.
