Voice to Text

Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that high pressure off the west coast of the Baja peninsula has been keeping the Sea of Cortez clear of any clouds for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see a weak moisture plume bearing mostly whispys passed over the Manzanillo region last night and is now inland. There are still some clouds off shore that will drift toward the coast but it looks like in general the entire Mexican Riviera will be enjoying sunshine today.
Looking further south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where a STORM force wind event is taking place in the Gulf this morning. Winds to 55 knots are being reported. Seas have built to around 24 feet. The winds are forecast to subside to GALE force by this afternoon and to below GALE force by sometime tomorrow. This Tehuantepecker will generate 8-12 foot swells well downstream from the Gulf through Thursday out to around 114W.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where this image is showing storms moving down from the Aleutians and in from the Pacific into the Great Northwest. High pressure off the west coast is keeping these storms to the north of California and into the Great Northwest. It is currently raining in both Portland and Seattle this morning.
One of these systems will be what they call a back-door slider and slide down from the NW and approach Nevada (by the backdoor) by tomorrow afternoon. Only Crescent City on the California border is forecast to see any rain from this system in California. Another trof will approach the NW on Saturday and could extend as far south as the Bay Area but even if any rain does reach that far it will be very light.
So the forecast for northern California remains bleak for any rain in the upcoming week.
In southern California the pressure gradient between the Nevada plateau and southern California will allow the Santa Ana wind-event to continue especially in the LA Basin and to a lesser extent in the San Diego region. A cooling trend is expected through Thursday as those systems move through to the north. Warmer weather will likely return by the end of the week as high pressure rebuilds over the Great Basin.
Looking now over to the southwest where I can see some high cirrus over SW Arizona this morning and a large band of heavier clouds moving in from the NW. Later in the week, Thursday and Friday, that backdoor slider will move through the Great Basin and into Arizona bringing a chance of some showers across most of central and eastern Arizona along with cooler temperatures. It should warm back up by the weekend as high pressure is progged to rebuild over the Great Basin.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence right now it looks like today will be the last day of these strong winds in the central Sea until this weekend.
So here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: mid teens from the NW today, mid teens from the SE tomorrow and light winds from the SW on Thursday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: around 20 today from the NW then light NW for the next two days.
The Baja side of the central Sea: a bit less than 20 today from the NW. Then 12-15 from the NW for the next two days.
Puerto Escondido: moderate northerlies today around 15 from the north. Tomorrow light SE and Thursday light SW.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Light NE today and tomorrow then around 13 from the west on Thursday.
La Paz: around 14 today from the SW, 10 tomorrow SW and then on Thursday around 15 from the NW.
The East Cape: 17 today NW, 14 tomorrow NW and less than 10 on Thursday from the NW.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan for the first half: around 15 from the NW for today and tomorrow then around 10 from the SW on Thursday. The second half mostly light NW for the 3-day forecast period.
Mexican Riviera: mid teens from the NW today and tomorrow light SW on Thursday. The Puerto Vallarta area: light NW for the next 3 days. Cabo Corrienties: light SE today and light NW for the next two. South of Cabo Corrienties: light SE today and then light NW for the next two days.
