Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that a band of clouds came from the north yesterday afternoon bringing high cloudiness to the Sea. It has passed over most of the Sea by this morning south to around the San Lorenzo channel. It looks like it will completely pass over the peninsula by mid morning, with the southern crossing seeing just some high cloudiness.
Looking to the south I can see the area of disturbed weather to the west of Manzanillo continues to send ragged bands of wet clouds toward the west coast of Mexico, the heaviest around Manzanillo and Zihuatanejo this early this morning. It looks like the region will be clearing though this morning.
Looking further south to the Gulf of Tehuantepec where cool dense air behind a cold front in the Gulf of Mexico is funneling into the Gulf through the Chivela pass this morning. These winds are forecast to diminish by later this morning. The next Tehuantepecker is due in on Tuesday morning and should be short lived and last through Wednesday night.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see that several wet systems will move through the Great Northwest this week with a stronger system progged to arrive later in the week.
In northern California it looks like the entire Sacramento valley is blanketed with fog this morning . Tulle fog is also socking in the California Delta.
The forecast is for clear skies and cool nights and gusterly afternoons in the north state all week. The medium range models indicate that the ridge over California will retrograde near the end of next week which will allow a system the Gulf of Alaska to drop southeast and possibly generate some rain in the north state by next weekend.
In southern California with high pressure building over the Great Basin and relatively low pressure in southern California this sets up the typical Santa Ana Wind Event through today and diminishing late this evening. This and low humidity continue to amplify the fire danger in southern California.
The southland is forecast to continue to enjoy unseasonably warm and dry weather through next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where as I mentioned a weak low is slowly moving out our Arizona today with clearing skies. In the wake there will be gusterly winds mostly in SW Arizona and SE California. Needles has a high wind advisory posted for today. The lower Colorado River Valley will also be seeing strong winds today.
Monday through the end of the week they should see clear skies, light winds and unseasonable warm afternoons. Temperatures in the lower deserts will be in the mid 70s.
That’s what is going in to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it does not look like the Sea of Cortez will enjoy a day like yesterday for the next week. Long range models are showing winds in the low to mid 20 in the forecast for the rest of the year into mid next week.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 28 NW today, 23 tomorrow NW, and around 16 on Tuesday for the NW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 21-25 from the NW for the 3-day forecast period.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 24 today NW, 29 tomorrow NW and around 21 on Tuesday from the NW.
Puerto Escondido: 13 today NE, 17 tomorrow NE and on Tuesday around 14 from the NW>
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands. Very light winds today from the NW, around 20 tomorrow from the NE and 16 on Tuesday from the NE.
La Paz: Very light NE today, around 24 tomorrow from the NW and around 20 from the NW on Tuesday.
East Cape: light NE today, around 21 tomorrow from the NW and Tuesday 20 from the NW.
The Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today light SE, tomorrow mid teens from the NW and Tuesday mid teens from the NE.
The Puerto Vallarta area: light southerlies today, light NW tomorrow and light NE on Tuesday.
Cabo Corrienties: low teens today from the SE, less than 10 tomorrow from the SW and then on Tuesday even light NE.
South of Cabo Corrienties mostly light WNW for the 3-day forecast period.
