Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the cold front that moved through the Baja peninsula yesterday produced some cool temperatures, light showers and some very gusterly conditions, the strongest in the morning hours. During the night the Sea has cleared and across the board the morning’s lows are 10-12 degrees cooler than yesterday morning. Here in the cove it was 12 degrees cooler yesterday afternoon than the day before.
With winter officially beginning at 8:11 this morning and the sunrise temperature in my palapa the coldest since Valentines Day this year. I though it would be a prudent to put the wool winter liner in my speedO, bring out the fuzzy wooly Ugg Boots and don my favorite hoodie to do the weather in this morning.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico this morning I can see a ragged moisture plume passing over the Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrienties area this morning. It looks like the heaviest clouds have passed during the night with only scattered clouds left to the west in the plume.
Looking now into the Gulf of Tehuantepec where this weekend there will be a brief crossing window with winds in the very moderate ranges. Even with these moderate winds experienced gulf-crossers will tell you keep one foot on the shore; take the long route. Monday the next Tehuantepecker is due bringing winds to 45 knots by Monday evening and seas to 19 feet.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where building high pressure off the west coast will keep the storm track to the north of California over the weekend and into next week.
The Great Northwest will be seeing periods of rain and sun this weekend.
Northern California will be warming and dry over the weekend and through christmas.
Southern California will be dry and daytime highs will be slightly above normal.
Looking now over to the southwest where the exiting low result in clearing skies from west to east today. Temperatures will remain cool this weekend but a warming trend can be anticipated this coming week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like the weekend will be seeing pleasant weather, albeit a bit colder with light to moderate winds. Monday looks like day one of a two-day blow.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light southerlies today, high teens tomorrow from the NW then around 27 from the NW on Monday.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: moderate SE today, around 23 tomorrow from the NW and then around 26 from the NW on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: ESE today a bit less than 20. Around 25 tomorrow from the NW and 29 from the NW on Monday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands. NE or NW for the 3-day forecast period. Today around 10 knots. Tomorrow and Monday 19-25.
The East Cape: moderate NE today. 21-23 from the NW for the next two days.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan: mid teens today from the NW then from Guaymas to about half way 20 knot NW winds for the next 2 days. For the rest of the passage light to moderate NW winds.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan south to Cabo Corrienties light to moderate NW winds. South of the cape light SW winds for the 3-day forecast period.
And for those of you looking for something to celebrate this Saturday night. It is December 21st and I plan on sipping some grog with friends celebrating the first anniversary of the end the world according to the Mayan calendar.
